ddelta 01-30-2004, 03:09 PM I have been watching Unsolved for the longest times and some of the spookest ones I recall watching are:
1. The haunted bunk bed one......that was just the scariest haunting one I can remember.
2. The one where the girl got hit in the head in CA by a wood board while she was on the back of her boyfriends motorcycle. She was brain damaged and her family thought it had to do with her boyfriend and not her.
3. The one where the boys are sitting in the dugout drinking beer and guys in masks come up to them and shoot and kill one of them.
4. THe Orange Sock murders of the two girls in Oregon. The fact that the crazy man shot them while they were trying to run away. I actually red a book on the guy they think did it - Thomas Luther - and he raped a girl who got away but i was cringing when i was reading the story.
5. One i just saw recently of the woman i believe in Mass or NH who was working at a card shop and disappeared. She was a teacher i believe and they found her dead a few days later.
6. The one where the guy (i believe they thought he was a serial killer) killed those shop girls in the bridal boutique in the back room. Some man had come in while the crime was being committed.
7. The other one just like that at a fast food joint where a man came in a shot everyone.
8. One that made me not sleep was the one in Vancouver of that couple being shot at the rest stop. That guy was SOOOOOOO spooky looking (but i heard they caught him)
9, The girl in Pennsylvania home for college who car broke down and she disappered. They found her body a few days later (Anyone recall her name).
10. And my last one i ***uely remember is the one where the guy is about to go into a store (or actually does) and he runs into a man who just killed someone running out (not the beauty shop one though). I think it was like a convience store.
I could sit here all day but i'll go back to work
:)
Anonymous1 01-30-2004, 07:13 PM The story of the haunted bunk bed creeped me out, as well as that entire Halloween 1988 episode, when I saw it at the age of 8! It included stories of Queen Mary ship hauntings, an elderly couple in Georgia being terrorized by ghosts and the hauntings of The General Wayne Inn in Pennsylvania. That rerun has come up at least once a year in 2000, 2002 and 2003, as I've seen. That episode was an example of excellent television in progress, as it's incredible that network television can create such feelings of fear!
I am not spooked, but offended, by a mystery that came up recently on UM reruns. It was the story of a guy named "Bell" (I think that's the name) who, after exposing himself to children, brutally murdered a young man in front of his mother when the guy confronted "Bell." "Bell" later went on to break into another house, but was scared off by a savvy woman. Fortunately, it's been reported he was captured and sent to jail. That episode showed such brutality that it never ceases to offend me, not so much in a scared sense, but in the brutality of the crime.
crystaldawn 01-30-2004, 07:24 PM Yes, I agree that murder was so despicable!! That has to be every mother's worst nightmare to be watching out the window and see your child be murdered! Not to mention what a hero the victim was, and could very much, with his actions, have prevented a child being molested on that day.
Composite Sketch 01-30-2004, 07:40 PM Just going to make some friendly corrections :)

That was in Colorado actually.

I remember that too. Small town in Massachusetts I believe.

Famous I-70 killer. Yup.

That actually happened near Blind River, Ontario. And they caught a guy for another crime and think that he did this one as well, but haven't charged him for it as far as I know. (I think he did it though)
9, The girl in Pennsylvania home for college who car broke down and she disappered. They found her body a few days later (Anyone recall her name).

I don't remember these last two. A little help here?
I have never seen the haunted bunk beds story! Or at least I don't remember it. I feel deprived since everyone else has.
I was glad to see that Bell has been caught. That's another one I hadn't seen since it first broadcast. I have to say that I've always thought that was the best Unsolved re-enactment they've ever done. They did a really good job.
ddelta 01-31-2004, 07:44 PM Oh my god I remember that one with Bell....the guy was actually played by Matthew McConhey (sorry about the spelling).
The one with the girl from Pennsylvania was she was home from college and was out drinking with friends (she was the DD) and she left to go home. Apparently someone pretending to be a cop stopped her (a passing car saw this) and she never made it home. Her body was found in a desert lot a few days later..she was raped adn killed. But i don't recall her name.
As for the last one i don't recall too much about it but i just remember that witness walking in while the guy was running out....it was so spooky because UM had that music in the background (you know the one they play when its a pivotal point in the story). The Zodiac Killer one was spooky too....

That episode totally freaked me out. One of the first episodes of UM I saw on Lifetime featured that case. I recently had seen it again(it had been many years since I first saw it) and it totally scares me still.
cobra_commander 02-01-2004, 01:27 AM speaking of the I-70 killer, can anyone supply me with his composite sketch? i've been scouring the internet for it, but can't find it anywhere.
80s90sFanatic 02-01-2004, 01:44 AM I agree all with you guys on the favs. I've seen all of those episodes. All those are creepy, especially Edward Harold Belle story that one always makes me cry, although I don't know why.

