Question Dick Clark nice or nasty

I read elsewhere on the internet last night that Dick Clark is one of the most nastiest, meanest, hard to deal with man in entertainment today.

True one must take these things with a grain of salt, many folks even today say that Clark lied is his way out of those famous 50s payola hearings and for that many still have a grudge.

But I have heard over the years from others that Clark is not a nice man, refuses to sign autographs, yells often, ect... I remember checking out an interview on the radio years ago, she was a dancer on American Bandstand and even she said that Clark was 2 persons, smiles in front of the camera but once the camera is not on him, he turns very cold. She went on to say that Clark didnt even talk to the kids and just left the studio without even a little thank you after the taping was done ( unlike Bob Barker who I heard likes to talk to the audience once Roddy says a "Mark Goodson Production").

I just wonder if any of this stuff is true. If it is then Dick Clark must be one fine actor as he seems so nice whenever he is on tv.

With as much power as he has in the entertainment business, that wouldn't surprise me a bit.

Somewhere in my collection I have a copy of Bandstand from 1967 that featured Van Morrison. In this episode Clark is counting down the top 10 tunes and when he got to number #1 ( which was Respect by the way ) someone, as a joke I guess held onto the card only to have Clark yanked it way. Then he ( Clark ) gave the person ( who was seen off camera ) what looked like to me the middle finger and then you can see Clark mouthing something. I played the tape in slow motion it looks like he said " F*** YOU !!" Of course this happened so fast its hard to know whats going on.

As far as the Pyramid shows goes, I have noticed that for the most part Dick Clark doesnt get too close/ friendly with the contestants as the other hosts are. I can tell there is a certain amont of coldness there.

But with all the money and power he has, he is by far one of those people you need more than he needs you.

I have also noticed his coldness on the Pyramid shows, but I have noticed since his talkshow with Mario Lopez and Danny Bonaducci he seems more friendly. Well it seems that way with me anyways

My mother in law is a flight attendant and has had many celebrity passengers over the years. While most of them have been pleasant if you ask her who the worst celebrity passenger she has met, her first answer will always be Dick Clark. While I do not remember the specific reasons why I do know that all these years later she can still not stand to watch him on TV. If he comes on she will change the channel. Bringing up the subject of Dick Clark gets her quite flustered.

Now it seems as though everyone had a problem with Dick Clark but the time I did she him he wasn't that mean. It was spring of 1987 right before Bandstand went off the air. He was in a rush to get somewhere but he didn't runover anyone he simply was saying excuse me, pardon me, sorry about that. I actually like the way he does things but then again this was 15 years ago.

I agree with you. I have a feeling that Danny Bonaduce, with his bubbly and outgoing personality, has a good influence on Dick Clark. As far as the Pyramid goes, and this may be just me, but I have found him cold, too....I will go even further to say that I find that he seems to be somewhat of a know-it-all. Example: I don't know how many times I have seen that when a contestant or celebrity says something, Dick will often say something, like asking the judges if it was O.K. Basically, it seems to me like he is trying to go over the judges' heads but again, that is how I see it, others may not agree.

I think one must separate Dick Clark the man from Dick Clark the Business man, because the nature of the Entertainment Business forces one to be tough and hard nosed, that is of course, if they want to be successful.

That is why most of the truly nice guys have either left the business, or refuse to go in this line business. I have worked at a large entertainment company and saw first hand how people act in this business, and I must say that it is more ruthless than any other business that I have seen in my life.

The Entertainment business has left many recording Artists and Actors penniless.

I think Dick Clark is an overall nice guy and he doesn't deserve to be badmouthed.

Default Dick and payola

I know people who worked behind the scenes at Dick's traveling rock and roll concerts of the fifties and early sixties, and they allege that the payola occurred.
Again, allegedly, the $$$ and gifts came from the record labels he
pushed more than any other (Cameo/Parkway, Swan and
Chancellor). In fact, tell me this isn't a conflict of interest, he allegedy had stock or part ownership in the Swan record label.

Default More Dick Clark

However, it's now been 45 years since the payola scandal.
Nobody cares anymore. It's a moot point.
