Ok....I'm sick and bored at home this weekend so I have to do something!! Since i have now either watched on TV or downloaded and watched every episode I thought it might be interesting to rank the episodes up to this point. I will keep this thread going by adding the new episodes in thier appropriate places as they come. I will rank the episode and then give a little explanation next to it. Here it goes (let me know what you agree and disagree with:
1. 103 "The Smarty Party": First place was clearly the toughest call but I gotta go with "The Smarty Party". This episode is everything this show can and should be....very funny but with the sweet romantic stuff at appropriate times. By the way....the dress that Alex wore on her date to open the episode is what put this one over the top. 2. 104 "The Musical": This one was tied for #1 until I took into account the hot dress so it must be good. Just another very, very well done episode that hit all the right notes throughout...unlike Alex. 3. 115 "Not in My Dress You Won't": This one might be a surprise to some people but I thought this was a very funny episode. Alex's agent was hilarious as was Henry Liu the dress designer. 4. 107 "The Last Action Queero": Steven Weber alone puts this episode this high. He was absolutely amazing as the gay action star. Rest of the cast was OK (although what I like to call "Wimpy Patrick" made a major appearance) with Cherie getting special mention for her shots at Weber's character. 5. 101 "Pilot": A very, very well done first episode. More amusing than laugh out load funny but it was consistantly amusing IMO. With the exception of Cherie I thought it did a very good job of introducing the characters and setting a good tone for the show. 6. 109 "Meet the Parent": Does anyone play domineering mother better than Susan Sullivan??? I dont think so. Loved Alex trying to cook and Betty White did a good job in her quick appearance but Sullivan definately stole the show. 7. 113 "Party of Two": Very sweet episode with a pretty funny secondary plot. The primary storyline with Alex and Patrick going away for pretty much for the romantics in the audience and I didnt mind it either. The secondary plot with Cherie and the publicist trying to find Alex was pretty solid comedy. 8. 106 "All About Evil": This episode was better than I was expecting. I have never been a big fan of Hollaween episodes for some reason but this wasnt bad. Robert Englund was very good as the Director and Patrick and Stevie trying to get the film from him was very amusing. The downside was the secondary plot between Cherie and the homeless guy which I thought was very un-funny. 9. 116 "Winners & Losers & Whiners & Boozers (1)": This gets this rating based on the first few minutes alone. I thought the bed scenes were some of the funniest moments of the show so far. On the downside, the remainder of the episode was very flat. 10. 105 "The Weekend Away": This is the episode that pissed me off the most. It started out so well and then totally went to hell. I thought this episode was hilarious up till the point when Patrick met the other boyfriends, at which point he became "Wimpy Patrick". Thankfully, the Stevie and Cherie stuff was hilarious. 11. 114 "Poison Ivy": This is the epitome of a "average" episode. Couple good moments but really nothing special, but also nothing really bad. 12. 117 "Winners & Losers & Whiners & Boozers (2): I'm pretty sure that I have this lower than most people but I just wasnt crazy about it. Just nothing I really found all that interesting or funny. 13. 110 "The Greatest Christmas Story Ever Told": Ok.....this episode was actually pretty funny but the whole Alex flipping out over the key thing really bugged me. I mean, since episode #4 these two have been telling each other how much they love each other and Alex has that kind of reaction to getting the key to Patrick's apartment??? I just didnt buy it. 14. 111 "The Heartbreak Kid": Couple of amusing moments but overall a very flat episode....just nothing special at all. 15. 112 "The Kid Stays in the Picture": Penny Marshall was by far the weakest of the "famous" guest stars of the first season.....yes Penny, you do sound whiny. I also didnt like the kid all that much. Stevie locked in the panic room is the only thing that keeps this from a even lower ranking. 16. 102 "The Second Date": Just not really much to like in this one. Jim Belushi was amusing as the dance instructor but other than that there isnt really much to recommend this episode. 17. 118 "The Peck-Peck": Just didnt like this one. Dont ask me why but I just didnt. 18. 108 "Alex Misses the Boat": Wow...this was awful. Not only was it boring but it was at the expense of my favorite character....Cherie. They could do so much with her and this is what they give us??? I was really pissed off when I finally saw this one and I'm getting more pissed off just thinking about it.

Wow, have there been eighteen episodes already ? I saw all but one of them - "The Musical" - so when I see that, then I'll try to rank'em!

You hear that sort of thing in a lot of places. That's not my milieu. Rock and roll is good-time music. I love rock. So did my parents. |