I know just what you mean. This is one of the few episodes that I have a hard time watching. I'll never forget this--the first time I saw it, I was just shaking. This was a truly horrific crime.
Fall Back Doggie 02-02-2004, 05:32 PM one episode that always gets me is the Charles Holden/hitchhiker case...
also, one about some cat named Kurt, who dissapeared after a party, I seen that one when I was about 8 years old, and still remember it to this day..
And the one where the guy rides his bike and damn near gets kiled by the trucker...on purpose!
ddelta 02-02-2004, 10:43 PM Refresh my memory - which is the Charlie Holden Case. And what is the cat case???
Also, one of the meanest ones I ever remember is the bank president one where they dumped him into the water, weighted down by a brick while he was still alive! Just to get the banks money. I heard they caught those guys though.
crystaldawn 02-03-2004, 12:12 PM The "cat" they referred to is Kurt Sova, a very interesting case. He disappeared after a party and was found dead (not far from where the party was) 5 days later. What is most interesting is they couldn't figure out his cause of death (not enough alcohol in his system to kill him, no drugs or sign of trauma) and the coroner said he had only been dead 2-3 days which meant the first 2 days he was missing he was still alive.
dynoguy88 02-03-2004, 03:15 PM About your #4 - That case has to be the scariest one they have ever shown on UM. The double murder took place in Breckenridge, Colorado in Januray 1982. Both women had vanished within hours of each other, both had been hitchhiking home, both had been driven 15-20 miles away from town into the spooky woods on a bitterly cold night, both had been shot in the back as they tried to flee from their attacker and both women's bodies were found with an orange sock.
I know this crime took place in a small town where everyone knowns each other, but it's still the perfect example of how dangerous hitchhiking can be and how we should never take part in it. There are just too many crazy people in this world and you never know which strangers you can trust.
I read the book about Thomas Luther as well and there is no doubt in my mind that he was responsible for the murders of these two women, Bobbie and Annette. He didn't work the day of and the day after the killings. Not to mention he also attacked, raped and almost killed another attractive woman who was hitchhiking home out in the woods less than a month after Bobbie and Annette's murders. It's too much of a coincidence for him NOT to be the killer. He also bragged to inmates in prison that he had killed two women on the same night but would never be charged. His name was never mentioned in the Unsolved Mysteries segment, but calls to the telecenter all involved suspisions of Luther.
This scum bag is currently in jail on a life sentence for a murder he committed in 1995, but he was never charged with the murders of Bobbie and Annette. There will never be conclusive evidence to charge him because both women were taken out in the middle of nowhere and murdered. The chances of a witness passing by the murder sites were slim to none. hat's too bad because he is the obvious suspect. At least he is spending the rest of his miserable life in jail, but the families of both women deserve justice.
Fall Back Doggie 02-03-2004, 05:31 PM the Charles Holden is about him giving a hitchhiker a ride...when he told the hitchhiker he was as far as he could take him, the hitchhiker flipped on him, pulled a knife out and told him he was going to kill him...Charles ran out the car to a nearby store, but it was closed...he then told the hiker that he'd take him abywhere he wanted, ran to his truck, and left the idiot hiker behind...
he decided to drive a while the opposite direction of his home, as a safety precaution...on his way back however, in a wierd coincidence, the hiker was walking through his yard! Charle's mother stayed right behind him, so Charles went to get a cop....when they returned, they discovered his mother had been stabbed to death...
ddelta 02-03-2004, 10:00 PM I've always wonder if that guy killed his own mother and made up the story about the hitchhiker. It all sounded so weird to me to make sense. ANyone else think this?
UMfan77 02-03-2004, 10:10 PM Charles Holden was cleared from being a suspect because the cops interviewed people at the fastfood restaurant, and there was indeed a man fitting the same description as the hitchhiker, that was asking people for a ride that night. The whole story does sound bizarre but I guess it was true. What a coinscience that the hitchhiker would end up at the house of Charles Holden.
I remember the story about that guy "Bell", the guy he murdered was named Larry but his last name escapes me. He is locked away now thankfully.
One that I think about is the one about this man who was a biker, but not a bad one. Anyway he went on a trip and never returned. His wife was pleading for his safe return and they suspected he probably met with foul play from other bikers. They had an update where they found his clothes and later declared him dead. I don't know if they ever found his remains. Did they?
There is one episode that I saw but didn't know what happened because the tv was on mute. It was about a lady at an indian reservation somewhere in the desert. They kept showing her wandering away from there and hitchiking. Then they showed an update with some blonde haired man in court. I assume he was sent to jail? Can someone tell me what this whole case was about?
Composite Sketch 02-06-2004, 01:56 AM Larry Dickens was his name, I believe.
That last case - was that the Arizona case about Marie Armstrong? She was a schizophrenic who killed her boyfriend, then showed up at an Indian reservation under an alias asking about a car (I think?), then disappearing. The update (with the old school update music I love) showed her in court with blonde hair, and her face was blacked out for some reason. I saw the case for the first time last month but it originally aired on November 29, 1989.
crystaldawn 02-06-2004, 08:02 AM The biker that was killed was named Tom Roche. I think it said on the update that they did find some remains (partial anyway) that DNA tests confirmed were him.
November4991 02-23-2004, 09:22 PM Is the "Haunted Bunkbed" episode, the one where a guy is staying with friends at a cabin, or something, and they hear all kinds of noises, and one night, while sleeping, he feels something sit on his leg?
Some favorites I can think of now:
Spontaneous Human Combustion
The Haunted house of the Mann family
"Losing Time" Alien Abduction

