I'm also interested in knowing more about Joe Flynn. Does anyone know if there are any books or articles written on him?

I read once, but don't recall where, that he had a heart attack while swimming.

from what I can remember hearing of it, back when it happened, it was accidental.

...Joe Flynn's untimely death in 1974. One of his final appearances had been as a "celebrity masquerader" on Monty Hall's syndicated revived/revised version of "MASQUERADE PARTY" that fall, with Richard Dawson as host. There was a disclaimer flashed on screen as Flynn came on, saying to the effect that this was taped before his death. I know Flynn had more roles ahead of him...they had to work around his unfinished role in a Disney Kurt Russell comedy feature released the following year {I forgot the title!}.

I wonder what Joe Flynn meant by his statement, " I have info that would rock Hollywood should it get out". He said it on Merv Griffin show.

I remember seeing him on The Merv Griffin Show and heard him make odd comments about the inner workings of the hollywood industry. At one point he even made a reference once about putting what he knew into a tell all book.
I can buy a person having a heart attack while swimming; but there's not a chance in the world I would buy anyone with a cast on their leg intentionally going into a pool under any circumstances. I've know a lot of folks who've had broken limbs and everyone was told by their doctor how important it was to keep their cast absolutely dry. |

I don't think his drowning was an accident either. No one swims with a broken leg. There's a lot of politics in Hollywood. He spoke openly on shows like Merv and others about knowing some things that would really "rock" the town. He was President of the Screen Actors Guild and was instrumental in getting residuals for actors on their shows and movies. Sometimes, you make enemies. I think somebody didn't want Joe saying something openly. It was something he knew about the inner workings of this town, probably from his screen actor President days. It's a damn shame, but I think someone did him in. He was only age 49. We can see in McHale that he was only age 37 - 41, and with all the physical comedy he went through, he was quite fit. I don't see how he could have an early heart attack.
Anyone know if he was married and had kids ? I know he had family in Youngstown, OH, that he went back and visited often. Word online is that "family" found him in the pool. Wondering who that was. He lived in Beverly Hills, and in a big house, no doubt. Maybe he had family with him ? |
