Default Did he lisp?

I was just wondering, has anyone else on this board ever notice Freddie lisping from time to time or is it maybe that I am wearing my tapes out? Heaven for bid!

Wink Absolutely!

Joy, you are hearing correctly! Having studied Spanish under some native speakers, I believe it comes from being bilingual. Spanish involves speaking mostly at the front of one's mouth (as opposed to English, which has some sounds--because of its Germanic roots--that are made more at the back). This is probably the reason Freddie (and others for whom Spanish was their first language) lisps a bit when speaking English. I have always thought that Freddie's lisp was particularly unique, though--not just turning "s" into "th", but there is something else involved that I can't quite explain.

Coincidentally, when talking to Laz about what was involved in "becoming" Freddie, one of the first things he mentioned was that lisp! And I must say that as Freddie, he had the voice (including the lisp), the laugh, the mannerisms, everything, just perfect! Now if only he could have found a better wig LOL! (Sorry, Laz, don't mean to embarrass you so publicly--just my two centavos!)

Reading this particular post about Freddies lisp. I just happen to be listening to "To be with you" Freddie is singing back up of course. I don't hear any lisp, just his gorgous voice drifting away!

I LOVE his lisp, very noticeable but very sexy! I love it when he would say something in an effeminate way

---like the Aunt Connie episode where he says to Ed, "No wonder.., look at the way you're dressed!" (when he had 3 jackets on), or the episode with Jose Feliciano, where he says, "Ed, ..oh, Ed, DEAR!"

His voice and the quirky way he talked are almost a sexy as his sweet face!

I'm not exactly sure if it was a lisp that he had but, in the pictures he's smiling in, he looked as if he had horse teeth. Horse teeth meaning they didn't appear to have any gaps and were all perfectly shaped the same and were also somewhat long.

Especially in the photo below which is attached to this post. I love that photo! Can't you tell?

I read somewhere that he had a gap in his front teeth & after he got on CATM, once he got enough money he had them fixed. & That's how he supposedly got such perfect teeth...

So by the time he was photographed for the photo above, he had already gotten them fixed? And weren't they originally long?

I've seen some of the pictures when he was in his late teens and his teeth had somewhat of a unique(I guess) form to them.I'm not sure as to whether he had some extra teeth in which had grown inbetween some of the others or if he just had a simple overbite.

Cool

The way I thought it was is that the drugs ruined his teeth and he may have had a partial made for the front to make them appear perfect....I don't know this for sure but in those days thats what actors did.

He did have a space between his front teeth in the beginning of the show. He definately had work done. No matter what picture you see of him, he will ALWAYS be gorgeous in my eyes.

I don't know about you all, but I liked the way he looked better before he had any work done on his teeth. Some imperfections can be sexy....
