It’s January 5th, 1979. All the students from West San Francisco High School had just returned from Christmas vacation. Jinny Exstead is a 15 year old freshman. Her best friend, Magda Ramirez, is a 16 year old freshman. Then there was their good friend Candace DeLorenzo who is a 15 year old freshman. Her boyfriend, Nate Basso, is a 16 year old sophomore. Jinny’s boyfriend, Jack, is the star quarterback for West San Francisco. He is a 17 year old senior. Stacey Reynolds, a 16 year old junior, is trying her best to keep Jack from Jinny so she can have Jack all to herself. It is now lunchtime and the group is trying to find a table to sit at and eat.

Jinny- So Mag, how was your Christmas?
Magda- Boring. Lily of course stole every single piece of clothing that I got.
Jinny- Hey at least you get clothes. I know my mom means to but she doesn’t go Christmas shopping. My Dad does but he doesn’t know anything about clothes.
Magda- Yeah. Your mom will come around.
Jinny- I hope so. So CD, what about you?
CD- *Giggles from Nate kissing her ear* Oh what did you say?
Jinny- What did you get for Christmas?
CD- *Shows her wrist* Nate gave it to me.
Magda- Wow .. that’s gorgeous!
CD- Isn’t it? *Then got back to what Nate and her were doing*
Jack-*Sits at table* Hey guys. May I join you?
Magda- Sure Jack.
Jack- Thanks. So how’s my Jinny girl today? *He said and tried to kiss her*
Jinny- *Pulls away* Not in front of them.
Jack- *Felt hurt but understood* Ok. I will see you guys later then. *Left*
Magda- What’s the matter with you?
Jinny- Nothing why?
Magda- You keep trying to push Jack away from you?
Jinny- I just don’t like him kissing me in front of you guys.
Magda- Oh please get real. Look at these two. *Points to CD and Nate daydreaming about making out*
Jinny- Good point. It’s just .. never mind.
Magda- What?
Stacy- Yeah what? I would certainly like to know.
Jinny- Go away Stacy. Isn’t there an ambulance waiting for you to chase it?
Stacy- Oh I am chasing something. Just not an ambulance.
Magda- Would you mind getting lost?
Stacy- I have other places to go anyway.
Jinny- Like going to get a lobotomy?
Stacy- Very funny. I bet you won’t find this funny. *Shows wrist*
Jinny- Any reason why I should care?
Stacy- No but I will let you guess who gave it to me. *Walks away*
Jinny- That slut!
Magda- Calm down. You aren’t sure it was Jack who gave her the bracelet.

Do you remember the "Everlasting Love" version from... I dunno who was that again? PJ&Duncan or something? Or Caught In The Act??? I don't remember LOL, but that came out when I switched schools, and one of my new friends there totally was into them and kept on listening to it all the time... oh yeah... those were the days....

The rest of the day went alright. Stacy spent the rest of the day showing off her bracelet from “Jack”. Magda came home from school with Jinny. It was 6 o’clock and time for dinner. Casey kept staring at Magda. He has had a crush on her since she was in 7th grade. Jinny found it rather funny. John Sr. and John Jr. of course talked about guns and stuff. Jinny’s mother did not join them for dinner. She ate in her room. After dinner Jinny and Magda went into her bedroom to talk.

Magda- Alright now what is it that you want to tell me?
Jinny- Well...wait a minute. *Gets up and opens the door. John Jr. stood there* Get out of my doorway John.
John Jr.- Fine. I didn’t want to listen to your girl stuff anyway! *Storms downstairs*
Jinny- *Slams door* Well that takes care of him.
Magda- Alright. Would you please tell me already? I am dying!!!!!
Jinny- Okay. Now I am not certain but I think I am pregnant.
Magda- What!? Oh my God!! You are only 15 years old!!
Jinny- Yeah tell that to my biological clock.
Magda- Is it Jack’s?
Jinny- Of course it is Jack’s!!! Who else would it be??
Magda- You’re right. I’m sorry.
Jinny- It’s ok.
Magda- You said you aren’t sure?
Jinny- No I’m not. I know that I am 2 weeks late.
Magda- Well that can be from stress. Have you bought a test?
Jinny- Yeah. *Gets her book bag and pulls out the test* I stole it from a drug store two days ago.
Magda- Why did you steal it?
Jinny- I didn’t actually want people seeing me buy that thing.
Magda- True.
Jinny- Plus I left money and a note. I even left a tip so I didn’t do anything wrong.
Magda- Ok I believe you. When are you going to take it.
Jinny- Well I will go into the bathroom now. Will you keep a lookout?
Magda- Sure.
Jinny did her thing in the bathroom and she came out and Magda ran into Jinny’s bedroom after Jinny.
Jinny- Ok now it says to wait 2 minutes. *Sets alarm clock for 2 minutes from then* *1 minute has already passed*
Magda- Why do they make people wait for these things?
Jinny- Cause if you don’t they won’t be accurate.
Magda- They aren’t totally accurate anyway.
Jinny- Yes they are. See it says on the box 100% accurate.
Magda- Not all sticks are-- *Alarm clock goes off*
Jinny- Well, I guess it is ready.
Magda- Yeah I guess so.
Jinny- You go over.
Magda- ME!? No way, you go.
Jinny- Fine. *Went over to the test* It is negative.
Magda- *Big sigh* Wow thank god.
Jinny- *Sigh* Yeah, thank god.
Magda- What’s wrong?
Jinny- Nothing. Nothing at all.

