intelligent,well written,character driven pilot that derived its comedy/drama from the characters and situations.
the same CINEMA VERITE TECHNIQUE featured on such shows as M*A*S*H and Hill Street Blues.

the cast is

frank parrish a professor from boston who inherited THE CHEZ LOUISANNE restaurant from his father who he had'nt seen since he was 2 years old.

big arthur the head cook

shorty the assistant chef

tiger the bartender

anna-may the head waitress

miss marie the waitress who only waits on customers who ate at chez louisianne for 20 years or more

cool charles the handyman and bartender

mrs. bertha griffin the owner of the neighborhood funeral polar and one of the regulars.

hannah griffin the daughter of bertha a mortician and another regular

the reverend deal the out of work minister

bubba weisberger the lawyer for the chez louisianne

the theme for FRANKS PLACE is "do you know what it means to miss new orleans?" by louis armstrong which now seens ironic considering hurricane katrina

anybody who has this episode or has seen this episode please feel free to contribute to this thread

I really liked the pilot.

With a great cast of characters, this is just a brief introduction to the situation of Frank Parrish inheriting a restaurant from his late father which he never knew (gone since he was 2). From the supporting characters we get the sense of family that the Chez has produced over the years, and how Frank is now going to be a part of it.

Though Frank looks to sell and return to his life in Boston, it is evident he will be back to run the restaurant and adjust to his new transplanted life.

Having watched more episodes than just the pilot, I have to say that Bubba is one of my favorite characters, and that Tim Reid is great as Frank, a really nice and likeable guy getting an education in New Orleans history and living.
