"maddie, we are in deep doo doo"
what a way to start the series. their first case and they get duped by one hitman to find another.
loved how at the beginning, one man tried to take franklin tate out in his hospital room. they struggled. and for a man about to die, tate gives a remarkable fight. he chases the guy down the hallway, through overturned obstacles...only thing is, on the way back to his room, tate goes back through the hallway and it is clear. not nothing on the floor or even standing up. a decorative boo boo.
loved how the first morning at work, maddie finds david watching "family feud". thought that was fitting since that is how their relationship was.
a good first episode.

Hey, Bobby.

Just a quick question first. I'm a bit confused. Is "Gunfight at the So-So Corral" the second episode? I was just on davidandmaddie.com, and the said the first one was just called "The Pilot." I really don't remember!

At any rate, I'll discuss the episode at hand. Truth be told, I haven't seen this episode in years, so I barely remember anything about it! :o When I was reading the guide at the site, though, a couple things triggered some memories.

Some of my favorite parts:

Agnes: "This is our slow time."
Maddie: "Mornings?"
Agnes: "Well......"
Maddie: "Mondays?"
Agnes: "Kind of."
Maddie: "Spring?"
Agnes: "The 80s."

David: "X-ray specs. Pretty cool, huh? You must be wearin' a lead dress...I can't see a thing!"

And, of course...

David: "Do bears bear? Do bees be?"

I must apologize, 'cause my memory's a tad foggy when it comes to certain episodes! :D

memory, foggy????
you can't forget this show!! it is toooo goooddd.

i guess the numbering will depend how how you look at it. me, i look at the pilot as not being part of the series. so that would make "gunfight..." the first episode. but if you look at the pilot as the first episode, then it would be the second episode.
that would not make either way wrong, just would make a little confusion from a person's particular point of view.

:o I feel guilty, now! I really wish I could remember more about ML, but I'm stuck with the same stupid episode!!!

I always looked at the pilot as part of the series, so that's where I got confused. :p Sorry! :D

well, it like i said, neither one of our viewpoints is wrong.
it's like how you go though school being taught that 1 is the first number. if it is the first number, then where does 0 fit in? definitely not 10. because 10 is 10. 0 is not 10. therefore, that would make 0 be the actual first number. and 1 would be the second number.
did i lose you. or did i just make sense?

oh boy, i can count even more ways that i love this show.
the opening: with the music and the sign "wrong way do not enter severe tire damage" i actually got butterflies. this show is going to be about emotions.
the film used is expensive and not one part of it feels like a set.
the movement of the actors. they do not stand and say their lines, it's constant movement. brys right.
the music in the show. i really love the song selections.
do bears bear? do bees bee?
the actors touch, like in real life, it does not feel staged.
the x-ray specs.
maddie is glamourous.
the fight in the car, she screams and he turns up the music. i got the giggles and almost couldn't stop. been there, done that.

maddie:
i know he's old, but theres something kind of
david:
spent
maddie:
worldly about him.

it's seems like she's around older gentlemen. in the pilot, this episode. i agree with david. she needs him.
davids definition of a promise
david saying they agree, because of books-they both read left to right.
these two are a wonderful comedic team and i loved this episode.

I just watched this episode for the first time. I loved it.

I am so excited at watching from the beginning and seeing the relationship between Maddie and David develop ;)

Before I had gone from the Pilot to Womb with a View with Only Lady in an Iron Mask in between. Any other episodes I watched back in the 80s and can't remember them.

Happy girl today :D

Sorry for the confusion. On DavidandMaddie.com we are using a database for the episode guide and for it to be able to sort in chronological order, there has to be numbers assigned to the episodes. Since the Pilot aired first---we consider it #1 and I suppose technically it is the first episode of Moonlighting. But Gunfight is the first season (normal length) episode.

I hope this makes sense and doesn't cause too much confusion.

I Loved this episode and I especially loved the fight in the car. I'm embarrassed to say I've experienced this sort of thing first hand and it was very realistic.

I thought Maddie had pretty good chemistry with the older guy no matter how 'spent' he was.

I loved David's x-ray specs.

