I have just a fragmented memory of a 60s sitcom. When it was time to go into action an older man would spell out the word ACTION! Seems like it was a hero type show. This is driving me crazy!

Are you still there? Anyway, I think the show you are probably looking for is called "Mr. Terrific". In any case, it fits your description pretty well. I hope I could be of any help. If not, I tried.

Yes, I'd have to concur. It certainly sounds like Mr. Terrific to me. I can't think of any other program in which a regular character spelled out A-C-T-I-O-N when a job needed to be done.
