It was early on a Friday night. Wally was getting ready for his date with Julie. He was planning to take her to an expensive restaurant, a romantic movie, and then a midnight stroll on the beach.
When Wally arrived to pick up Julie, she looked as beautiful as she could be. He knew it was going to be the perfect night; he was going to propose to her. Wally thought it was time because they had been going steady for almost 2 years. When Julie was ready to leave, after about an hour, they drove away in Wally’s new Mercedes.
Wally had made reservations earlier, so when they arrived at the restaurant, they were seated right away. Julie thanked Wally for taking her out and he said “anything for you baby.” They happily chatted while finishing their meals.
After dinner, Wal and Julie drove about 5 blocks to the local drive in. The special feature was Romeo and Juliet; the perfect movie for their date. Wally and Julie cuddled in the front seat together as they watched the film. Wally did not pay much attention to it because he was nervous thinking about the right moment to propose. He decided to pop the question during the scene when Romeo asks Juliet to marry her.
When the scene eventually came on, Wally turned to Julie and told her he had something to ask her. “What is it baby?” Julie responded cheerfully. Wally nervously replied, “We have been together for almost 2 years and I love you more than anything…Will you marry me?” Julie cried, “Yes, I will marry you.” They said I love you to each other and shared a longing kiss.
The movie was finally done and Wally and Julie decided to walk to the nearby beach. Mayfield was a fairly small town, so almost everything was in short walking distance. As the two eventually reached the beach they walked down to the shore and Wally put his arms around Julie and they stood there for a while staring passionately into each other’s eyes. They then began walking around the lake holding hands. Soon after Julie complained she was getting tired so they found a place to rest on the sand. Wally sat Julie down in his lap and wrapped his jacket around her. They stayed there for about an hour and Wally carried Julie to the car because she was sleeping.
Wally decided to go to his house first to break the news to his family. Ward, June, and the Beaver gladly congratulated the couple and welcomed Julie to the family. The two then went to Julie’s house to tell her parents. At first her parents were shocked, but were very happy for Julie and Wally.
