Default Hello Larry on South American television

A few years ago I looked at some TV show fansite, and Hello Larry was one of the shows featured. The person who had this site said Hello Larry for some strange reason was enormously popular in South America. In the late 1990's it was still shown on TV in Brazil because that person said somebody sent them tapes from there.

Do they watch just anything down in Brazil? I wonder what other shows get played in other countries that have not been played on U.S. television for years? Flo? Lotsa Luck? Condo? Townies? Tabitha? Fay? My Mother the Car? Once A Hero? Life with Lucy?

the short lived 1968 series The Good Guys with Bob Denver was shown in South America as well.

Why do people spend so much time putting down shows that they don't like, and the people who do? If you don't enjoy a show, why try to make other people feel bad or stupid because they like it?

It's interesting that "Hello, Larry" is a hit anywhere in the world, because it wasn't produced for too long. But it just goes to show that you never know what folks will dig...or buy.

I consider "bashing" to be an extreme. People see and read things differently, just like opinions differ on tv shows. The original post seems to imply that anyone who likes one or more of the shows that they have listed, would watch just anything...ha ha ha. Now, whatever, I'm not trying to start a fight or make a big deal out of nothing. That is fairly "bash-lite", if it is to be consdiered bashing at all. I can appreciate humour. But on this site in general, there seems to be a handful of people who persist in cutting folks down for enjoying a show that they don't. Not just simply disagreeing with a shows merits, but saying things that perpetuate the negative over and over again. Trying to seem very clever, by insulting individuals for finding the good in a "bad" show. And, yes, even bashing. It's an open ended question; I don't expect a definitive answer, because I don't think that there is one.

Having said that, I hated the show "Small Wonder" with a passion! But I wouldn't show up in an MB for it, to repeatedly say that I thought it stunk on ice, and that anyone who cared for it was a mental reject (for example).

And you know, I wonder if folks in Brazil will watch just anything! From America, that is. I wonder what the market is like for tv shows out there. Maybe we'll get a BRAZILLIAN dvd set of
"Hello, Larry"! You know, we might! I've scored a couple of Brazil issued dvd's on eBay, of titles you can't buy here...and the quality was great!

Hang around with us long enough and you will see that some of us are mostly a SARCASTIC group and not so much of a BASHING group . A lot of us DO rag on the things we like. I do like most of the shows mentioned above, and yes, I do remember them being bad from what little I can remember from then. Believe me, I'm one of "those people" that will watch just about anything. I think I'm only who likes the 1st season of The Facts of Life because it was corny and silly, and I'll admit it. If it makes somebody mad they will just need to deal with it.

I'm sure the studios were able to sell our "reject" shows to S.A. pretty cheap. Actually I wish the lousy stations in the United States would get a selection like Brazil, but it looks like they send all of the old interesting shows there.

Yes, we have people who try to cause trouble every once in awhile, but all problems are usually taken care of fast around here believe it or not. If I was truly causing trouble I'd be long gone by now.

I do remember Small Wonder a little bit. Wasn't that about Vickie the robot girl? It would probably get released before HL. The plot of the show does sound silly.

Hey, it's cool. Maybe I picked the wrong thread to address the issue. Your post wasn't bad, and like I said, this is an impression I picked up from many threads I read. Yours is quite tame. I didn't mean to pick on you personally, and I'm sorry if it seemed that way. I don't mean to come off as "holier than thou", either. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I just think that some could be alot more respectful. I know I'm a newbie around here, so I apppreciate your thoughtful reply.

I haven't seen some of these shows in years...who knows what I might think now?

Yes, "Small Wonder" concerned a little robot girl that a family was trying to pass off as a flesh and blood human being. It was really aimed at the kiddies.
Anyway, I wanna come to your house and watch "Flo" and "Hello, Larry"...

Best,
Christopher

You'd be welcome to come, but I don't have Flo or Hello Larry. I'm only recently getting nostalgic for old faves. The only titles I really have right now are Maude and Facts of Life taped from Comcast on Demand.

Well, I'm supposed to have a few episodes of "Flo" on the way to me. So if you wanna show up here, we can throw popcorn at the tv screen, while we snarl insults at each other about how "dumb" we are for wanting to watch such "bad" shows!

Oh trust me, I would gladly watch any season 1 episode 100 times over than to watch an episode with Beverly Ann in it...or, for that matter, "The Facts of Life Down Under."

there is a fair amount of show-bashing that goes on here - but it is generally less tolerated than it is on MOST other messageboards. As long as the "criticism" is done in good humor with out getting personal, you should just try to ignore it - if it IS too extreme or personal, you should report it by clicking on the "Report Post" button under the person's avatar.

There is also a fair amount of the other extreme - where people get too defensive when someone says ANYTHING critical of their favorite show, people need to lighten up and remember that this is just a messageboard...
