Default Life with Lucy

I was very disappointed that Lucy's last series, "Life with Lucy" didn't work out.

I think given her age at the time, it might have worked better if she had been second billed on a show with a younger big name celebrity of the day as her son or daughter. Maybe John Ritter or Marilu Henner. The physical comedy that Lucy did so well in middle age unfortunately didn't work for a 75 year old.

It would have meant that she was no longer the star. But the show might have brought in a bigger audience. And the show could be written so that she could still get the laughs.

I read somewhere that "Golden Girls" premise would have worked for this show, but I don't think it would have. Lucy was quite old at this point, and the Golden Girls were only in their 50s, the age Lucy was during TLS. I don't know, but I just don't think this would have lasted long anyway, it was just the same old Lucy/Gale Gordon arguments most of the time...

Yes, that's true, the last thing i wanted to see was Gale again, but then when i watch them now, their working together is the best part of the show. I could never stand his constant YELLING at her character, but having a father figure foil was always the best part of the show. Are you sure the Golden Girls were not in their sixties, some of them late sixties even, so Lucy when fixed up in a beautiful outfit and not a jogging suit would have fit in nicely. If she was 75 and couldn't do physical comedy as well, then she should have opted for sophisticated spoken jokes instead. But as i watch the Audrey Meadows ep, i don't think it was as bad as we remember the show, i would have shot the cute kid though!

I like her last show but it wasn't as great as it could have been. Don't get me wrong, anything with Lucille Ball is great but Life with Lucy wasn't quite up to par with her other sitcoms. The show was like a rehash of Here's Lucy. They should have done something different with this series to make it stand out from the her others. Unfortunitely, that didn't happen because you had the same writers and such.

I've always wanted Lucy tapes. I've posted requests on the HL board...it's almost as if people are afraid to take money instead of a trade for legal reasons or something...

If anyone out there can help me with my request on the HL board I'd appreciate it!