Jinny- Don’t feel too well.
Magda- You probably just need a good nights sleep. Just don’t eat anymore of your dad’s cooking! *They both laughed and went to sleep*.

Magda- *Thinks to herself* That's Spanish. *Leaves for the bathroom* Jinny? Are you in here?
Jinny- Yeah. *Flushes the toilet*
Magda- Jinny I know you probably didn't know the sentence in French but you could have tried.
Jinny- No Mag I'm serious. I really don't feel well.
Magda- Do you want me to go get the nurse?
Jinny- No I will go down there myself. Thanks.

Jinny started walking down to the nurses office and Magda watched her to make sure she got there all right. Jinny made it halfway down to the nurse's office when she passed out in the hallway. Magda ran to her and then ran to the nurse.

Magda- Nurse Hammowitz, my friend passed out in the hallway! You've got to come help her!
Nurse- Okay I'm coming.

Jinny woke up an hour later in the nurses office.

Jinny- What happened?
Nurse- You fainted in the hallway on your way down here. Your friend told me that you have been throwing up for the passed two days.
Jinny- Yeah just the flu or something.
Nurse- Well, I think you are pregnant. When was your last period?
Jinny- A little over a month ago but I took a pregnancy test last night and I am not pregnant.

Jinny- You need to take me with you. We have the same doctor it's no big deal.
Magda- OK why do you want to come with me to the doctors?
Jinny- Because I took another test and it came out positive.
Magda- WHAT!?
Jinny- SHHHHSH!!
Magda- Alright you can come with me. We need to get to the bottom of this.

Magda- Alright you can come with me. We need to get to the bottom of this.

That afternoon, Magda had her mom arrange an appointment for a checkup for her. Magda told her mom she would be fine going by herslef. She told Jinny to come along so her doctor could help out. So they went. They waited in the waiting room for 20 minutes and then her name was called. They waited again in the room for another 10 minutes. Then the doctor came in.

Dr. Connors- Hi Magda. How are you doing?
Magda- I am doing ok.
Dr. Connors- Who is your friend?
Magda- This is my best friend Jinny. Jinny, this is Dr. Connor.
Dr. Connors- Very nice to meet you Jinny.
Jinny- Likewise.
Dr. Connors- So Magda, what brings you here?
Magda- Well, I made this appointment for Jinny. She might be pregnant and she couldn't go to her regular doctor or else they would tell her father.
Dr. Connors- What symptoms has she been feeling?
Magda- Well she--
Jinny- I am here you know!!
Dr. Connors- *Laughs* I'm sorry. What makes you think you are pregnant?
Jinny- Well nothing but I took a home pregnancy test and it was negative. I fainted in school and the nurse had me take a test and it came out positive.
Dr. Connors- Ok well how about do some blood work. That is 100% accurate. We will know for sure.
Jinny- Ok.

They did the bloodwork.

Dr. Connors- Ok we will have the bloodwork back within the next few hours. Do you want me to call you or Magda?
Jinny- Me. I will give you my number but ask for me not anyone else.
Dr. Connors- You got it.

A few hours later, the phone rang. Jinny was listening to music and didn't hear it so John Jr answered it.

John- Hello?
Dr. Connor- Hi is Jinny Exstead there?
John- Who is this?
Dr. Connors- This is--Mrs Connors.
John- Ok hang on. *put the phone down on the table*

John walked up to Jinnys bedroom and knocked on the door.

Magda- Hello?
Jinny- Mag, it's me.
Magda- Hi Jin.
Jinny- Can you meet me at the park.
Magda- I'm sure I can. Why what's wrong?
Jinny- I will tell you when we get there. See you there.
Magda- Bye.

About 15 minutes later, they both showed up at the park.

