Found out the second Lionel was kicked off the show before the 1978-79 season because he had contractual disputes with the Jeffersons producers and they decided to axed him from the script. I always thought he left on his own.

I did not like the second Lionel to begin with (Damon Evans) I thought he was a lousy actor and not as handsome as Mike Evans....:)

I agree with Tara. The second Lionel was not Lionel to me. Why did Mike Evans leave the series the first time? I never knew why.

Damon Evans was gross; he had funky teeth..I felt sorry for Berlinda Tolbert (Jenny) when she had to kiss that frog...

You could tell she enjoyed kissing Mike Evans, but when embracing Damon Evans she looked kinda of disgusted...:lol:

Sorry Tara I have to correct you. The first Lionel left because he felt his role on the Jeffersons in season one became too small. So Mike Evans asked Norman Lear what can he do to get off the show and Lear said just say you want to leave the show and that's what Mike did. He returned in 1979 because Sherman Hemsley ran into him in public and asked the producers can he return.
