View Full Version : A- Rod to the Yankees?

Newsday and the New York Post reports that there are serious discussion between the Texas Rangers and the New York Yankess involving A-Rod. A-Rod would play third base for the Yankees. Alfonso Soriano and Jose Contrarez would go to the Rangers.

I think this trade is very unlikely, but as a Yankee fan I am enjoying the fact that the Red Sox fans are going crazy right now.

Oh, for... Let's see if I've got all this straight: The Rangers were in talks to trade A-Rod to the Red Sox. Then they nix the trade talk and make him Team Captain to make it seem like he'll be sticking around a while. And now there's trade talks with the Yankees? Would somebody mind explaining to me how this makes any sense?

Well I think why the Yankees are all of the sudden interested in A-Rod, is the Aaron Boone injury. The Yankees are the only team that can take A-Rod's salary. When the Rangers named A - Rod team captain, they Yankees decided they did not need an upgrade at third base, but George just changed his mind.

If this trade happens, I am concerned who will replace Contralez. I always take pitching over hitting. But A-Rod might be a exeption to the rule. I only hope the Yankees are not thinking of getting Maddox. Maddox is an NL pitcher, he tries that corner crap in the AL especially against the Red Sox he will be creambed. To make it in the AL you must have a hard fast ball.

Maddox is a wuss.
He pitches like 6 innings at most and is pampered like a baby.
When does have over 100 pitches?

Actually, the Yankees can deal with that. They have good middle relief and have had their share of pampered stars.

I'm very excited about this possibility(even though I think it is a long shot) Don't be surprised if you see Boston react and try to get back in this thing.

I have no problem with Maddax's pitching only 6 innings. I just don't think his style of nibbling the corners works in the American League, especially against the Red Sox. But the Yankees could deal with that from a 4 starter. As long as Brown does not get hurt.

I was talking about ARod. I don't want Maddux on the Yanks. If anything, we need a reliable lefty in the rotation. Maybe in June or July, someone like Al Leiter will be available.

I know you were talking about A-Rod, I was responding to dlemond. You have a point Brian Damge, pitching is always avalable at the trading deadline.

Since the Mets are apparently clueless (I'm a Met fan by the way)
they probably will trade Leiter- even to the Yankees, though the Yankees would never do anything to help the Mets, the Mets are just still lost.

LOL every now again we trade with eachother. And since Leiter will be a free agent after this year, he probably will be dealt.

Breaking News, according to Newsday.com the A-Rod to the Yankees trade is a done deal. The Yankees and Rangers agreed to a deal is principal in which the Yankees get A-Rod and the Rangers get Soriano and a couple of other players. There are still minor details to be worked out. No word on if Contraez is involved in the deal.

This is just a report, but since David Well isn't involved (deal in principal doesn't mean **** when Wells is involved), it looks like the deal is done. I am an excited Yankee fan, especially if we don't have to give up Contraez, even if we do, I am still excited.

If it's complete (which I think it will be), the Yanks have a great line-up:

CF/DH Lofton, SS Jeter, 3B A-Rod, RF Sheffield, 1B/DH Giambi, DH/CF Bernie, C Posada, LF Matsui, and 2B A. Boone (he's injured, so then Enrique Wilson or Cairo I guess, they brought Homer Bush back, maybe him).

Not to menion Tony Clark and Ruben Sierra on the bench and maybe Carlos Lee will sign next week.

As for starting pitching, it's still solid: Mussina, Vasquez, K. Brown, Contreras, and Leiber.

The bullpen seems better than last year: Flash Gordon, Heredia, Quantrill, Karsay, and of course, Mariano Rivera.

Aaron Boone screws the Red Soxs again. If Boone does not get hurt, this A-Rod deal never happens.

Maddux? A Wuss? Are you f***ing kidding me? 16 strait seasons with 15+ wins. Nobody can top that. Most older guys start to play less and less after a long, and in this case, a very long and successful career. Nobody fields better than Maddux does, either.

Swimfan85

thats a blow, but oh well, personally everyone is talking about how the red sox would responde, but they arent...they are pretty content with their team right now and the sox have a very strong line up still and I don't think the yankees have that scary of a line-up a lot of the players are either overrated (Jeter) and injury prone (Brown)

Yes, Maddox will not pitch beyond a certain number and is basically a hired gun at this point.

There are sportswriters who have their gripes with Maddox even though he is a hall of fame guy.