Magda- Now what's wrong?
Jinny- The Doctor called.
Magda- Oh no.
Jinny- Yeah.
Magda- Jinny I am so sorry.
Jinny- I don't know what I am going to do.
Magda- You could always have an abortion.
Jinny- No Mag! I cant. The thought of killing an innocent baby is just--no.
Magda- Adoption?
Jinny- That is an option. I don't know if I want to do that though. I think I am going to keep it.
Magda- Jinny you are only 15 years old! Are you sure you can raise a baby?
Jinny- Of course I am not sure. I don't know what else to do. I guess I have to talk to my father first.
Magda- Good idea.
Jinny- Oh God he is going to kill me.
Magda- Want me to go with you?

John- I should have paid more attention to you. I know I am with your brothers more than you and I deeply apologize for that.
Jinny- It's ok Dad. I understand.
John- It still doesn't make it right.
Jinny- So are you going to kill me?
John- No. I am not thrilled but I can make my peace with it. So I guess we should make an appointment with a doctor huh? *Smiles*

The next day, it was lunch time and Magda and Jinny had just sat down.

CD- Hey guys. How is your day going?
Magda- Ugh. We have that officer coming in today for the DARE program.
Nate- Do you know who it is?
Magda- No idea. Some woman cop.
Nate- Woman huh?
CD- *Slaps his arm*
Nate- But no one is better than my woman.
Jinny- Nice save.

When they went back into their classroom, it was time for the cop to come and teach DARE. She came in. She had red hair and was tall and thin. All the guys thought she was very pretty.

Kate- Hello. My name is Lieutenant McCafferty. You can call me Kate. I am here to teach you the DARE program.
Jinny- *raised her hand*
Kate- Yes?
Jinny- So what did you do to get to do this?
Kate- I don't understand what you mean?
Jinny- Well only the cops who have done something wrong get the plum assignments like this. *Everyone laughed but Kate*
Kate- What is your name?
Jinny- Jinny Exstead.
Kate- Is your father--
Jinny- John Exstead of the San Francisco Police Department yes.
Kate- Well now I understand the attitude problem. May I continue to teach the class?
Jinny- As soon as you answer my quesion.
Kate- You are really begining to annoy me.
Jinny- Big woop now answer the question. Please.
Kate- *sigh* Fine. I was mouthing off to my Captain. Keep up your attitude you will be nowhere in life.
Jinny- Like I care. *Mumbles under her breath* I could be a drunken slut and it wouldn't matter to me.
Kate- What was that Exstead?
Jinny- Nothing. Continue with the class.

Magda- That's great!

Jinny went into her house to tell her mother about her grade. For Jinny that was a pretty good score and her mother loved that. When she went in, she expected her mother to be in the kitchen or something but she couldn't find her. She called out her name but there was no answer. She started to walk down the hallway and saw her feet in the bathroom. She ran over to the bathroom door and saw her mother there and screamed her head off. There was blood all over the floor and her mother layed there unconsious. When she screamed she heard the front door close. It was John Jr. When he saw what had happened, he quickly called 911 and then his father. She just stood there staring at her mother. She couldn't believe it. She knew her mother had problems but not big enough to kill herself. She was so scared. Her mother was gone. Finally cops knocked on the front door and then came rushing. Who would be standing there but Lieutenant McCafferty.

Kate- Jinny? What happened?
Jinny- *Crying* I don't know. I came in and found her like this.
Kate- *Hugged her* It's ok.
Officer- We found this under the bathtub.
Jinny- That's my Dad's gun. He must have left it here. *Continues to cry and holds on to Kate*
Kate- Ok bag it so we can take prints. Jinny, this was a suicide. Where is your Dad?
Jinny- He is still at work. My brother called him after the police.
Kate- Ok he will be home soon. Jinny, I am so sorry.
Jinny- Me too.

John Sr came rushing through the door.

John- Kate, what happened!?!?! Louise!!! *Rushed over to her*
Kate- Jinny came in and found her like this. I'm sorry John.
John- I don't understand. She would never do this. Never.

They started to put her in a bag and Jinny couldn't watch that.

Jinny- Excuse me. *Ran out of the room to the garbage bin and threw up*
Kate- I will go check on her. *Found Jinny getting sick* Are you okay?
Jinny- Let's see I just found my mother dead in our bathroom. No okay doesn't fit that catagory. *Crys more* I'm sorry. I rushed home to tell her my Algebra grade and I find my mother bleeding on the floor. I can't believe this is happening.
Kate- I know. Why don't you go back to your father. You both need each other right now.
Jinny- Lieutenant McCafferty?
Kate- Yeah?
Jinny- Thanks. And I'm sorry for those comments before in the classroom.
Kate- *Giggled* That's ok. I used to be the same way in school. You remind me what I used to be.
Jinny- Well I am going to go to my Dad.

About two week went by and everyone in the house was still very surprised about what had happened. John was doing his best to be there for Jinny. Today was the day of her doctor's appointment.

