I was wondering if the one episode of the Burns and Allen Show that was filmed in color is available anywhere. I'd like to see this show in color but I have not had any luck finding it. I don't know of any "official" releases, so do any of the collectors out there have this show? Let me know! Thanks!!!

See the earlier thread entitled '"Burns and Allen" in color???' for a discussion of this episode. It apparently was only broadcast in color once and all reruns since have been in b&w. It will be very hard to find from a collector, because let's face it, who had a vcr in 1954? Someone would have to have the original film. CBS used a clip from it on a special in 2004, so they probably still have it, but unless they decide to broadcast the whole ep (extremely unlikely) I doubt we're ever gonna see it. Maybe someone knows an insider at CBS?

the episode that aired on September 4, 1954, that opened the series' fifth season (third on film), the only one of the series that was presented in "compatible color" on CBS, who occasionally presented "special" color episodes of some of its series at the time ["WHAT'S MY LINE?" was telecast in color over a week later- no color kinescopes of that live broadcast exist, and the black & white kinnie is presumed lost forever]. The plot concerned George inviting some influential L.A. TV critics over to the house {"Hellman" and "Guild", portayed by actors} to see the first show of the new season...at the same time Gracie gets a brilliant idea to invite perfect strangers over (via playing cards) to see the same show and have a "television party"! Of course, George will have none of this, but after a bit of confusion (and mad dashes between the Burns and Morton homes), George suggests that he and the critics go over to the "little bar around the corner" to watch the show...
FIRST CRITIC: You know, George, I don't know what kind of show you're gonna have tonight, but it'll never top this situation! You oughta put it on television! SECOND CRITIC: (taking George aside) Don't do it, George. Nobody'll ever believe it! [George casts a wary glance at the camera as they depart...] I don't know if the original color film print of this episode DOES exist. According to a book on the Burns & Allen TV show, it was presumed "lost". Who knows? |

...that episode was telecast on OCTOBER 4, 1954! The "WHAT'S MY LINE" telecast in color had been shown a few weeks BEFORE.....