My guess is these sports writers haven't pitched 4000 innings of pro baseball. But I pretty much have to defend the guy...he's practically my cousin. Almost.

Also, its pitching that wins games, and the yankees dont have the best rotation...

I don't think the Yankees are done dealing. That sounds crazy, but I wouldn't be surprised if they picked up another pitcher.

Besides Pedro, Red Sox don't have a killer rotation either. Sure, Schilling is good, but can he stay healthy?

I still give the Yankee starting staff an edge over Boston's.

Swimfan85 I have to compliment you, you have heart. But you are in denial if you say the Yankee lineup is not scary. The Yankee starting rotation is a concern, but the lineup is something to be reckoned with. And our bullpin is improved.

I am sure the Yankees will pick up a lefty pitcher at the trading deadline. If only they resigned Pettie, than I would have no doubt that the Yankees would at least repeat as AL champions.

Brian Damage

Yeah, the loss of both Pettitte and Wells killed us, but I still think the Yanks will go out and get themselves a lefty.

alright sure, Schilling is old but he hasnt had trouble staying healthy, last year when he was out, it was a hand injury, and if you look at how many innings he has pitched over the past years, you will realize that they are really high and both Wakefield and Lowe are very good pitchers, so the sox have an edge over Yankees...I would say they are even at the very least

how bout brown staying healthy?

Brian Damage
02-16-2004, 11:12 AM
There's no question that the Yankees starting rotation is a big question mark. Kevin Brown is very good, but can he stay healthy. Javier Vasquez has got great stuff, but so did Jeff Weaver and look what happened to him. Jose Contreras is unproven and Jon Leiber is coming off Tommy John surgery.

The Kevin Brown trade was at worse, an addition by subtraction trade, because we got rid of Jeff Weaver.

ARod said he will wear #13 for his uniform number.

As a Mets fan, I actually got ill when I heard A-rod was going to the Yankees. It's gotten to the point where I'm disgusted by everything they do. The Mets can't pull the trigger on anything worthwhile since the Piazza trade. They shut the door on Alex three, four years ago, they couldn't get Lou Pinella as manager, they didn't get Vlad Guerrero. The Mets suck so bad, the Tigers go on a win streak the last week of last season so the Mets could still hold on to that "most losses in a season" record. I hope fewer fans show up at Shea just to send a message to the owners not to be so damn cautious all the time. You'd think they get tired of watching the Yanks go to the playoffs year after year.

Watching them introduce A-Rod as a Yankee. Do you guys think it'd be wrong for a Mets fan to switch allegiances and become a Yankees fan??

Swimfan85

I was watching around the horn for a little and someone brought up a good point that look at the LA Lakers this season, they went out and bought superstars, spending so much, and look at their standings they are doing better then some teams 5th in the West, but nothing superb, so it all has to do with chemistry, and whether people can stay healthy (...and how bout outta court too..)

I agree, having A-Rod doesn't lock up any championships......................but it doesn't hurt either. ;)

That's not even close to true. The Yankees payroll isn't even 190 million--it's between like 170-190 I think. They are paying A-Rod 16 million per year, Texas is paying the rest.

alright baseball gets ridiculous and the best sport is football because of the salary cap, which enables teams one year to suck and the next year to be winners, until something like that happens, teams like Boston, LA, New York Yankees are going to load up the payroll and teams like Detriot will always be in a rut

How about if I'm disguusted with the Mets and am tired of rooting for them only to end up disappointed again? I figure if I follow the Yanks, I'd be able to stay interested in baseball throughout the season instead of holding on to interest in a last place team. I'm so down on the Mets it's not even funny.

Ok, so let's see: 190 million dollars per player @ 25 players. The Yankee payroll is $4,750,000,000. Where do you get your facts from???

Yeah, I can definitely understand how you feel. How do you think us Sox fans feel? Letting that ALC slip through our fingers like that last season... oh well. There's always next year :(

What kills me is the '00 Subway Series. How the Mets got into that, and then fell to last place the next Spring literally blows my mind.

It's crushing to see them blow it in the end but I think that's better than just being a lousy, out of the hunt team most seasons.

That's why he has low pitch counts, not because he is "a wuss". He pitches smart and he pitches to win. He puts the ball over the plate and walks very few batters.

Yeah, but Little should have put his foot down and told Pedro to get the hell out.. I mean it was kind of obvious he was burning out for the day.

But for the record, Little should never have been fired. That was wrong. The Front Office was trying to hide it by saying he was let go of for various reasons, but we all know it was that one.
