Default Pathologist Says Meds Killed Smith's Son

http://news.aol.com/entertainment/articles/_a/pathologist-says-meds-killed-smiths-son/20060927180009990001?ncid=NWS00010000000001

Pathologist Says Meds Killed Smith's Son

LOS ANGELES (Sept. 27) - Actress and model Anna Nicole Smith's son, Daniel Smith, died of a lethal combination of drugs that caused an irregular heart beat, People Magazine reported on its Web site on Wednesday.

The report quoted pathologist Cyril Wecht, who was hired by Smith to look into her son's September 10 death, as saying Daniel Smith died from a combination of methadone, Zoloft and Lexapro that led to cardiac dysrhythmia.

People Magazine said Wecht got the results of toxicology tests from National Medical Services in Willow Grove, Pennsylvania.

Daniel Smith, 20, died while visiting his mother in a hospital in the Bahamas where she had given birth to a baby girl. His death has been shrouded in mystery since then.

The People magazine report could not be immediately confirmed, and official autopsy and toxicology reports are being withheld until an October 23 inquest.

I knew it had to be something other than natural causes. What a tragedy.

I read that Daniel had been in rehab recently. I guess that would explain the methadone.

The person who prescribed all that should have known better than to have him take them all together.

OMG, I KNEW it (I think I mentioned on the other thread how I thought the meds had something to do with it). I just had a strong feeling about it. You know...another weird occurrance happened with an internet friend of mine--she recently had a young friend (I think she was 28?) pass away due to heart issues and she was just put on new depression meds right before her death.

Someone really has to regulate these drugs that are getting prescribed left and right

Doctors need to read the fine print about the drugs. That's what the PDR is for.

Methadone can be as lethal as heroin. I watched 48 Hours over the weekend. They profiled the case of a couple who went on a cruise. He had a prior addiction to the pain killer Vicodin, and was taking methadone to get off it. That's what methadone is for...to get off other drugs, usually heroin. He put the (orange) liquid methadone in a cough syrup bottle.

His girlfriend, who was supermodel beautiful, and never did drugs, ended up taking some and dying the first night of the cruise. The boyfriend says that she knew he put it in the cough syrup bottle, but her family doesn't believe him. He was interviewed and crying, but I don't believe his story either. I think he killed her by accident...negligence.

The report stated that even a teaspoon of methadone can kill a person, who's never taken it before. It has me thinking that Daniel Smith, who was slightly built, perhaps he misjudged his tolerance level. Add a couple of other anti-depressants to the mix, and the poor guy didn't stand a chance. It's very sad. So young.
