Sanford and Son. The ABC Sitcom that premeired in 1974 lasted until December of 1975. I never saw the Show but I curious to know why it could not do as good as the other 3 Hit Shows-Jeffersons, Good Time, and Sanford and Son. Anyone who seen That's My Mama, feel free to reply.

The jokes weren't very good. Mind you, it's been years since I saw it, but the show as a whole was a flop.

I remember my mom saying that the mailman was funny.

I Love Carol Burnett!

I thought it was a great show. It was like the Jeffersons and Goodtimes probably a little better than Goodtimes

Quite honestly, I didn't find it funny either. The jokes were thin. Poor writing, I guess.

Sorry, but I just gotta do it:

"You all know him as Joe The Policeman from the "What's Goin' Down?" episode of That's My Mama. Give it up for Mr. Randy Watson!"

"That boys good!"

I don't specifically remember the mailman. I saw a few eps of this when we first got cable tv in this area, almost 20 years ago. I found the plots and writing to be very thin, and didn't watch much. I've never seen it since, nor do I have any desire to run out and try to find it.

THe guy who played the mailman on That's my Mama was the same guy who played SWEET DADDY on Good Times.

Yeah, but I think the mailman then all of a sudden became a barber, which didn't make much sense.

Well my guess is he must have been funny so they decided to give him a bigger role in season 2 by giving him a role as a barber.

I think that was the problem though, he was only funny in small spurts.

Sanford and Son lasted longer than 2 seasons. It was on for five years! I have watched it but I can't say I really liked it a lot. I didn't think a show about a junkyard was thrilling. I did, however, like Fred and his rivalry with Esther. It was an okay show. I can't say I hated so that puts me somewhere in between.

This post wasn't about Sanford and Son, it was about the short-lived sitcom on ABC called-That's My Mama. And I was asking why couldn't the show (That's The Mama) compete with Jeffersons, Good Times, and Sanford and Son.

The show was a little weak when it came to writing; but it was kinda of a cute show

I'm closed to getting this show. I think the last time anyone seen this show was the 1980's. I don't think the show was aired anywhere in the 1990's

I read in a Jet Magazine that the Mom in this show was TOO STERN rAther than Warm. That could have been one of the problems.

I remember liking that show the first season, (mind you, it's been 25 years since I even saw a rerun) but they made so many changes in the second year, that it was too different. The Tracy character was replaced by another actress, they got rid of the two old men that hung around the barber shop. Junior was funny too. Also at that time ABC was in transition and couldnt seem to decide if it wanted urban comedy or escapist fare like Happy Days, which took much of Maude's audience in its first season. As far as I could tell whenever they wanted to kill a show, they would put it on opposite All In the Family (Bewitched, which was tired anyway, The Partridge Family, which I heard might have continued if David Cassidy hadnt been ready to quit, so they killed it.) They had even talked of replacing David Cassidy with Rick Springfield for a fifth season which would have been stupid, since DC was one of the main reason for its success. Television politics!!!!

Yeah i finally saw a episode from season one with the two old men in the barbershop. One of the old men was the first WOODY on Sanford and Son. Also the second Tracy appeared to be much older than he first one.
