I heard that the Cowsills originally sang the theme song during the first season, but they were replaced during the second. I've only heard one version of the theme in syndication. Does anyone know which one it is?

I only have one episode on tape (the Happy Days pilot) that I taped from TV Land and it has the Cowsills version I believe. The Cowsills of course did a full version of the song that is about 2 minutes, 43 seconds long.

I recently downloaded the Cowsills version of the theme, and I don't think I've heard it used on any of the reruns. I have the "Love and the Happy Days" episode taped from TV Land, too, but the version I have (from TV Land's first day of airing) doesn't have the Cowsills theme -- it has the one sung by the "Charles Fox Singers". The Cowsills version is quite a bit different -- even the melody is slightly different. I don't think I've ever heard it used in syndicated reruns -- I wonder if Paramount just uses the Charles Fox version for all the reruns.
Then again, it's been a long time since I've seen LAS, so maybe I just don't remember seeing any of the first season episodes. |
