They had a decent one last season. It was called "It's All Relative." They couldn't wait to cancel it. They couldn't even wait two weeks to the finale to cancel it. That right there made me take ABC off the remote for 6 months. And when I came back, I took a cold hard look at the sitcoms they felt worthy of being brought back, and realized all of them should be so lucky as to be called "not that good." I hold out hope that when Eisner is gone, somebody takes his place that will give us shows like "Roseanne," "Sledge Hammer!," "The Slap Maxwell Story," "Joe Bash," "Home Improvement," "Grace Under Fire" and "The Wonder Years" again. Hell, I'd even settle for "The Charmings" or "Mr. Belvedere." Quote:

I agree on the acting in GL. The wife, in particular, is horrible. The mom in not so bad. It is really well written, though.
I did see It's All Relative a few times and I like it. Not I'll drop everything to see it liked it, but if it was on and I wasn't do anything else liked it. That was another show that didn't really fit in on ABC. ABC's undergone this huge transition where it went from family sitcoms (Roseanne, HI, Grace) to urban sitcoms (Drew Carey, Dharma, Spin city, Ellen), and now it's back to family sitcoms again. The difference? 10 years ago, ABC ruled family sitcoms quality wise. Roseanne is one example where the network let Roseanne do what she wanted to; she in turn created a cultural icon that broke all the rules and was probably one of the 10 best sitcoms ever, and probably the second most socially groundbreaking after AITF. Now it's got shows like According To Jim and H&F which add absolutely nothing to the genre, and are not well done to boot. ABC, what happened to your spunk? That's why I love Lopez. The plotlines and jokes are more risque than ones down on other shows, like Benny getting the clap. The show is taking some chances, as opposed to 90% of sitcoms on the air right now. I say some, because for every Benny story, they go to Disneyland, or some saccarine crap like that. ABC! Stop! No more Disney episodes! Let your shows go. Let them do what they want. Don't write their scripts for them. Don't "pre-approve" them. Only then will you come up with the next "Roseanne." |
