Who here was a kid in the 80's and remembers the two seperate Ghostbuster cartoons that aired? The "Real" Ghostbusters was the better cartoon because it stayed true to the movie. The other was horrible, although, I wouldn't mind seeing it again now. lol

I liked the Filmation Ghostbusters better. That was my show! I loved Jake, Eddie and Tracy. I had all of the Real Ghostbusters toys, etc. as well. The Ghosbusters with Tracy the ape was the original. It was a live-action tv show in the 60s or 70s, and when the movie was made in 1984, they had to ask permission for the right to use the name Ghostbusters. The cartoon show with the ape also began first. That show will be out on dvd on November 7th in Volume 1 (of two volumes- the second to be released in spring of 2007)

You are correct. Filmation first came up with the name "Ghost Busters" (note
it's spelled as two words) way back in 1975, and that live-action Saturday morning comedy starred Larry Storch and Forrest Tucker (of F-TROOP fame). In 1986, in an effort to capitalize on the success of the blockbuster movie starring Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd, Filmation came up with an animated version of their own 1975 show, involving some kids who were related to the characters played by Storch and Tucker (sort of a next generation of ghost busters). It premiered in first-run syndication. THE REAL GHOSTBUSTERS debuted the same month, on the ABC network. To avoid confusion with Filmation's GHOST BUSTERS series, the producers changed the title of their program to make sure that audiences knew the difference. In an ironic bit of casting, Lorenzo Music (best remembered as the voice of Garfield) was Peter Venkman. Ironic because, in the recent movies, Bill Murray replaced Music as Garfield's voice! A then-unknown actor named Arsenio Hall was Winston Zeddmore. (Hmm .. whatever became of him?) |

I never cared for either cartoon, but that Filmation Ghost Busters (two words) was not good.
I would love to get a glimpse of the live action series it is based on. I don't remember that show at all. |

I did watch both cartoons when I was younger. I didn't like Flimation's Ghostbusters because in my opinion it wasn't that funny and a bit boring as well. That's why I prefer the Real Ghostbusters over the "fake" ghostbusters. RGB was well written and had awesome story lines. So that is my favorite.

I watched both shows when I was a kid. Looking back, both were pretty entertaining shows but the The "Real" Ghostbusters had better animation and better storylines. I did get a kick out of G.B. from Filmation's "Ghostbusters" - he was funny.
