San Francisco Girl

Okay here's another fic..I know the TD part really isn't here right now but it will be..just be patient! If any of you have ever seen Jersey Girl, then you know what happens hehe Well anyway, here it is!

It’s mid July in the year 1994 and Teddy Blumenthal was at a party for work. At this time, he was living in Washington D.C. He had a very nice apartment, he had enough money, his own car..what more could he want? They had just nailed this big time client. While he was at this party, he bumped into a girl. Their eyes met.

Teddy- I’m so sorry. I can get clumsy.
Elise- Me too. It was my fault.
Teddy- No really it was mine.
Elise-Well if you insist, it was your fault. *Laughs*
Teddy- *Smiles* I’m Theodore.
Elise- I’m Elise.
Teddy- Call me Teddy.
Elise- Call me..Elise. *Laughed and Smile*

From then on, they were inseparable. They went out to dinner almost every night and called each other constantly. They had been going out for about 5 months and Teddy thought it was time to put her to the ultimate test. He would take her to meet his family. They lived back in San Francisco. They had some money but never tried to show it. They lived in a normal house on a street you never knew was there. Elise and Teddy got there and found his Dad putting up some Christmas lights.

Teddy- Dad
Robert- Teddy, I’m glad you came And who is this pretty young lady?
Teddy- This is Elise.
Elise- It’s very nice to meet you Mr. Blumenthal.
Robert- Oh please call me Bob.

They went inside and they all sat to a very nice meal.

Robert- Now I hope my son is treating you right.
Elise- Oh he is. He has to be the most romantic man I’ve ever met.
Robert- That’s my boy
Janice- Oh funny Robert. Let me tell ya, when I was young and met this “romantic” guy here, I had to practically BEG for some roses for Valentine’s Day.
Robert- That’s not true I was going to get them anyway.
Janice- On your way to the football party?
Robert- As a matter of fact, yes.
Elise- Well now I have something to look forward to. *Leans into Teddy and kisses him*
Teddy- *Smiles* You sure do.
Janice- Now why couldn’t you be that romantic?
Robert- Oh boy..

Teddy was very pleased the Elise had survived her first trip to San Francisco. While they were out for dinner one evening, he had her look out the window and on the side of an airplane read ‘Will you marry me, Elise?’ She was almost in tears and screamed YES They started kissing and everyone in the restaurant clapped.

After being married for a month, Elise realized she wasn’t feeling right. Teddy thought she should go to the doctor’s. So she did. Elise and Teddy both sat in the examining room, waiting for the results. Teddy walked over to the Blood Pressure machine and started playing with it.

Teddy- Hey, think we should take this? *Giggles*
Elise- *Smiles* Put that down. You could take some gloves though. *Grins*

There was a knock on the examining room door. The doctor walked in, staring at Elise. She smiled and nodded her head.

Doctor Baker- You’re pregnant Elise.
Elise- *Screamed in excitement*
Teddy- *Kissed her* Thank you Doctor.
Elise- Thank you very much.
Doctor Baker- You are welcome

Months had passed by now. Elise and Teddy were getting ready for the party held every year and Elise was feeling very self conscious about how she looked. Teddy tried to help her.

Teddy- Honey, the dress looks great.
Elise- How do you expect me to be your beautiful wife with this huge gut? How am I supposed to make you look good?
Teddy- By being you. You’re having a baby Elise. You can’t be expected to look like a stick when you’re pregnant.
Elise- I want to be the thin girl I used to be.
Teddy- Well that’s not going to happen for another 4 months.
Elise- I can’t go with you tonight Teddy.
Teddy- Yes you can, and I don’t care, pregnant or not, you’ll be the most beautiful girl there.
Elise- Aw that’s so sweet. Thank you.
Teddy- Now let’s go.

Time had come for them to get ready to have their child. Elise signed them up for some lamaze classes together. But being a lawyer, Teddy was swamped with work and forgot about the class. Elise was there alone and waited there for Teddy. The class was at 4:00PM and at 4:30PM, he remembered the class and got in his car to rush down. The class was only 45 minutes so by the time he got there, husbands and wives were walking out. He looked around for his wife.

Elise- You know I need a husband that will actually show up.
Teddy- I’m sorry I forgot. I was swamped with–
Elise- Work I know. I had work too but I was here on time.
Teddy- I’m sorry.
Elise- Look, that guy who worked most of the day and did extra work at night, that isn’t you
anymore. You need to be home by 5:00 and spend the rest of the time with your family.
Teddy- I’m sorry Elise. I’ll make it to the rest of the classes.
Elise- You’d better. I hate being the only single mother here.
Teddy- Well trust me, you are no single woman. *Kisses her*

Couple weeks had passed and they were waiting and waiting for the baby to come. One January 14th evening, they got their wish. They rushed to the hospital. As Teddy was running in, Elise started to laugh, realizing he had forgotten the most important thing..her Teddy ran right up to the nurses desk and grabbed a nurse.

