It's not so much untrusting as it is hurt and anger.... Life is full of things that we have to do that we later regret.

Jack and Janet were watching their friends walk around with the hurt they felt. Neither knew how to help their best friends. Soon, it was moving day for Jack and Janet. They were happy to be moving into their new home. That happiness was dimmed slightly by the unhapiness of their friends. Terri had spent countless hours in her bedroom. She cried constantly and never came out except to go to the bathroom.

Larry was only a little better. He walked with slumped shoulders and had lost some of the wit that he was known for. Jack decided that they needed to go out to the Begal. So he took him there on their way home from work. Larry didn't really feel like going out. He just did it to please Jack. The two friends found a quiet booth in the corner and talked.

"Okay Larry! Spill it! You look like you have lost your best friend."

"I have Jack! I miss Terri. I miss seeing her smile at me. I miss holding her hand. I miss kissing her. I even miss fighting with her. I hate that I let her down. I should have fought harder to save the baby."

Jack shook his head and said "There was nothing you could have done Larry! The doctor said it himself. If you hadn't made the choice they could have both died."

Larry shook his head and said "Could have! Not would have!! Could have! There might have been a chance to save them both! I let her down Jack. I feel so worthless...."

"Larry! That is crazy talk!! I Don't believe that for a minute. You did what you thought was best for Terri! If she is too stubborn to believe that then..."

"Damn it Jack! I killed our baby! I can't believe that you can stand to be in the same room as me..."

Jack put his hand on Larry's back and said "Larry you did not kill your baby. You know that and deep down I am sure that Terri knows that. She is just hurting right now."

Larry shook his head and said "I need to get out of here. I am going to the beach..."

Jack watched as Larry practically ran out of the Begal. Jack sighed and hoped that Janet was having more luck with Terri.

Janet had no more luck with Terri than Jack had with Larry. She simply stared into space. Janet tried to talk to her.

"Terri honey! You need to snap out of this. It isn't good for you! I hate seeing you like this!"

Terri simply looked at Janet and sighed. She wasn't in the mood for one of Janet's pep talks!! She wanted to be alone so she could cry. She told Janet "I have nothing to look forward to Janet. I lost the man that I love and my baby."

"I don't think Larry feels the same way. He still loves you Terri."

Terri shrugged and said "Well, I don't think I can face him. After what happened."

Janet patted her back and said "It killed Larry to have to choose between you and the baby. I hope you realize that!"

"I wish that he had let me die too. It would be better than the way I feel now!"

"Don't say that Terri Alden!! You have so much to look forward to Terri! Larry loves you."

"If he loves me so much why did he decide to get rid of the baby?"

"Terri if he hadn't you could have died!"

"I could have!! Not would have!! He could have tried harder!"

With that she ran out of the apartment and down to the beach! Once she got there she noticed a man on the beach. She didn't realize that it was Larry. She walked to the water and stood there looking at the waves! She felt the tears running down her face!! She was tormented by so many things! Most of all she felt betrayed by her body! How could this have happened to her? She had always wanted children! Was she destined to never have children? More importantly she was to build a life with someone. There was only one someone that she wanted. She finally admitted it to herself. She wanted to make a life and home with Larry. She loved him deeply and wanted to share her life with him. The good and the bad. The happy and the sad!

She walked out into the water and let the cool waves hit her skin. She walked farther and farther out into the ocean. Soon the water was up to her chin. How easy it would be to slip under the water and end the pain forever. She took a deep breath and closed her eyes and slipped under the water. She broke the surface and walked out of the water. She saw Larry sitting on the beach with his head down and his eyes closed. She walked over to him and sat down. She said quietly "Hi Larry..."

He startled and said "Terri?"

She smiled and said "Yeah!"

He stood and said "I can't bear to be around you! I let you down in the worst possible way!! I can't..."

With that he turned to run away. He was in the street when Terri called him. It was that split second that a speeding car came out of nowhere and hit Larry. It sent him flying into the air. Terri screamed and ran to where he was laying on the ground. She yelled "Call 911!!"

Terri watched helplessly as the paramedics arrived and loaded Larry into the back of the ambulance. She was allowed to ride with them to the hospital. It felt like she was in a bad dream. To this day she remembered walking down the hallway of the hospital. She remembered the smells and sounds. Everything else was a blank though. She knows that she called Jack and Janet. They arrived at the hospital and tried to comfort her. They tried to tell her that it wasn't her fault. She knew better though. If she hadn't called after Larry he never would have looked back and would have seen the car speeding towards him. No, it was her fault that Larry was laying in that hospital room. She would never forgive herself. For as long as she lived she would remember this moment.

