Interesting article. Thanks for posting that. Lamont Sanford is now a preacher. He preached at a tent revival in our area a few yrs back that my hubbys cousins church had. We didn't egt to go cuz I think my friend Arlo the singer was doing a show here in VA & we had to go to that & that was the nite Lamont was preaching. I was sure sorry to have missed him. Hubbys cousin said he was great & re-baptized her & her hubby there...

I still would like to know what was it about Flip Wilson's and Sammy Davis Jr. Image that Demond had a problem with. It doesn't state that in the article

The article was good Thanks Dani. Well I loved Flip Wilson and Sammy Davis Jr. They paved the way and they paid their dues. I wish it would've been different for them back then. Those 2 men had so much talent.
As for Demond..... Maybe he was jealous because the other 2 men were far more entertaining and enjoyable to watch. Demond held his own on the show but he has to remember it was a different time back then. Of course we wish things would've been better for each and everyone of us but those were the times. Thank God he's a preacher now. |

I think a lot of it had to do with the time too... I mean many African American were really trying hard to gain the respect they expected from society, and maybe Demond saw the image that Sammy and Flip portrayed as more of the subserviant roles that they had always been delegated to... just a guess here. I know some people in the black community saw Sammy as just a token black in the Rat Pack.... I think he had a lot to prove and did it in the best way he knew how, but some of the younger generation of black entertainers in the 70's struggled with the older ones breaking into showbiz the way they did, doing things the way the white exeutives expected them to be.... as for Flip... I dunno... maybe he saw him as too lighthearted.... and parodying too many of the stereotypes.... it was a hard time for black entertainers... I think things have changed, I certainly hope so. Still, you have to admire all that Sammy and Flip did to bring their talent to the forefront even in those times....
BTW these are just some insights from a NYC girl growing up in the 70's and only my opinions.... please, I don't mean to start a debate..... |

Wasn't there some scene in CATM, where they mentioned S+S?
Like Chico comes into the garage rolling a bunch of tires, and says: "Ed, this is the last time we buy from Sanford & Son!" |

TVResearcher is correct. It was the episode "Morgan and the Man" where Chico said "This is the last time we buy tires from Sanford and Son."
![]() Oh and just a side note, it's also where he says the line "Come here to me."
