Default Gracie's Age

I just joined the Yahoo group, and was looking through the photos. I came across Gracie's tomb, and I found something odd.

It says that she lived 1902 - 1964. That would make her 61-62 years old when she died.

In the Larry King interview with Ron Burns, he said she died at 58.

So, what's right??

See? Things get so confusing. In the book George wrote I thought he said she was 58. Then I read a clipping on one of the sites that said late 60s. I`m stumped.

I read in George's book that he never knew Gracie's real age. He knew she was born before the 1906 earthquake because of a baby picture of her. And her birth certificate got lost in the earthquake. But, there are parts in the book when he gives her an age.
In the Hundred Year Dash they say she was born in 1908 and later on in the book they say she and George are 10 years apart. George was born in 1896, that would make them 12 years apart!
Ugh! How confusing.Maybe this was all just a way to keep Gracie ageless.

During Hollywood's Golden Age, it was common for actors and actresses to lie about their ages. Sometimes they would add years to their age so they could get more "adult" roles. Or they would shave years off their age when they got older so they would seem more youthful. Maybe Gracie did one or both of these during her career.

The excuse about losing her birth certificate in the earthquake didn't hold because Gracie's mother was still alive all she had to do was ask her mother.

Gracie Allen was born in 1897. That has been confirmed on IMDB.com and other sources. Come on, kids. Gracie knew when she was born.

How do we know that date is correct? Gracie was probably a bit vain and didn't want her true age released...

George said he'd ask her and she'd say that her Birth Certificate got lost in the BIG San Fran Earthquake.
"But how could you have been born in 1907 when the quake took place in 1906?"-George
"That was somequake!"-Gracie.
