New Garfield Voice
I saw a promo on TV last night for the new Garfield movie. What I want to know is: when did Garfield
acquire a British accent?? The voice is all wrong--we're talking about Garfield the cat, not Peabody the dog! (Bill Murray was perfectly cast in the first movie, but I guess he wasn't available for the sequel.) |

That's pretty ridiculous. They should have done everything they could have to keep Bill Murray, even if it meant paying him double. He was the perfect voice for Garfield!!! The first Garfield movie wasn't even very good, so it's likely to be even worse without Bill Murray. I don't think I'll be watching it!!

Why even make a sequel to a movie that bombed at the box office?

That English accent is not Garfield. This is like that "suddenly I have an identical twin" that sitcoms seem to love. In this film, Garfield has an English twin and I guess they somehow get mixed up.
According to imdb, Bill Murray is still Garfield. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0455499/ |

Anyone remember Lorenzo Music, the late actor who did Garfield's voice in the cartoons? He did all these voiceovers, but never allowed himself to be seen (except as the Crash Test Dummy in the safety belt commercials)?

Yes. Lorenzo Music (1937-2001) was born on May 2, 1937 in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Besides Garfield, he was the voice of the unseen character Carlton the doorman on RHODA (and reprised the role in a one-shot cartoon), Tummi Gummi on Disney's GUMMI BEARS, and Peter Venkman in THE REAL GHOSTBUSTERS. Ironically, Bill Murray (the "real" Peter Venkman) replaced Music as Garfield in the movies. Music died on August 4, 2001. |