Jinny- Dad, are you ready to go?
John- Go where?
Jinny- Today is my doctor's appointment.
John- Oh is that today?
Jinny- Well I reminded you about 6 days ago, 5 days ago, twice 2 days ago, and 5 times yesterday so you wouldn't forget.
John- I am so sorry honey but I am swamped with work.
Jinny- I see. I will have someone else take me.
John- I will go next time I PROMISE.
Jinny- Sure..*Walked out the house*

She knew Magda couldn't go with her and she hated going by herself. She hated the idea but there was only one person to call.

Jinny- *Pulled out her cell* Hello. It's Jinny...Yes. Can you come over here? I need a favor...I will explain more when you get here...Thank you so much...See you soon. Bye.

About 20 minutes later, someone pulled up into Jinny's driveway. She waited outside. She got out of her car.

Kate- Hey Jinny. What's wrong?
Jinny- I need to ask you a huge favor.
Kate- Go ahead.
Jinny- Can you drive me to the doctors? My dad is to busy with work.
Kate- Sure. Are you ok? Nothing is wrong I hope.
Jinny- No I just need a check up.
Kate- Ok hop in.

They finally got to the doctors office in time. Jinny went in quick and got out quick. Kate was about to take her home when Jinny spoke up.

Jinny- Lieutenant McCafferty, can we go someplace to talk?
Kate- Sure. Where do you want to go?
Jinny- The park maybe?
Kate- Sure.

They got to the park. Jinny seemed very nervous and Kate could tell.

Kate- So what do you want to talk to me about.
Jinny- Well, I uh--well I--see I um--
Kate- Jinny, I am not here to judge you or anything. You can talk to me. Tell me what's going on.
Jinny- I'm pregnant.
Kate- Oh my god. Have you told your father?
Jinny- Yeah. He knows and at first he was ok with it and he wanted to help me. But when the thing happened with my mom the next day, he has been so depressed he forgot about it and will continue to. He was supposed to take me to this appointment to check and see if the baby is ok and he was to busy.
Kate- I'm sorry this is happening. So you are planning on keeping the baby?
Jinny- Yes. I may be young but it needs a mother.
Kate- What about the father?

The next day, Jinny had gotten through half of her classes. She thought today should be the day when she breaks the news to him. She did it at lunch.

Jinny- Jack, can I talk to you?

Jinny- Well, I'm not quite sure how to say this but--I'm pregnant.
Jack- What??
Jinny- I'm pregnant.
Jack- Is it mine?
Jinny- How can you say that?
Jack- Well I mean we only did it once..
Jinny- Well apparently once was enough.
Jack- Are you getting rid of it?
Jinny- Excuse me!? NO! This is a person not a car.
Jack- Well I am in high school. I am not ready to do this. I want to be a kid while I still have the chance.
Jinny- So you are saying you aren't going to help me out with any of this?
Jack- I'm sorry but yes. I can't right now. If I were you, I would just get rid of it while you have the chance before someone else finds out.
Jinny- So that's it. You just don't want to tell everyone that you got me pregnant is that it?
Jack- No. I just--ok yeah. If anyone finds out, no girl will want to go out with me again.
Jinny- What so now you are dumping me?
Jack- Well yeah. What did you expect from me?
Jinny- I expected you to be a human being and take responsibility for what you have done. I am. You should do the same.
Jack- It wasn't my mistake. You shouldn't have come on to me.
Jinny- I what!?!?! I did not come on to you. You were the one who was drunk and wanted to try it.
Jack- You went along with it.
Jinny- I can't even believe this. I thought you were an understanding person. That you would actually help me out here. Boy I was a jerk to even think any of that.

She walked away and went somewhere where no one could see her but of course Magda saw her and went over to her. Jinny was crying histerically.

Magda- Jinny. What's wrong?
Jinny- Jack doesn't want it. He wants me to get rid of it.
Magda- What? Why?
Jinny- Because he doesn't want the responsibility. He dumped me and now I don't know what I am going to do.
Magda- We will all help you do this. You aren't alone. How did your appointment go?
Jinny- Oh my father was too busy to take me.
Magda- But Jinny you need to go. You need to make sure everything is going ok.
Jinny- I did go.
Magda- Who took you.
Jinny- *Under her breath* Lieutenant McCafferty.
Magda- What?
Jinny- Lieutenant McCafferty ok? Go ahead laugh.
Magda- *Laughs her a** off*

The whole class just mummbled 'hi theodore..' Theodore didn't say anything either. He was nervous and everyone could tell. Magda leaned over to Jinny's desk.

Magda- He's kinda cute.
Jinny- I don't know. He seems so stiff and serious..

They all walked home together. Magda's house was first on the way. About a block away from Magda's house, Teddy stops. Jinny notices this awkward behavior and stopped as well.

