In my opinion, last night, I watched WWE "Raw" and I know that TNN had changed to Spike TV. I know that Spike TV is still the "First Network for Men". For years, TNN used to be a channel for country related shows and music. If you know about that channel, here is a brief history of TNN as featured in the book "The Complete Directory to Prime Time Networks and Cable TV Shows" by Tim Brooks & Earle Marsh.
TNN Lauched: 3/7/83 Ended: 8/10/03 TV's home for country music and Middle American values, the Nashville Network provides programming long ignored by the big, urban broadcast networks. Adult music and variety shows dominate the schedule, although daytime and weekends bring a range of how-to-shows and hunting, fishing and racing. The mother church of country music is the "Grand Ole Opry" (now showing on CMT) in Nashville, and its long-running Saturday night musical extravaganza has had a spot on the TNN schedule since the network was founded. Other standbys have included talk-show host Ralph Emery ("Nashville Now"); Lorraine Crook and Charlie Chase, country's answer to Regis and Katie-Lee ("Music City Tonight"); and the Statler Brothers, whose Saturday-night variety hour following the "Opry" echoes the glory days of Ed Sullivan. Dance shows ("Club Dance", "Dancin' in the Hot Spots"), which look a little like cross-generational versions of "American Bandstand", are also popular. In 1988 the network introduced the annual "TNN Viewer's Choice Awards". Although most of the network's is now original, it also offers occasional reruns, most notably the popular syndicated series "Hee Haw". TNN is basically adult-oriented in its programmingm, so in 1991 it aquired a small country music video channel called CMT (Country Music Television, launched in 1983), which now operates for younger fans. TNN first reached more than a half of all US Television homes in May, 1989, and its principlal original evening series after that date are listed in this book under their individual titles. That was from the 1999 edition. Here's the one I made up. In 2001, TNN switched their formats to provide more adult-oriented viewers including "Real TV", "Star Trek: TNG", "WWE Raw", "The A-Team" and among many to become the NEW TNN. On August 11 2003, TNN becomes Spike TV. How about that! |

I never really cared that much about TNN and I never will.
The only good part about the entire channel's history programming was when they added the classic sitcoms (Alice, The Real McCoys, Newhart, Taxi, The Wonder Years, WKRP In Cincinnatti, Diff'rent Strokes and last but certainly not least . . . Three's Company. to their line-up. It's too bad that Laverne & Shirley never had a chance on there.

I miss the days of the "old" TNN wnen they ran shows like The Waltons and Dukes of Hazzard. Then it was a unique network showing programs nobody else was. Now its just another channel showing the same trash as every other channel.

I never watch it anymore since they alienated fans of wholesome shows like The Waltons. |
