...became to Doris what "Thanks For The Memories" was for Bob Hope [he first introduced it, with Shirley Ross, in his 1938 Paramount picture, "The Big Broadcast of 1938". When his radio show began on NBC that fall, they used
the song as his theme...and it became his "signature" for the rest of his life]. It was nominated for the Academy Award as "Best Song of 1956" (but Hope's song WON!) and was one of her biggest-selling Columbia recordings as well. There was no question as to what HER theme was going to be for the TV show (even though she was reluctant to do the series at all). |