Jinny- Teddy...

They walked up to Jinny's door. John Sr. hadn't told Jinny this but he had set up another doctors appointment for her so he could be there. He looked out the window to see Jinny coming. He saw a boy with her. He assumed it was the guy who got her pregnant. He continued to stare out the window.

Jinny- Well thanks for the walk home.
Teddy- No problem. I enjoyed it.
Teddy started to walk away. Jinny stopped him.

With that, Teddy left and Magda had called again and Jinny of course had some explaining to do. A few months had passed and Jinny was now 6 months pregnant. She was ordered to leave school. Because she is so young, bedrest was the only way to carry the baby full term without any complications. It is a Saturday afternoon and since Jinny had been feeling kind of down lately about not being with her friends, John Sr. decided to have a little get together at his house to cheer her up. John Jr., Casey, Lt. McCafferty, Magda, CD, Nate, and Teddy were all there with Jinny. They were playing games, chowing down on food, and standing in line to feel Jinny's stomach.

Casey- Wow Jinny that is so cool! What does it feel like?
Jinny- It's hard to describe but as you said, it's cool! *Smiles*
Magda- So how is everything going?
Jinny- Boring. I don't know what I am going to do for the next 3 months.
CD- Well, Magda, me, and Nate will be by everyday after school..if that's ok with your Dad of course.
John Sr.- Sure why not. As long as you and your boyfriend can stop smooching for 10 minutes.
Nate- 10 minutes? I think I can handle that. Speaking of which, come here you.

He grabbed CD's hands and pulled her into him and they were passionately kissing.

Jinny- Please you guys get a room!
Magda- Seriously..
Nate- *Stopped kissing* It was well over 10 minutes.
Jinny- Try 2.
CD- Well excuse us for living! *They all laugh*
Kate- Ooh to be young again.
John Sr.- Tell me about it. I'm going to be a grandfather!
Kate- *Laughs* Well if it helps, you certainly don't look like one.

Everyone laughed. The party ended at 8PM and everyone went home. It was now 1:00AM and Jinny knocked on her Dad's bedroom door.

Jinny- Dad?
John Sr.- Jinny girl what's wrong?
Jinny- It hurts. Something's wrong.

John Sr. drove Jinny to the hospital. Casey and John Jr. went with them. They arrived at the hospital. Jinny's baby was having problems and had to be delivered as soon as possible. While she was in the OR, Lt. McCafferty showed up.

Kate- John, what happened?
John Sr.- The baby is having problems. She is in surgery now. She needs a c-section.
Kate- *Sighs* It's ok John. She'll be ok.

About 45 minutes later, a nurse came out.

Nurse- Jinny Exstead?
John Sr.- I'm her father. How is she?
Nurse- It's a boy. 3 pounds 8 ounces. He will be in the NICU. He is having problems breathing because he isn't fully developed.
Kate- And Jinny?
Nurse- She is going to be sore but she is ok.
John Sr.- Thank god. Can we see her?
Nurse- I will let you know when we move her into her room. She isn't awake yet.
Kate- Thank you Nurse.
John Sr.- Yes thank you.

John Sr., John Jr., Casey, and Kate walked into Jinny's hospital room. They looked at her. She was still alseep from the drugs. They all put chairs around her bed. John Jr., and Casey immediately fell asleep. John Sr., and Kate stayed silent the whole time. They just stared at her. By accident, Kate put her head on John Sr.'s shoulder and John's head laid on top of hers and they fell asleep. At 5:00AM, the doctor came in to check in Jinny. She started to wake up.

Doctor- Mr. Exstead, she's waking up.
John Sr.- *Rubs eyes* Jinnygirl..
Jinny- Dad?
John Sr.- I'm here sweetie.
Jinny- Where's my baby?
Doctor- Jinny I'm Doctor Newfeld. You're baby is in the NICU. He wasn't fully developed and had trouble breathing. He is stable now and has a good chance of recovery however he can't leave till he is at least 5 pounds.
Jinny- Can I see him?
Doctor- In a couple hours. You need to regain your strength.

A few hours passed and John told his daughter to get some sleep. She slept for about 2 hours and woke up demanding to see her son. John couldn't really blame her. They put a special gown on her and sterilyzed her hands and they went up to the NICU. They saw so many sick little babies. She had no idea what her son would look like. They finally found his incubator. With her was her Dad and Kate. Kate was like her second mother. She had been with them for a lot of things lately. Jinny appreciated that. They saw him.