Teddy- You’re gonna help us My wife’s water broke. We’re having a baby
Nurse- Got an interesting question for you.
Teddy- We don’t have time..my wife–
Nurse- That’s my question. I need the pregnant woman here.
Teddy- Dammit!

As Teddy was running out the door, his wife was coming in the door. He hugged her and apologized for leaving her behind. She just laughed. The nurse came up to them with a wheelchair. Elise sat down in it.

Nurse- Now, we’re going to check your progress, get you set up, and call your doctor. I’m going to leave him with the paperwork..that is if you can handle it.
Teddy- Of course I can. Elise, I’ll be right in as soon as I’m done with this here.
Elise- I love you Teddy.
Teddy- Everything’s going to be fine. We practiced in the classes. How hard can it be?

Elise was now in the delivery room with Teddy right beside her.

Doctor Baker- Come on Elise, just a few more
Elise- I can’t do it anymore. It hurts too bad.
Doctor Baker- I know it hurts but you have to. Come on, PUSH
Elise- I’m trying
Teddy- Come on..1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10.
Elise- Oh my god. This is the last Theodore!!
Doctor Baker- Elise, just a little more..I can see her head.
Elise- Teddy can you see it?
Teddy- Oh my god it’s a little head.
Doctor Baker- One more Elise. Push!

Elise screamed with all her might. She was extremely exhausted. The big moment came. It was a girl.

Doctor Baker- Elise, you have a beautiful baby girl. 7lbs 6oz.
Teddy- It’s a girl. We have a little girl.
Elise- *Weakly* Go...go see her.
Teddy- I’ll be right back.

As Teddy was with his new baby girl, Elise was feeling very tired. She had to shut her eyes.

Doctor Baker- Now we’ll get her all cleaned up and then Elise can–

She looked over at Elise and realized she wasn’t awake.

Doctor Baker- Elise? Elise, can you hear me? Wake up.

The doctor went over to her and tried to wake her up. She wouldn’t wake.

Doctor Baker- Code blue Nurse, get an IV started.
Teddy- She’s just resting. She’s tired. Elise, wake up Lise.
Nurse- You need to step outside.
Teddy- No I’m staying with my wife.
Nurse- We need to find out what’s wrong now WAIT OUTSIDE!
Teddy- I told you I am staying.
Nurse- Security

Nurses and security guards escorted him outside while they were working on Elise. He thought he would go and see his daughter but he had a tough time since they couldn’t contact the doctor or the mother so they wouldn’t let him in. He just sat out in the hall with his head in his hands. He didn’t know what to think. He just waited and waited. About an hour later, as he was still sitting down, the doctor tapped on his shoulder.

Doctor Baker- Teddy..
Teddy- I want to see my wife right now.
Doctor Baker- I need you to relax.
Teddy- How the hell am I supposed to relax? You kicked my out of my wife’s room. I haven’t gotten to see my baby.
Doctor Baker- I had nurses check on your baby. She’s healthy.
Teddy- Well then tell me what’s wrong with Elise!
Doctor Baker- You need to calm down.
Teddy- I’m calm *Took a deep breath* I’m calm.
Doctor Baker- We think she had an aneurysm.
Teddy- Is she okay?
Doctor Baker- We couldn’t save her Teddy. I’m sorry. The strain of delivering the baby had to have caused the aneurysm to rupture. I’m so sorry.
Teddy- Wait. So you’re telling me that my healthy young wife..is gone?
Doctor- I’m sorry Teddy.

The doctor tried to put her hand on his shoulder to try and console him but he pushed it off and just broke down crying. She knelt next to him and tried to help. After talking to the doctor, he walked over to the nursery and looked at his daughter through the window. He just stared at her. He didn’t know whether to be grateful that the only thing Elise wanted, lived or to be hateful towards the baby for taking away his love. He just walked away and drove home. Three days later, they held the funeral. It was fast but he wanted to get it out of the way. He thought the sooner they got the funeral over with, the sooner his heartache would heal. After sitting there, watching them put his wife into the ground, people came over to him and his family to give him their sympathies. He didn’t want them. He did not want people feeling sorry for him. He just kept everything inside and looked at the grave. It was still sinking into his brain that he would never see Elise again. He went to the hospital to pick up his daughter. He still hadn’t named her yet. Teddy felt it appropriate to name the baby Elise. He held his daughter in his arms and felt awful cause he didn’t feel anything. All he saw in his baby’s eyes were Elise and how she did this to him. He hated feeling that way. He put her in the car seat and they drove home to pick up a few things and then left to San Francisco.