I agree. That story is strange but it certainly isn't impossible.
People like that suspect make me so afraid to pick up hitchhikers.

That story was too bizarre. I first saw it a few weeks ago when Lifetime repeated it and that story spooked me out. That's why my parents always lock the doors on our car when we see a hitchhiker!
I think the ladys name was Bonnie. She suffered from agoraphobia and it really put a strain on her marriage. She was suppose to take a trip on a train but instead she vanished. Her husband found her car at the train station and left a note on there for her but she never returned.
Her husband seemed kind of cold like he didn't care either way that she was gone. I remember him saying something like "It was hell living with her. It was hell losing her but now I've moved on, I'm happier than ever, blah blah blah."
More info please if available!
Mystery-Lover 07-20-2004, 11:25 AM The one with the girl from Pennsylvania was she was home from college and was out drinking with friends (she was the DD) and she left to go home. I believe her name was Aimee Willard. I think that it was just on Lifetime a couple days ago. It is a very bizarre case.
JohnMill 07-22-2004, 01:15 AM was murdered by Arthur Bomar who was out on parole in June of 96. He is currently convicted of Amy's murder and is on death row.

Man, that was my all time scariest case. I still have difficulty watching it. I first saw it when I was eight. I have that episode on tape.
Crap, I hope they got the guy for it. Whenever I compare this case to any other it comes out as scary by a long shot. Makes me wince.
Another one that freaked me out was where this guy employed this black man as a labourer on his farm. The man brought his family with him and someone managed to influence his employer to be his slave. I think the case happened somewhere in Pensylvania. The employer had been murdered in the basement where he was living a life of poverty.
Really creepy how someone could influence this guy to be his slave.
They solved the case thankgod. It was in the 2001/2002 series.
My final freaky case is where a girl is staying home from school for the day because she is ill. Then she wakes up and cant remember anything but her house is ransacked. Then over the following months she has seisures and slowly recovers her memory which is pretty horrific. They never knew whether the girl was lieing or telling the truth although she did pass lie detector tests.
This case was shown in the 2001/2002 series too
I just thought of another case that really scared the hell out of me.
It was about this Middle Eastern man. He was kidnapped for some unknown reason in Beruit, Lebanon in the 1980s. His captors believed he was an American spy. He cut himself and his captors took him to hospital, it was the only way he could escape.
He had migrated to the United States in the 1980s are splitting up with his wife. He started and ran a very successful Hollywood Arabic Restaurant.
Then he started getting phonecalls with threats, machine gun fire, evil laughter and haunting screams. His car was even bombed.
The man was so scared he self commited himself to a psychiatric hospital just to avoid the calls. The manager that helped run the restuarant while the guy was in hospital started to recieve abussive phone calls too. His son was even attacked.
When the story was shot in 1993. Something like 5 years after the torment started the man in hospital was still recieving on average 1 phone call per day.
The man believe that the threats all stem back from the time he was kidnapped and that he saw people he wasnt meant to see. He also believes that he met some underworld Beruit figures at some of his ex-wife's parties (his wife was a Lebanese film start).
Freaky case.
I just thought on one final case. This case is where this girl disappeared from her home in about 1975. It was believed that she was kidnapped by a biker gang passing through the area. Her desperate mother goes on a long search for her and her daughter is only described as being 'mute' but still alive. She traces her and get close numerous times but is never able to reunite with her daughter. Then in 1992 a man in the UK believes that he was offered to buy the daugther.
This case aired in the 2001/2002 series so most of you should know it.
yolate 08-05-2004, 11:55 AM One of my favorites that no one has mentioned is the one where the girl is talking to her boyfriend from a payphone and a guy in a green pick-up with a fish decal on the back window pulls up and ends up abducting her with her boyfriend listening on the phone. Really scary. I think the boyfriend may have been played by Paul Rudd from the movie Clueless and the show Friends. Anyone ever here more info on this case?
