It ALWAYS finds only tracking cookies every time I run it...but never any regkeys. I'm pretty good about keeping this comp running smoothly :)

(Story from 2/27/04)

HIGH SCHOOL EVACUATED AFTER BOMB THREAT
By Louise Oleson
Journal Staff Writer

Administrators called for a complete evacuation of Devils Lake High School yesterday after a late-morning bomb threat was called into the school.

Nearly all on-duty Devils Lake police officers and firemen, as well as members of the Lake Region Ambulance, Ramsey County Sheriff's Department, Bureau of Crime Investigation and Highway Patrol responded to help students, staff and teachers to safety at the Lake Area Career and Technology Center next door and to search the building.

School officials received the call at 9:55 a.m. from an unidentified male caller who threatened that there was a bomb somewhere in the Devils Lake High School building. Immediate steps were taken to ensure the safety of the students, faculty and staff of the school. The facility was evacuated so the police could search the building.

"The first priority was everyone's safety," said Superintendent Steve Swiontek.

Parents were alerted to pick up their children because school would be dismissed for the remainder of the day.

The main office of the Vo-Tech Center was a flurry of activity as each high school teacher verified a roster of their classes, each student must be accounted for, who was absent at the beginning of the day, who had gotten a little lost in the move over from the high school.

On the office wall hangs a plaque with the statement, "Everyone in our district has a right to a learning environment where he or she feels respected, protected and safe. To provide such an environment, violence is not tolerated."

Administrators, teachers and staff were all working together to try to provide that environment of protection and safety the plaque spoke of in the midst of the confusion and tension accompanying the circumstances.

Principal Steve Heyd directed the high school's temporary headquarters in the Vo-Tech's main office. "It is important that we take the time to make certain every student is accounted for. We ask for your patience," he announced over the intercom to the waiting parents who had come to collect their children.

Once each class roster was verified, each teacher's class was dismissed to leave alphabetically by the teacher's last name. Parents lined up outside the south entrance to the Vo-Tech Center to wait as their child's class was dimissed, each name checked off the list as they left.

Buses transported remaining students to the Middle School and beyond.

Swiontek was upset, "This was extremely disruptive. When we find out who did this, he she or they will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law."

In a press conference held at 1 p.m. at the Devils Lake Police Department, Police Chief Bruce Kemmet explained that this is not a prank, it is a crime, "The last three who did this here were caught and charged with a class C Felony, terrorizing, a penalty of five years in jail and a fine of $5,000."

Kemmet reassured the media, "The search is completed and we found nothing. School officials will probably restrict access to the building for a few hours and then let people go back in and retrieve their stuff. I imagine the games scheduled for tonight will go on."

He, too, pointed out how disruptive this situation was, "Look at the number of lives and equipment involved."

"It is just terrible," commented long-time art teacher at DLHS, Robert Moore, reacting to the inconvenience of the situation, "And now I have to get over to the middle school for classes this afternoon, I don't get to go home like everybody else. I'll have to come back later when they let us and put away the students' artwork, we had to just leave it lying out."

Chief Kemmet asks for help from the community in discovering who committed this crime. Call Crimestoppers at 662-0739 if you have any information that may help police find and convict the individual or individuals behind this act.

*snap*

Crap. I just remembered.

I told my dad (when he took me to school) that tonight would be a good time for him to come and take me to eat out for supper so we could finish up planning the trip... he said he'd come to get me between 5 to 6...And "Yes, Dear" is on at 7. Fortunately, I'm taping it (I need to double check to make sure it's taping at the correct time and channel when I get home). But still. It's not the same as watching it "live", if you know what I mean...That is, as it originally airs.

Oh well..........

I just found out my 11am class got cancelled today so I'm here in the library to putter around until it's time for my 1pm class, with no way to get home now because both my parents are at work and I won't have enough fare to get home if I phoned for a cab, since my house is clear across town. Yay.

Whenever a class gets out early or if it is cancelled, I like to bring a book and go to the library. I'm reading The Runaway Jury.

Well, I'm home now from eating out....I went to sit down to watch my "Yes, Dear" episode AND IT HAD THE GODDAMN ****ING RED WEATHER MARQUEE PRACTICALLY IN THE CENTER OF THE SCREEN!!!!!!   What happened to the days when it was RIGHT on the top of the screen? Have they no decency?! So that turned me off completely from watching it. :mumble:

Oh, lordy... I've had that happen to me -- I'm trying to watch a show and all of a sudden the entire bottom half of the screen is covered in storm warnings; I don't just mean the crawl at the bottom, I'm talking maps and all. I really wish they wouldn't do that...

YES!!!!!! Why can't they do it during the commercial breaks, anyway? The way things are those days, commercials are longer than the actual program itself...so it would work out very well, don't you think?

For all this ****** weather they're putting us through, they better goddamn cancel school tomorrow. I'm gonna blow up at someone if they keep playing the stupid, repititive Storm Watch marquees and maps OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN!!!! DIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIE.

I'm still pissed nobody notified me beforehand that my classes had been cancelled. It was TOTALLY pointless coming to school anyway.

Ahhhhhh! I'm having a flashback! What was the name of this one gameshow they had in the 80's/90's? Ummm. AHHHHHHHHH! I just remembered this game all of a sudden, and I can't quite describe it...

PZelda

It reminded me of Supermarket Sweep, but not done in that style...One of their common games was trying to guess the price on a bunch of products they had set up on a long table. If they guessed the price correctly, they got the corresponding product...They had to play a bunch of really wacky games, and the pictures and logos of the gameshow's sponsors were ALL OVER the walls...I know a few of them had doors where they would bring out a prize from that sponsor.

ARGH. What was this game?! I want to remember! :o

I knew those descriptions wouldn't be enough. ARGH. Let's see, they had two of those table thingies (a la the contestant tables on "Jeopardy!") right next to each other, and they had two couples come on....one was dressed in blue and the other in red..I don't remember who the host was, but it was a man. There was a flight of stairs behind the contestants that sometimes they would go up on or the models from behind the wall of whatever sponsor would come out of and go down the stairs on.

Hershey park that sounds like a lot of fun; I believe when I was a little girl who stopped at a Hershey factory on our way to Philadelphia

I *USED* to be three hours away from Winnipeg...but not anymore...It's near the NE part of North Dakota, and I live in the south central part of the state now. :) So I would estimate about 6-7 hours away now.

Inspector Gadget? Or the SMB show? I saw both when I was younger. IG was on Nickelodeon and SMB was with the..um. Captain N TV show in the early 90's, I think.

I edited it because I thought that you would think it was Mama's Family on DVD. All I posted was the link and have the subject title say "Oh Allison." I knew you were a fan of Nintendo and I thought it would be nice to tell you. I didn't want to mislead you into thinking it was a Mama's Family DVD set.
