View Full Version : There was only one Jefferson that changed once they left All in the Family, and that
TVFactFan 02-06-2004, 12:32 AM was Lionel. On All in the Family he was respectful and down to earth in the presence of Archie and his parents, but those first season of the Jeffersons he was
Arrogant
Disrespectful
Shallow
Materialistic
Was this the Lionel Jefferson we never saw once he left the Bunkers House on All in the Family?-LOL I never saw Lionel being disrespectful on All in the Family.
Dennis3264 02-07-2004, 01:25 PM He wasn't disrespectful AT ALL in season 2.

He wasn;'t on the Jeffersons in season 2. He did not reappear until season 6

He wasn't disrespectful AT ALL in season 2. That was because Damon Evans took over in the 2nd season. And it was just in the episode,"Lionel the Playboy" is where he was disrespectful towards George and Louise.

He was disrepectful toward Louise's Uncle Ward and in the Episode Like Father Like Son.
AtlantaBravesFan29 02-07-2004, 10:30 PM Yes,but not only was he disrespectful to Uncle Ward,George and Louise, but also to Jenny as well. She told him off as well by telling him to go to h***.

Don't forget Mother Jefferson-LOL
AtlantaBravesFan29 02-07-2004, 10:38 PM I wasn't going to mention Mother Jefferson's character because I knew that you didn't like her.
marvin g 02-12-2004, 11:12 PM I never saw him respectful on All in the family! Especially to Archie! He talk down to Archie everytime he said something stupid which he should have done since Archie was ignorant so and so!! I think after he got on The Jeffersons his character lost direction and I don't even wanna talk about that second Lionel !UUUGGGHH!

He always respected Archie. That's why Archie like Lionel so much. Archie was unaware that Lionel was making a fool out of him. But Lionel always gave Archie respect.
Here is a prime exmple.
"Can I call you Uncle Archie"-LOL
Dr. Jazz 02-13-2004, 05:34 PM I think what really hurt the character of Lionel was having Mike Evans play him, then Damon Evans, then Mike Evans Again. Both actors played Lionel in their own way, that it didn't seem like they were even playing the same character.

I never saw the point of brining in a different guy to play lionel when Mike Evans had played the character for 4 years.

Lionel didn't tell Jenny to go to h***, she told him that and slap him after he told her to run along in the episode in season 1 "Lionel the Playboy".

How can you admit Lionel was making a fool of Archie and say he was respectful? I admit he wasn't disrespectful and loud as George was that's a different style.

He made a fool out of Archie without Archie knowing. Which means he was giving him respect because he was not obvious about it. Now if he was like Mike Stivic then that would be Disrepectful. Lionel was the complete opposite of Mike when communicating with Archie.
marvin g 02-17-2004, 09:33 PM I still disagree! He was disrespectful of Archie! Mike and Gloria knew he was but thought it was funny that he was getting away with it. So Archie was not as smart as HE thought he was not to know Lionel was talking down to him. Now he did the same thing to his daddy but George caught on most of the time. :)

Lionel was still more mellow on All in the Family than he was on the first season of the Jeffersons.
jon123 02-26-2004, 12:55 AM I have requested this before, and it still hasn't happened, so I will again. Mike Evans WAS Lionel, Damon Evans was a temporary replacement. Could we please change the picture on the board to one with Mike Evans in it? I saw a picture with just George, Louise, and Lionel on another board that would be perfect here. Mike Evans was horribly underused in the first season of the Jeffersons and had he been used more he may have never left. And if Lionel was going to be a supporting character anyway, its too bad they couldn't make a deal for Mike Evans to appear in just six episodes or so a year instead of bringing Damon Evans in, who was a fine actor but just was not Lionel. This also may have been the reason we never saw the Bunkers visit, it would have been weird to see Damon Evans throw the bull at Archie when in fact these two actors had never played together before.

I just didn't understand how Louise and George could RETURN to All in the Family as a Guest in 1978 and 1979 but the Bunkers could never appear on the Jeffersons.

Especially when you consider the trend later in the 90's when shows cross over for no reason as part of stunt nights. Louise and Edith were best friends when they were neighbors so for the Bunkers never to visit the Jeffersons made no sense. Edith would have dragged Archie along, and a Archie/Florence meeting would have been priceless! Once again, it may partly be it would have been weird to see Archie interplay with a different actor playing Lionel when we are used to seeing him play off Mike Evans.

I could see Archie saying this to George if he had walked in their Eastside APT-"NICE PLACE YOU HAVE HERE JEFFERSON"-LOL
