The Baseball Routine that Abbott & Costello perform to benefit the retired actors home is funny don't you think? The only position they don't name in the routine I beleive is right field. Who's on 1st, what's on second, I dont know is on third. A couple of days as your pitcher & catcher. When who gets paid who signs his check & gets all his money. Sometimes his wife comes down to get it. I play this tape over & over to get a good laugh, don't you?

COSTELLO:You know the players' names?
ABBOTT:Certainly. COSTELLO:Who's on first? ABBOTT:That's right. COSTELLO:What's right? ABBOTT:Who's right! COSTELLO:The first baseman. ABBOTT:Who. COSTELLO:The one playing first. ABBOTT:Who's on first. COSTELLO:What are you asking me for? ABBOTT:I'm not asking you,I'm telling you-Who's on first! COSTELLO:I'm asking you who's on first. ABBOTT:That's his name. COSTELLO:What's his name? ABBOTT:What is on second base. COSTELLO:I'm not asking you who's on second. ABBOTT:Who's on first! COSTELLO:I don't know. ABBOTT:He's on third! COSTELLO:Could you tell me the outfielder's name? ABBOTT:Why. COSTELLO:I just thought I'd ask. ABBOTT:I just thought I'd tell you. COSTELLO:Then tell me the outfielder's name! ABBOTT:Why. COSTELLO:Because! ABBOTT:Oh,he's centerfield. ------------------ Richard Ranke |

"Who's on first" is one of the all-time great routines!

I have the classic episode on cassette as part of Radio Spirits' "60 of the Greatest Old Time Radio Shows of the 20th Century" as selected by Walter Kronkite and the "Best of the Abbott & Costello Show - Live!" on VHS.

I remember last month on "Radio Showtime" with Bill Eberle on WVKR in Vassar College in Poughkeepsie that Bill was playing a radio show called the "N-K Musical Showroom" with the Andrew Sisters and their special guests Abbott & Costello doing the same routine as it does before. I have that one I copied off of WVKR in steaming m3u from the internet to a cassette. Before the classic routine, the Andrew Sisters sang the original version of "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" long before Bette Midler had a hit version of the original classic back in the 70's.
