Default Why this show was different from the Jeffersons, Good Times, and Sanford and Son

The one major thing his show lack was a strong father figure. here was just Clifton And his mama but no DAd. But in the other shows you had strong Fathers like Gerge Jefferson, James Evans, and Fred Sanford.

Another difference was that there ws no STAND OUT character like it was in the Jeffersons Good Times, and Sanford and Son. It was more of a laid back comedy. The one character on That's My Mama that was unique was not seen that often. But the show was not EDGY at all.

So in other words, it was clean and didn't take on social issues, right?

Well they did have a episode about Clifton having a gun but that was about it. The main problem with the show was that the MAIN CHARACTERS were boring. No show can be successful if the main characters are dull. Now on the Flipside, Fred Sanford was a main character and was a riot, So was George Jefferson, and James Evans/Florida Evans. Clifton and his mom was NOT FUUNY at all.

That's My Mama was on the same entertainment level as Baby I'm Back. But I think What's Happening was slightly better than THat's My Mama. I will say That's My Mama was better than the last season of What's Happening.

I haven't seen the show in years, but what I liked about it was that it was breezy, but that doesn't mean it wasn't funny or a quality show.

I'm sure there were some social issues that were brought up, but for the most part it was about Clifton trying to live his life and his mom thinking she knows what's best.

And Solomon, look at your posts.
You said in the past that the show isn't that good.

"The main problem with the show was that the MAIN CHARACTERS were boring. No show can be successful if the main characters are dull"

SO why now are you so excited to see it come to dvd?

At the Time when I made that statement i only seen 3 eps but the show is watchable/buyable. There was a social issue discuss in one episode about Clifton having a Gun.

I really don't get it either. You are trashing the show more than praising it.

Well the first 2 eps I received I didn't enjoy too much but once I received more and more I then started tto enjoy the show a lot more. Plus I haven't had a chance to watch the eps between Sept 74-and Dec 74 which were the eps TV Guide watched and gave the show a Good Review.

Between That's My Mama and Baby I'm Back, I'd be more excited to see Baby I'm Back again just because I remember it slightly (I mean slightly) more than I remember That's My Mama. I remember both shows as a child but I remember looking forward to Baby I'm Back when it premiered because I'd been familiar with Demond Wilson from Sanford and Son and seeing him on a new series was a big deal. Plus I knew Denise Nicholas from the movies she did with Bill Cosby and Sidney Poitier.

Yeah Baby I'm Back was enjoyable because of the Grandmother dislike for Ray-Demond Wilson. I haven't watched enough eps of That's My Mama to see if there were Two characters who didn't like each other. But From what I saw I would still say both shows are on the Entertaiment Level.
