The artwork says "The Complete First Season" ,yet it's skipping the pilot and all of the Meg Foster episdes. The first episode in this "First Season" of this set is the season 2 opener, episode 7. I know that most people know Sharon Gless as Cagney but to cut out Meg Foster is an insult.
How can they call this "The Complete First Season" when it's not? Baywatch did the same thing. Isn't that lying? http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=6920 |

What Baywatch did was a little different, IMO. They released the first Syndicated season and when the show is Syndicated the NBC season doesn't air. Worldwide the NBC season was released first and the few episodes I've watched it truly is a completely different (much better) show.
But for Cagney and Lacey, notice how they keep making a big deal about how it's the "true beginning." I definitely will not be buying it! I'm still eyeing the unofficial set. The saddest part is that TVSHOWSONDVD had a poll (done with the studio) which asked how the fans wanted it released. The vast majority said a boxset with the pilot, first season and first Sharon Gless season. This would only be 30 episodes which is about how many are on each season of Dallas. Not difficult to package, just lazy! |

To be fair, they are packaging it as "The Complete First Season starring Sharon Gless and Tyne Daly". And it is the first season starring those two. I have some of the Meg Foster episodes, and you know what? They're terrible. Foster's Cagney is humorless, and she has no chemistry with Daly.
Sure, I'd like to see those early episodes, plus the pilot with Loretta Swit, on this DVD set, because I'm a completist. But the casual buyer isn't going to be interested in the Foster shows. |

I didn't care for Meg Foster as the Cagney character but if it was on the DVD,
I would just skip over those episodes. So either way I would still buy it since I really liked the show. |
