Default Ok Solomon, how about we come to an agreement with this analogy?

We all know what the definition of a spinoff is.

We all Know that Good Times was created way before Maude.

Norman Lear wanted a recognizable character to head the Good Times sitcom, so he moved Esther Rolle from Maude to Good Times, keeping the name of Florida Evans.

Although, technically GT is a spinoff because of the Florida Evans character, the creators Evans and Monte wanted to separate GT from Maude as much as possible to distinguish it, not as a spinoff, but its own show.

How about that?

i can see that.

there is no wonder they put them in Chicago, not NYC.

Once the producers settled for Chicago, the Evan Family life in NYC was a distant memory.

Good points - tough to argue with that!

(Brian, you know this will kill Solomon if it finally puts and end to The Great GT Debate!)

To the creators, it "really wasn't" a spinoff because they wanted to separate Maude from Good Times. However, in theory, it is still a spinoff by the usual standards because Norman Lear used a Maude character in Florida Evans.
