I just want to start off by saying that if you are a fan of classic TV sitcoms and classic TV in general, I think it would be worth your while to pick up that multi-dvd collection of the one and only season of the 1967 CBS sitcom "Good Morning World". Being a fan and someone who is constantly trying to find great old "lost" TV nuggets, I can't believe I never even heard of this show until I saw it on the '67 CBS Fall Preview reel about 10 years ago. I didn't even know it was in syndication as recently as 5 or 6 years ago! Shame on me! This is an "ahead of it's time" sitcom that really deserves a second look. I motion that perhaps we could even create a thread in the 1960's Sitcoms section of this board. Any seconds???
Thanks!! |

...and it WAS funny!! (It still was when I saw the repeats on USA Cable in 1984!) Persky & Denoff had a great writing staff and a better-than-average cast (including Billy DeWolfe)...but unfortunately for them, CBS wasn't satisfied with the ratings [how'd YOU like to be on opposite "NBC TUESDAY NIGHT AT THE MOVIES" and "N.Y.P.D"?], despite the fact the show was fully sponsored by Procter & Gamble, who gave up "PETTICOAT JUNCTION" to sponsor "GMW" in the fall of '67. No, CBS declared, tried and true rural-based sitcoms were what people wanted to see after "THE RED SKELTON HOUR", not [I]this[I]. So "GMW" had to make room for..."THE DORIS DAY SHOW"
(the first version) in 1968. *sigh* |

Thanks, my friend. Looks like we are the only two in the world passionate enough about this show to write about it.