Jinny- Dad..
John Sr.- I know..
Jinny- He's so small.
John Sr.- Don't worry Jinnygirl..
Kate- Your father's right Jin. He'll grow. He'll be strong and playing baseball before you know it.
Jinny- *Smiles* Thanks.
Kate- So what are you going to name him?
Jinny- Oh that's right. Well I've narrowed it down to 2 names.
John Sr.- Now Jinny I just want you to know since there are 3 John's in the family, you don't have to feel obligated to name the next boy in the family John. *Big smile*
Jinny- *Giggles* Well actually, I think John Exstead III sounds good. What do you think?
John Sr.- Well if you insist!

Doctor Newfeld came into the NICU to see how he was doing.

Doctor- How are you feeling?
Jinny- I'm fine. How about my baby?
Doctor- Well as I said he won't be able to leave until he is stronger and weighs more but I think he is going to pull through just fine.

Jinny stayed with her son for 1 hour and then went back to her room. There were Magda, CD, Nate, and Teddy waiting for her.

Magda- Jinny!
Jinny- Oh my god hi! I'm sorry I look a mess.
Magda- Moms usually do. Speaking of which, congratulations!
Jinny- *Smiles* Thanks.
Teddy- How does it feel to be a mom?
Jinny- Weird..but a great weird.
Magda- We're all so happy for you.
CD- What was it?
Jinny- I have a baby boy.
Nate- What's his name?
Jinny- John III.
Magda- That's adorable.
Teddy- He was born early though. When can he go home?
Jinny- When he weighs 5 pounds. Unless he is a very good eater, he can't gain that weight in two days, so I don't think we will be going home together.
Magda- I'm sorry Jin.
Jinny- He's just..so small. He's got all these machines. I never even got to hold him yet. The Doctor says he has a good chance of pulling through this just fine.
CD- Of course he will. He's an Exstead.
Nate- VERY true!
Jinny- *Giggles* Thank you guys.

About 2 weeks later, the nursery was all done and all the accessories as well. The nursery looked gorgeous. But more importantly, the Doctor called them and said John could go home today. Jinny was so excited. Jinny wanted everyone to be there for that moment..the first time she would hold her son. Again, with her and her Dad was Kate, Magda, Teddy, CD, and Nate. When they got to the hospital, Jinny had butterflies in her stomach. Yes for the last 2 weeks, she had been a mother but this was the first time she would be a real mother..which made her miss her own even more. They finally got to the NICU and walked over to John's crib. He was all dressed and ready to go. Jinny didn't want to hurt her baby or anything so asked a nurse if it was okay to pick him up.

Jinny- May I?
Nurse- Of course! He's your son.
Jinny- Yes he is.

Jinny just looked at the baby and then at Kate. Kate nodded, reassuring Jinny that everything was going to be okay. Jinny then picked up her son and craddled him in her arms.

Jinny- Hi John. I'm your mom. *Big smile* Let's go home.

After a week of her being a mom, she was so happy. Although she was hardly getting any sleep, she was happy. Kate came over almost everyday to see how they
were doing. So did Magda, Teddy, CD and Nate. They were not letting Jinny go through this alone. Teddy especially came over. One day, when John was about
4 weeks old, the doorbell rang and there was a man in a suit, handing John a big stack of papers in an envelope. They were addressed to Jinny.

Jinny- Dad, what is it?
John Sr.- A delivery for you. It's from a law office.
Jinny- Oh. I have no idea what this is.

She opened them up and read them over. She got tears in her eyes.

John Sr.- What's wrong?
Jinny- It's Jack. He wants full custody, trying to declare me a bad mother.
John Sr.- What!? Let me see that. *Reads it* I am a cop, I know what a bad mother is and you have been nothing but the greatest.
Jinny- Well he says I was harming my baby while I was pregnant and that's why it came early and I'm too young to be a mother. I'm going to be 16 in a week.
There are young mothers and they aren't all bad!
John Sr.- I know honey. We will fight this. John is not leaving this house, is that clear?
Jinny- Very!

Kate came over about 6:00 to check on them. After she saw the baby in the living room, she looked around for Jinny. She found her up in her room.

Kate- Hey Jin.
Jinny- Hi.
Kate- What's the matter?
Jinny- Look at these and tell me what you think. *Hands her the stack of papers*
Kate- Oh my god. He can't do this.
Jinny- Well I have to get a lawyer. We are going to fight this.
Kate- We sure are. I'll be there for you in anyway I can Jinny.
Jinny- You've been so good to me. I don't know how to thank you.
Kate- Maybe one day you'll come work for me. *Smiles*
Jinny- Like hell I will! *They both laughed*

Just then there was a knock on her door, it was Teddy.

