After Patrick inadvertently interferes with Alex and Cheri's relationship, Cheri quits her position as Alex's assistant and decides to follow her dreams of restoring the family boat — with some help from her sun weary dock-mate, Suds (Brian Doyle-Murray). But Alex begins to miss her organizationally challenged sister when she hires Bonnie (Ana Gasteyer), a highly qualified but socially inept new assistant..

This episode was very uneven. There were a couple of worthy laughs but it had a lot of dull moments, too. The producers seemed to swing from one end of the pendulum to the next - after focusing heavily on one supporting character (Stevie), they then focused heavily on the other - Cheri. Not surprisingly, most of the laughs here belonged to Rhea Seehorn, but the reference to a Jefferson Airplane song ("Why don't you go ask Alex?" "When she's ten feet tall.") didn't, umm, fly.
By now the producers and writers should realize that the best way to use Cheri and Stevie is to have them interact more often. At least this episode developed Cheri more as a character. But in making these second bananas work, the writers still have a way to go. |

Well, the JA song flew with me. For people that don't know the song, I'm sure it didn't. Hell, maybe to some people that do know the song, it didn't.
I think the biggest problem with the episode was that schmaltz scene with the two little girls at the end. Ugh. Typical dreadful sitcom crap. I haven't seen IWH go there yet, and I hope they don't anymore. Other than that, a good episode. |

Still, would you rather see a bad "I'm With Her" episode or a good "It's All Relative" episode?
