...but there WAS a time, in the '90s, when Columbia Pictures Television bundled together a package of their "one season" wonders {"LOVE ON A ROOFTOP", "OCCASIONAL WIFE", "MR. MERLIN", etc.} and distributed them to local stations for a brief period. I believe at least one episode of "ROOFTOP" also appeared on their "SCREEN GEMS NETWORK" syndicated package (1999-2001) as well.

Writer Bernard Slade confirmed it, he was very fond of both this show and it's stars and felt it never really was given a fair slot to support it.

I still remember the majority of episodes and still wonder how GOOD they were! The problem, of course, was the scheduling: how'd YOU like to be on opposite "PETTICOAT JUNCTION", or "STAR TREK"...or "NBC TUESDAY NIGHT AT THE MOVIES" or "THE CBS THURSDAY NIGHT MOVIES"? ABC just wasn't patient enough to wait for another season for that show to become a "success".

Yeah, I had wondered why it was that I hardly ever watched the show, when I'd liked it. It was opposite those other shows!
These days, with VCRs, and multiple TVs in the house, I STILL had that problem, when I wanted to see two or more in the same time slot. I taped all of them, on my 3 VCRs. Of course, now that I'm renting a room in somebody else's house, and only have one crummy TV from 1986, I'm up s*** creek.

The show was REBROADCAST by CBS (as a summer replacement) several years after the ABC run. I don't think it was ever syndicated in the US.
By the way, for the youngsters out there who don't recall cigarette
commercials, the show's main sponsor was SALEM CIGARETTES ("you can take
Salem out of the country, but you can't take the country out of Salem").

----"LOVE ON A ROOFTOP" was repeated by ABC [not CBS] in the summer of 1971. Apparently, they needed a "cheap" summer replacement show on Wednesday nights {9pm(et)} , and decided to repeat several episodes that year. Time had caught up with the series, and ratings were somewhat better than the first time it had been shown. And yes, R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. {Salem} was the original primary sponsor in 1966-'67. And no, it WAS syndicated as part of a Screen Gems/Columbia "package" of their one-season series during the late '80s.

I suppose the chances for this show coming out on DVD is pretty low. But I would sure like to see it again.

Love on a Rooftop was never sold into syndication, and I had not seen it since ABC rebroadcast the episodes in the summer of 1971.

The problem was that package went over like a lead balloon. Did it ever get sold anywhere? I don't think it actually did but I remember when it was being advertised in the trades.

USA Network bought a package from Columbia/Screen Gems in the late '80s which included "The Girl with Something Extra" and "Temperatures Rising", but "Love on a Rooftop" was NOT one of those shows.

Occasional Wife, Girl with Something Extra, Accidental Family, Mrs G. Goes to College and other one season wonders have been rerun. Why Rooftop hasn’t, even in a 5000 channel universe is beyond me. From the episodes I have seen, it’s better than these shows.

It aired between "Bewitched" and "That Girl" and he says it wasn't given a fair shot? "Bewitched" was ABC's #1 Show in 1966-1967 (Batman dropped that season - badly) and "That Girl" did well it's first season.