Teddy- Hi Jinny.
Jinny- Hi Teddy.
Kate- Well I'll leave you two alone. *Smiles* Remember, when sitting on the bed together, both hands above the covers at all times! *Giggles*
Teddy- *Embarassed*
Jinny- *Not amused*
Kate- Sorry..*Left* Kids..
Teddy- So how are you?
Jinny- Not so good.
Teddy- Yeah I heard. It's awful!
Jinny- How did you find out?
Teddy- Raina and Jack are at our school.
Jinny- Ugh of course I should have known.
Teddy- I wanted to talk to you about that anyway. I figured to the courts, it might look good if you had a really steady boyfriend or finace maybe..
Jinny- Teddy..
Teddy- No let me finish. I don't care about school. I care about you and John. you both mean everything to me. Anyway, would you want to marry me.
Jinny- *In total shock* Uhh..

Teddy- I understand. The offer is still open.
Jinny- Well wait I wasn’t done. I can’t marry you Teddy but I will take the steady boyfriend one.
Teddy- Really?

They both hear John starting to cry.

Jinny- It’s almost time for his dinner.

John Sr. talked to a lawyer the same day. Jinny and her lawyer had a meeting with Jack and his lawyer. They were going to talk things out first. John Sr. waited outside holding John.

Mrs. Rooney- Me and my client don’t understand what this meeting is taking place for. Mr. Ellis said he didn’t want anything to do with Jinny or the baby when she confronted him.
Mr. Wright- Well he took some time to think and he feels the baby should know who it’s father is.
Jinny- Don’t ever call him an “it”. It’s a little boy.
Mr. Wright- Excuse me.
Mrs. Rooney- Mr. Ellis is suing for full custody. I don’t call that ‘just wanting to know who his son is’.
Mr. Wright- Mr. Ellis’s family feels that they can provide better for the baby than Miss Exstead can.
Mrs. Rooney- Miss Exstead and the baby have been doing great the last six weeks.
Mr. Wright- The baby wasn’t supposed to be born at the time I understand.
Mrs. Rooney- Babies come when they want to. It’s not an exact science.
Mr. Wright- We believe Miss Exstead was doing herself harm during her pregnancy.
Mrs. Rooney- We have documents from Jinny’s doctor’s saying she had the correct prenatal care and was very healthy.
Mr. Wright- We still feel something could have been done to correct the early birth. We are taking this to court.
Mrs. Rooney- Be my guest. You have no case.
Jinny- Why are you doing this? Just leave my family alone.
Jack- I want what’s mine. He’s my son.
Jinny- No he’s my son. You made damn sure of that.
Mr. Wright- Is there anyway Mr. Ellis can see the baby to begin the bonding process?
Mrs. Rooney- I don’t think so gentleman. Not until after the judge in court says you may have visitation.
Mr. Wright- All right you win this time.

Jinny got up, grabbed her baby and went home.

Jinny got up, grabbed her baby and went home. She held him close. No one could ever take him away. Magda knew what was going on since Jack bragged at school every chance he got. She and CD went over to Jinny’s house after school that day. They had to cheer her up.

Magda- *Knocked on the door*
John Sr.- *Answered* Hi girls. Jinny is up in her room.
Magda- Thanks Mr. Exstead.
John Sr.- You know by now you can call me John *laughs*
CD- Okay Mr–John.
John Sr.- That’s better You can go right up.

Magda and CD went up to Jinny’s room. They can hear Casey sing to John..badly. They laughed because it was cute. They knocked on the door and Casey quickly stopped singing. Jinny laughed before she told them to come in. Magda and CD walked in to find Jinny and Casey on the bed while Jinny was rocking John to sleep.

Magda- Hey Jin.
Jinny- Hey guys.
Magda- Hi Casey.
Casey- *Blushes* Hi. I gotta go. *Ran out of the room*
CD- What’s wrong with him?
Jinny- Well I just learned he has a major crush on you.
CD- Who?
Jinny- Magda.
Magda- You’re 10 year old brother has a crush on me? Awww I feel so special
Jinny- Don’t tell him I told you though. I promised I wouldn’t say anything.
Magda- Okay. So how did it go?
Jinny- He wants my baby. They honestly think it was my fault he was born premature.
CD- Come on that wasn’t anyone’s fault I can’t believe he said that.
Jinny- They think they have a pretty strong case.
Magda- No they don’t. We will win this whatever we have to do I promise Jinny that baby is staying with you.
Jinny- Thanks guys.

Couple more weeks went by and she was still worrying constantly. She never let John out of her site. Kate, CD, Magda, and Teddy were over there constantly. Finally, the day of court came. They were all a nervous wreck. They knew Jack didn’t have a chance but he was always known for tricks up his sleeve. Luckily, they had gotten a woman judge and they think that would be in their favor more than a man judge.

Judge- Okay let’s get started. Jack Ellis claims that Jinny Exstead has been doing wrong towards her baby since before birth, so now he wants full custody.
Mr. Wright- Yes that’s correct your honor.
Judge- And Jinny Exstead claims Jack Ellis did not want the baby when she told him about it and will not live up to his responsibilities as a father, so she wants full custody.