Since I'm a fan of Medium and of Glen Gordon Caron- and being aware of how deliberate and detail oriented he is- I looked up the romance novel that Miss Dipesto, the receptionist was reading (Brave the Wild Wind) on Amazon.com.

Here's part of the product description-

The man is enraged by the woman's arrogance, yet haunted by her beauty. For his pride insists that he tames the fiery temptress who toys with his emotions and his passion won't be sated until the sensuous hellion becomes a woman in his arms.

And from some reader reviews-

Their clashes energize the story and keep you reading all the way through.

The woman is a spoiled brat, but she is a very round character. The whole storymakes me think of a romance story the way it should be written.

I love to read about women that can stand their own ground, but need the love of a man at the same time.

Hi kismet

I didn't see the CSI eipisode--but I know that people in the Moonlighting Social Club are just assuming that it's a takeoff on an episode of Moonlighting--and I'm sorry to Bruce Willis fans--but mostly a takeoff of an opinion the writers of that episode of CSI have of Bruce Willis. (Bruce Willis to me seems to be a good man) Having emphasised that--they also think it was a nod to the fighting that went on on the set of Moonlighting between Bruce Willis and Cybill Shepherd AND continues to this day. Some people who work in the 'industry' say that people in the movie industry gossip about those two and have on and off for about 20 years.
I went out on a date with a man that isn't in the Social Club and we were making first date talk and I was talking about how I had just discovered Moonlighting and he said
"Oh yeah, I saw an episode of CSI that was a take on the fighting between the stars and had a Bruce Willis type of character that had died in a baby diaper--it was a really funny episode"
I myself have noticed that Cybill Shepherd seems to have chemistry with almost Every man she comes in contact with.
So far in the first 3 episodes, it's been David, the older hit man in the second episode and the man she took out on a date to get information from in the third episode. I don't think the reaction with David is unusual for her. And maybe in real life, Bruce Willis isn't that important to her either--just typical.

Cheryl - do you mean they gossip about what happened 20 years ago or what has happened between them for the past 20 years? Check your PMs.

They gossip about the way Bruce Willis and Cybill Shepherd have not been able to let each other go for the last 20 years.

comments like-

They are still sniping at each other, after 20 years.

Whatever they feel for each other-indifference is not one of those feelings and after 20 years.

They act like an old married couple, bicker, bicker, bicker.

They are both able to still get a response from each other, after all this time.

I got the idea that they started gossiping about them 20 years ago about what was happening then and are still gossiping about them about what is happening now.

Cybill has had great chemistry with many men. Here are just a few:

Bruce Willis (WOW)
Jeff Bridges
Timothy Bottoms
Gregory Harrison (WOW)
Charles Rockett
Sam Elliott
Don Johnson
Mark Harmon
Charles Grodin

What I find VERY INTERESTING about my incomplete list is that she never worked with any of these men again. Shouldn't some producer(s) somewhere have realized they had a potential gold mine?

I also do not believe that it was a coincidence that this episode was aired February 17, one day before Cybill's birthday. When I saw the title, I knew it was going to be interesting.

Correction -- she did work with Jeff Bridges and Timothy Bottoms again but that was in a sequel to The Last Picture Show. I meant in a new movie/TV show. I think she definitely should have worked with Gregory Harrison again, and Jeff Bridges, and Bruce Willis, and Sam Elliott etc.

from laura:

This episode is exciting! Maybe it's the music and fighting. It's so 'Lady and the Tramp'!

Maddies alarm clock woke her up with Tutti Frutti.

David sang Do Wah Ditty Ditty when doing the Henry Higgins routine.

Don't know the name of the song-but I would love to have it on Loud with a guy like David in the room, or car or anywhere.
Here are some words:
"There ain't nobody going to tie you down, they say I fill you full of sweet infatuation"
This show ROCKS.

David explains what a promise is:
Something you make very late at night to someone your never going to see again so that you can get to the good stuff.

What is happening to Maddie is so funny. She's a lady, and yet her refined dinner was with a hit man and her partner is...David. And she ends up screaming when confronted-and David confronts effortlessly and without hesitation.

I love this show.

I think one of my favourite parts of this episode is Maddie's behaviour when they go to the bar and in the alley when David alters her appearance. We are already beginning to see that she has different sides to her personality
