Paul Lynde's answers are so off-the-wall that they are hilarious. His delivery is one of a kind too!
After watching the reruns though I am surprised how much I actually like Buddy Hackett. But Paul is the best center square and Buddy should stay in a corner.

it's Paul Lynde! his voice and mannerisms are perfect for the center square. if Paul wasn't in the center, i would want the great Vincent Price to do the honors. Buddy Hackett is strange. he sits and stairs cross-eyed and he looks like he's spaced-out...if this is an act then he's a genius! i have to turn the channel when he's on because he too painful to watch.

I actually like Paul Lynde as the center square on the original "Hollywood Squares" on the old GSN. I missed the original "Squares" on GSN, because they replaced it with the Whoopi one. Maybe sometime in October, the new GSN will air the post-Whoopi episodes.

Default Best 'Center-Square' on The Hollywood Squares

Everybody say it with me: Paul Lynde!!! He was the absolute best ever on the original Peter Marshall 'Squares'! He can get any audience laughing up a storm or from an applause and whistles/laugh track machine.
