I attended a thing at the Museum Of TV And Radio tonight which featured Denis Leary and several cast members of "The Job" along with Peter Tolan, the co-creator of the series.
They screened an episode (which aired tonight) and took questions from the audience. What a funny group of people! This cast really enjoys working on the show and with each other. Alas, they are all worried the show will be cancelled, since they haven't heard anything from ABC as of yet. I urge anyone who is a fan of this great series to contact ABC and ask them to keep this awesome show on the air. Oh! Lenny Clarke (Det. Frank Harrigan) has lost a ton of weight! Seriously, he is now about half the size he was on the show. He's a stick! They're hoping the show gets picked up so they can write his weight loss into the show! Save The JOB!!! |

I'm afraid this show is going to get cancelled as well. ABC is planning on loading up their schedule next season with more mainstream shows and less, well, interesting shows. You can sort of understand why ABC is doing this because their biggest hit comedies are "My Wife and Kids" and "According to Jim". Shows that don't do anything that hasn't been done before that appeal to a mass audience.
I do think "The Job" could get a larger audience. If ABC were to move the show from 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday to 10 p.m. on Tuesday, I think the ratings would go way up. "NYPD Blue" is much more compatible with "The Job" than "Drew Carey". "NYPD Blue" also has a bigger audience than "Drew Carey". |

The general concensus of the cast (particulalry Peter Tolan and Denis Leary) is that ABC has failed to provide them with a decent lead in, since there really is no show that is compatible with theirs.
Also, they feel that going up against "The West WIng" is pure suicide. ("Christ, Even I watch West Wing," Denis Leary quipped) They were also quick to point out that their show rates highly with the advertisers, who are very loyal to the show, so the show is generating money for the network. Also, shelving the show for months on end and not premiering it in the Fall is greatly hurting their chances. I gotta tell you, listening to the cast of this show rant about how much more ABC can do for the show was really interesting. They really are passionate about saving this show. |
