I can't speak for everyone, but the problem I had was how rushed everything was. First he was this goofball freaky guy who thought he was going to die when he turned 30, which he of course didn't. (which also makes him too old for Jo) then all of the sudden they went on a date. Ok, that's fine. Then all of the sudden he's completely in love with her and wants to marry her and she says yes and they get married like a day later because he needs to go on tour for music for a month. I've never heard of anyone being able to book a chapel on such short notice. It was ridiculously rushed and MAYBE if they had had more time dating and getting to know each other we could've seen what Jo saw in him. But since this all happened in the span of 10 minutes in 3 episodes, we all just hate him. Ok, not all of us, but many of us. Hope that explains it.

I like Rick. I just think Jo is to good for anyone......except maybe me. Ha! Wishful thinking...

Anyway, Rick is ok to me. Use your own skills to deside wether you like him or not. Judge yourself.

Like TvAddict, I agree. Rick was a loser, simply.

"Hate" is such a strong word to use against Rick considering that he is not a thief or a murderer (or anything in that category). However, being a college student myself, I can't understand why on earth Jo would marry a piano player after she worked SO hard to get through Eastland and Langley. Not that Rick is supposed to "support" her...of course not, that's old-fashioned. But in a situation like that, Jo would probably end up supporting Rick at some point.

I mean, her parents sacrificed so much to give her the very best, and then she married a piano player?

I am not saying that there's something wrong with playing the piano, but unless you're one of the all-time great piano artists......

Well, I still say she should have stuck with that rich guy named Bill- he was dreamy!

Yeah, I agree - Bill was OK. Even if Rick and Jo weren't "perfect" for each other, think of the alternative: EDDIE. He was scum, in my opinion. Not telling her the was married, all that stuff. He probably wouldn't have been a faithful husband anyway. At least Rick seemed to be a nice guy and was devoted to Jo.

Oooooh, that's cuttin' a bit low, eh? Yes, Eddie did make a mistake for not telling Jo about his marriage. BUT, he was going to get a divorce, AND it wasn't like Jo and Eddie were TOGETHER when he got married. He didn't cheat on her or anything like that. Eddie loved Jo, and vice versa. It was a relationship, unlike that flash in the pan wedding with Rick.

Here's a question: How many combined minutes of episodes did Rick actually appear in? What, 3 minutes? 5? Maybe around 7 minutes?

UNDERDEVELOPED.

I've never actually seen the episodes with Rick in them, but hey if he makes Jo happy you should be happy, that the writers put that in there. He made her Happy!

He probably made her happy for a while there, just like with any couple who decides to get married. The beginning is always the best time. But we haven't seen enough of Rick to know what happened after they got married. Maybe she became irritated with him because he couldn't find a real job, and she had to support him! Maybe she got a bit tired there of hearing him play the piano all the time...who knows!

You know what, that could be very true. Rick could have annoyed her with all the piano playing, or maybe she had to support him. Or maybe they would still be happy, and nothing bad could have happened, if they show was still going on. You never know what the writer could have had in store for them, but I still go with the opinion he made her happy, and her fans should just be happy for her! But that's just my opinion!

Okay, I know it is just a TV show, BUT, if this were real life, the Jo/Rick thing would never have worked out. I mean, come on, Jo worked hard her whole life to achieve some sort of success, and Rick was basically a bum. He had not worked in two years when she met him. Yes, he promised to get a real job and work hard if she married him, and I do think she loved him, (I mean, the writers made us think that,)but love is not always enough. I do not know many women who work hard for what they have, only to marry someone with very little ambition, and have the marriage last. Anyaway, I know FOL is not real life, but in my opinion the Jo/Rick thing would probably end in divorce.

I'm glad Jo married Rick! I think he's funny! I'm very happy she didn't marry Eddie because he's so ugly! His teeth are really weird!

I haven't put much thought into Eddie, but I I disagree about what you said about him being ugly. But what's the point of marrying a cute bum like Rick? Now Bill- on the other hand- he was rich and good-looking. http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/wink.gif

I haven't seen any episodes w/ Rick in them but I personally liked Eddie. I know some of you think he was "scum" but he and Jo really did love eachother. I know he lied to Jo about being married but when he said that he saw someone that looked like her and he started looking every where for he, I thought that it was sweet. I mean after 2 years, or so, of not seeing eachother he still loved her. OK, maybe I'm going crazy about Eddie but I think that he and Jo wound've been really happy together, if they did get married.

Rick was a MOOCHER! He WAS a bum. And he probably sucked at the piano too!

Oh, and Rick was not cool. And Eddie was not "ewwwwww". I mean, he wasn't the greatest looking kid on the block, but give him some credit.
Like Sean said, Eddie and Jo were in love, not some infactuation Rick and Jo developed. Stupid.

OK, Eddie lied to Jo for about a week. It wasn't like they were having some tawdry affair and then he springs the "oh by the way - I'm married" card. If I was 18 and my boyfriend pulled an Eddie, I would've booted him to the curb. If I was 22 or however old Jo was when she married Rick, I would have reconsidered. It was not that big of a deal.

End of rant. Point still the same. There are not enough words in the English language to describe how bad Rick sucks.

I'll say it again, Rick was a MOOCHER!

They tried to make him cool, but we as an audience know better. He was a quick shoo-in, so one of the girls could get married by the end of the series. And since Jo is regarded as "the most popular", they saw Rick to be her fiance'/husband.

They should of just had Tootie and Jeff get married. I mean, at least we knew him for more than a few seasons.
