Having failed to learn its lesson, CBS has reportedly ordered an all-star season of its third major reality show, The Amazing Race, its only marquee reality series that has been as-yet-untouched by such a stunt.
Citing “credible confirmation,” TVgasm reports “that the eleventh season of The Amazing Race, which begins shooting next month, will be an ALL STAR edition.” The cast is apparently already in place: “contracts have been signed and racers will return for the eleventh season, which begins shooting next month,” the site reports. The good news, at least for me: Charla and Mirna are returning, according to TVgasm. The bad news: so are Colin and Christie, and probably every other loathsome team. While the all-star seasons of both Survivor and Big Brother were underwhelming and not exactly runaway hits, The Amazing Race is, at least in theory, a different sort of show because teams are essentially racing only against themselves. But depending upon who’s selected and what, if any, changes are made to the race itself, an all-star season could be as flat as CBS’ other two attempts. http://www.realityblurred.com/realitytv/ |

Amazing Race is one show that can never get stale. Wheras with Survivor and Big Brother, it's always the same formula over and over again (which is why All Stars didn't work) but with Amazing Race, they go to different cities, countries, and regions of the world every season. There's something always so exciting, and unlike Survivor and BB, the seasons get better and better as they go on. I think this will be the only All Stars that will really work, and I'm so excited for it! As long as Allison and whatshisface or Romber don't return, I'll be happy.

This is not good news. I'd like to see Charla and Mirna again, but if the rest of the cast is made up of all the most memorable (i.e. obnoxious, deceitful, and/or abusive) pairs from past seasons, I don't think I'm going to want to see that. I think CBS is making a huge mistake with what has so far been one of the few good "reality" shows.

I would be okay with an All Star Season, as long as Rob & Amber don't make a return visit... gosh, they've beaten their fifteen minutes of fame into the ground, haven't they? It would be great to see Charla and Mirna again, but some of the other teams (such as Colin and Christie) are way too obnoxious to have to suffer through another dreadful dose...
