I was so excited when I read the news! I can't wait. I thought this show was a lost cause too.

This is great news! I'd like to see a release starting with season 1, of course (and including a re-release of season 5 with unedited broadcast elements of the show) but maybe someday. For now I can't wait until this is released!

“MAKE ROOM FOR DADDY” – SEASON 6
DEBUTS IN A DELUXE FIVE DISC BOX SET FROM S’MORE ENTERTAINMENT ON JANUARY 22 S’more Entertainment announces the upcoming January 22 release of “Make Room For Daddy”, the complete sixth season, a deluxe 5 DVD collection of all 32 episodes. One of the longest running comedies of the 50’s, “Make Room For Daddy” ran from September, 1953 until September, 1964. The series was nominated for 14 Emmy® Awards, winning four, including “Best Situation Comedy and “Best Actor” for Danny. The series was a reflection of Danny Thomas’ own life as an entertainer and the problems created by the frequent absences from his children. Even the title came from a phrase used in the real-life Thomas household: whenever Danny returned from a tour, his 2 daughters (Marlo and Terre) had to shift bedrooms to “Make Room For Daddy”. In the series, Danny plays nightclub entertainer Danny Williams, an occasionally loud and cantankerous, but ultimately warm and soft-hearted master of his domain. Constantly being upstaged by his bratty but loveable kids, played by Rusty Hamer, Angela Cartwright and Sherry Jackson (whose role was taken over by Penny Parker), the ensemble also included beautiful Marjorie Lord as his understanding wife, and legendary character actor Hans Conreid as irascible Uncle Tonoose. “Make Room For Daddy” was unique for many reasons, including how it portrayed the family life of an entertainer dealing with both industry and ordinary family issues. Another reason was its frequent appearances by top celebrities. In this Season 6 boxed-set, William Demarest, Jack Benny, Dinah Shore, Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, Tennessee Ernie Ford, Shirley Jones, and Bob Hope are but a few of the legendary performers lending their talents. In addition, upcoming stars had recurring roles, such as Tony Bennett as Danny’s cousin Steven from Toledo, and Annette Funicello as Italian exchange student Gina Minelli. “Make Room For Daddy” served as a springboard for then little known talents such as Andy Griffith, Joey Bishop and Bill Dana, all of whom wound up with their own Danny Thomas produced television series. Other Thomas produced series include the “Dick Van Dyke Show”, “Gomer Pyle”, “Real McCoys” and “Mod Squad”. While Danny made a huge contribution to the show business industry with all the shows he produced and shared his great love of entertaining with audiences in clubs like The Sands Hotel in Las Vegas and Harrah’s in Lake Tahoe, to name but a few, his greatest passion was the hospital he founded in 1962, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. St. Jude stands proudly in Memphis, TN, known worldwide as the crown jewel of pediatric medicine and a beacon of hope for children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases. DVD DETAILS: “Make Room For Daddy” will be released as a deluxe 5 DVD collection containing all 32 episodes of season six with a January 22, 2008 Street Date and a Pre-Book date of December 11, 2007 . SRP: $39.99 CAT. #: SMO 7037 UPC: 0 89353 70372 1 RUNNING TIME: 13 hours, 20 minutes plus bonus features BONUS DVD FEATURES: * Interview with Marjorie Lord * Interview with Angela Cartwright * Interview with Sid Melton * Blooper reel * Photo Gallery * 10 minute featurette on St. Judes Children’s Hospital * An audio excerpt of Marjorie Lord reading from her memoir “A Dance and A Hug” |

I have been on TV lands website. I don't understand them. They had the special last nite about their opinions of TV icons. Well the list is kind of sorry to begin with but then to add to it they did not have "Danny Thomas" listed as one. He did so much for TV history and for society. In my opinion he should be considered an ICON.
Then then on the site they have a list on the message boards "Other Classic TV shows". Make Room for Daddy is not on the list. So I asked why because they control what shows are on the list. They say the list is made up of shows that have aired on TV land or Nick @ Nite. and other shows may be eligible to be on the list if they think there is sufficient interest in the show to merit it being added. Well...I guess they don't remember that Make Room for Daddy was on the beginning of the list that TV land advertised for the 20th anniversary of Nick @ Nite. Then I mentioned that there must be some interest in the show due to the fact that season 6th is set to be released in January of 2008. I really wish they would get their act together and change their programming. They just show a lot of the same stuff. Most days if you look at the schedule of TV land they show an episode of a show in the morning then show the same episode in the afternoon or late evening. There are just too many classic shows that could be shown. But I guess this is just my opinion. |

Unfortunately though; they're not releasing the first 4 seasons. I read that Danny didn't want them to be seen ever again; and now his family is keeping them from being released. |