She went to the hospital chapel. She needed to pray. Not for herself. For Larry. She cried as she talked "Um God. I haven't done this in a long time. I am not asking anything for myself. I am asking for a miracle for Larry. He doesn't deserve to be laying in there. He is the kindest man I know. Sure he can be impulsive at times, but I really do love him. I need him. He is the best thing that has ever happened to me! I just pray it isn't too late!"

With that she bowed her head to cry! Tears of sadness, regret and loss. For the baby that she lost and the love that she found and possibly lost. She doubted that Larry would ever forgive her now. She wouldn't blame him if he hated her. She could never forgive herself. She walked to sit beside Janet and Jack. She stared blankly at a spot on the wall. She wished that she was anywhere else right now. The doctor's came out to speak with them. The outlook was good. It seemed that he had a concussion and some scrapes and bruises, but otherwise he was fine.

Terri breathed a sigh of relief. She smiled for the first time in a long time. She asked "Can we see him?"

The doctor nodded and said "Yes. Just for a few minutes though. He needs his rest."

The three friends went inside and smiled as they saw Larry laying in the bed. He was groggy but awake. Jack said "Hey buddy! How are you feeling?"

Larry smiled and said "Like I was hit by a car!"

They all laughed and Janet said "He's back to normal."

Larry reached his hand out to Terri and said "Hi there beautiful!"

Terri walked close to him and leaned over and said "I'm sorry!" She had tears in her eyes. Larry shook his head and said "There is nothing to be sorry for!

He pulled her close and kissed her deeply. The scene ends on them kissing....

The months passed quickly. Terri and Larry settled into a comfortable routine. Soon it was almost time for Jack and Janet's baby to be born. Terri was busy setting up a baby shower. She had everything planned. Right down to the last detail. Terri had it planned that Jack was going to take Janet to the mall. Then they would stop by the old apartment to "visit" Terri. Everything was perfect. She had Jack cook all the food for her. Chips and dip were waiting and all her friends were there and waiting for the guest of honor to arrive.

Larry smiled as he left to go bowling. He kissed Terri and asked "Are you okay?"

Terri looked at him for a minute and said "Why wouldn't I be okay?"

Larry frowned and said "No reason." Although they both new what he was talking about they didn't want to open up past wounds. It was still to painful for them to talk about. So they pushed it to the back of their minds and buried the pain.

Jack arrived right on time. The lights were off and everyone was hiding and Terri heard Janet say as they opened the door "I don't think anyone is home Jack!"

Suddenly everyone sprang out of their hiding spots and shouted "Surprise!!"

Janet was shocked and smiled as she saw all of her friends gathered to celebrate the baby's impending arrival. They had a wonderful time. Everyone laughed and joked around. They opened the presents and they ate lots and lots of food. All in all it was a wonderful baby shower.

Janet and Terri were sitting in the kitchen after everyone left. Janet was waiting for Jack to arrive. Terri was quiet and sipping a cup of tea. Janet was talking so much that she didn't seem to notice that Terri was quiet. She smiled and laughed, but other than that she was quiet. Jack arrived and hugged Terri. He gathered the gifts and they were out the door in no time.

Terri started cleaning up. She sat down on the couch and was throwing trash into the trash can. All of the pent up emotions of the day finally got to her. She held one of the pieces of wrapping paper to her chest. She felt the tears fall down her face. Her baby would have been born today. She had been due two weeks before Janet. She finished cleaning up. She cried the whole time she worked. She finally finished and turned out the lights in the kitchen. She climbed into her bed and tossed and turned all night. She finally fell asleep around 2 a.m.

Janet talked all the way home. When they got home Jack unloaded the car and smiled. They definitely had wonderful friends. Jack asked Janet "Terri seemed awfully quiet tonight. I wonder if something is up with her."

Janet thought about it for a minute and said quietly "Oh my gosh! I totally forgot! Today was the day that she was due..."

"Your kidding?!"

Janet shook her head and said "I wish I was! I totally forgot! God, I feel like such an idiot!!"

"Janet honey! Don't feel bad! I'm sure Terri will be fine. We can take a ride over there tomorrow if you like!"

Janet smiled and said "I would love that!"

Jack kissed her and they walked upstairs to their bedroom. They turned out the lights and went to sleep.....