Mrs. Rooney- That’s correct your honor.
Judge- Well let’s hear from both sides separately in my chambers and we will figure this out. Mr. Ellis, would you like to go first?
Jack- Sure.

Jack and the judge were in the chambers for 20 minutes with each lawyer there. They all came out and it was Jinny’s turn. She walked in and sat down in front of the judge’s desk.

Judge- Okay Miss Exstead, I’ve heard from Jack now I would like to hear from you. He told me you had your baby prematurely.
Jinny- Yes I did but the doctors said that it was not my fault. I kept up with all my doctors appointments, I was on bed rest, I did everything I was supposed to do.
Judge- Okay and how is the baby now?
Jinny- He’s amazing. He eats good, he never sleeps, and he’s happy. *Smiles*
Judge- *Smiles* Good. What did Jack say to you when you told him you were pregnant.
Jinny- He asked if it was his. He told me to get rid of it and that this would be a bad reputation towards him with the ladies. Look, I know I’m young..but I had a baby and I am taking responsibility for him. I plan on going back to school when he is a little older and I’m not going to let him go.
Judge- Well between you and me, I think he wants the baby to impress the ladies too.
Mr. Wright- Your honor..
Judge- Stop. I will give my decision in a few minutes. *Winks at Jinny*
Jinny- Thank you.

10 minutes later, the judge came out and awarded full custody to Jinny. Jack stormed right out of the courtroom and Jinny took her family home. When they got there, Kate, CD, Nate, Magda, and Teddy were all there to congratulate her.

Magda- Oh Jinny we’re so happy! Now the jerk will leave you alone.
Nate- And if he ever comes near you again, you just let me know. *Winks*
Jinny- *Laughs* Thanks.
Teddy- I’m really happy for you Jinny.
Jinny- Thank you..steady boyfriend.
Teddy- *Blushed*
Kate- Jin, how about we have a little girls afternoon. We’ll go shopping, grab something to eat, what do ya say?
Jinny- Oh..I don’t know.
John Sr.- It’s okay Jinny girl. I’ll watch the baby.
Jinny- Well..ok. Let me go get dressed in something less fancy.
Kate- We’ll wait.
Nate- I’m gonna miss ya.
CD- I know I’ll miss you too. *They kiss for 2 minutes*
Magda- You guys done yet?
Nate- Yes. Hey is it okay if I hang here till she gets back?
John Sr.- Uh sure.
Teddy- Me too.
Jinny came down the stairs and all the girls left. They mostly bought stuff for the baby but Jinny got a few things. When they got back, the house was strangely quiet. They went into John Sr.’s bedroom and found Teddy, Nate, and John Sr. tied up and their mouths duck taped.

Jinny- Dad, what happened!? *Untaped his mouth* Where’s John?
John Sr.- Jinny I am so sorry.

Jinny- Dad, what happened ? *Un taped his mouth* Where’s John?
John Sr.- Jinny I am so sorry.
Jinny- Where is my baby?
John Sr.- I don’t know..
Kate- John, what happened?
John Sr.- A couple of boys came in here and tied us up. The baby was in here with us and...they took him
Jinny- Jack.
Magda- You think he would do this?
Jinny- I know he did.
Kate- Ill send inspectors over here to figure out what happened and they will be after him Jin I promise.

After being questioned by officers, Jinny just sat outside on the steps and waited. Kate and her inspectors went out searching for Jack. Teddy went outside and sat with her. Magda and CD had to go home but they waited by their phones.

Jinny- I’m being punished Teddy.
Teddy- No. Please don’t think like that. I should’ve stopped them.
Jinny- Why is this happening to me? Why is this happening to him? He could be lying somewhere, sick, hungry, cold, or hurt. It’s almost 9:00. I won’t get to sing him his lullaby.
Teddy- Kate will find him.

Just then, a patrol car pulled up to the house. Kate came out of the passenger seat and walked up to Jinny.

Jinny- Did you find him? Did you find my baby?
Kate- Go look in the back seat.

Jinny couldn’t tell what facial expression she had. She didn’t know if Kate found him or found Jack or what. She braced herself walking over to the car. She opened the door and in the back seat was John. She smiled and picked him up out of the car.

Jinny- Thank you Kate. Thank you!
Kate- Jack was indeed the person who took him. He said he wanted one day with him, but you can be sure he will never see John again.

Jinny smiled and walked up to Kate and hugged her.

Jinny- Thank you! You have done so much for me…us. You’re like a second mother to me. Thank you.
Kate- You’re welcome. Let’s get you inside.

And so they went to begin a great life together.
