View Full Version : What Movies Should ALWAYS Be Seen Uncut?
Jack1000 12-29-2003, 04:10 PM Guys,
As a follow up to my post of the movies that I like better edited because of too much profanity. I think that there are certain movies that should ALWAYS be seen in their original uncut formats, because cutting them up takes so much away from the powerful impact of the original uncut version:
MOVIES THAT MUST BE SEEN UNCUT
The Breakfast Club
Blazing Saddles
Midnight Cowboy
And Justice For All
Midnight Express
One Flew Over The Cukoo's Nest
Jack

Brian 12-29-2003, 05:13 PM I'd like to see "Batman Forever" uncut. The original uncut version was almost 2 and a half hours long.
I am Him 12-29-2003, 05:37 PM Harlem Knights or any Eddie Murphy movie for that matter
The Blues Brothers
vashti1999 12-29-2003, 06:02 PM If you check out the dvd for Scarface, one of the bonus features is a comparison between the theatrical version and one edited for television. It really shows the differences between the two. The tv version loses alot of the impact, I think, of the theatrical version. A movie like that, you expect it to have a certain level of grittiness. Watching movies edited like that becomes a distraction for me anyway, because as I'm watching a movie, I'm conscious of the fact that a character isn't saying "you lousy bum", he's saying "you f**king ***hole". For me, it's better to watch a movie unedited because there's no question of naturalness of the dialogue.

Coming to America(Samuel L.Jackson calling Eddie Murphy a "freakin'airhead"?!! C'mon, we're not idiots.)
Boogie Nights
Sixteen Candles gets dubbed over pretty bad. I'd rather watch my videotape.
Fast Times at Ridgemont High

As a Sci Fi fan, I get really ticked off when they chop up movies to fit into a two hour timeslot.
One of my faves is the 1980 classic "Flash Gordon," yet some stations cut out multiple scenes from the film.
Major chunks of the story are missing!
Also AMC shows a really jumbled up version of "Halloween 2."
Sure, they had to cut out some scenes with major gore and nudity, but they show a version that is completely different from the original version.
Also, leave the Star Wars movies alone. I'm serious.
;)
Penny Lane 12-30-2003, 10:52 AM Close Encounters Of The Third Kind
Jaws
Dirty Dancing
I have seen all of these movies so butchered that it is obscene! If I want to watch them I just get out my videos!:D

Yeah, I was watching High Fidelity and Jack Black walked in and he was SUPPOSED to say, "Holy sh*t, what the f*ck is that?" but no, he says, "Holy shoot, what the frog is that?".
Anyways, Die Hard is my number one DO NOT EDIT movie.

Yeah, that was pretty stupid.
Why don't they just bleep words out? Bleeps are funny!

Are these movies the horrible TBS editing you guys are talking about? Boy, It must be tough subscribing to cable TV without CITY-TV or TQS on it. ;)
Every movie, ever. Censorship is wrong.

It was on Comedy Central, which does a more craperific job than TBS. But FX is the worst, IMO. And on the other hand, the only one that does a good job is USA. They don't add in stupid stuff, they just blank it out.
"Yippie-kye-ay, Mister Falcon!" -- John McClane in the TV version of "Die Hard"
"Yippie-kye-ay, melon farmer!" -- John McClane in the TV version of "Die Hard 2"
"Yippie-kye-ay, my friend!" -- John McClane in the TV version of "Die Hard With A Vengeance"
"Pardon my French, but Cameron is so tight that if you stuck a lump of coal in his fist, in two weeks you'd have a diamond." -- Ferris Bueller in the TV version of "Ferris Bueller's Day Off."
"Pardon my French, but you're an aardvark! AARDVARK!" -- Cameron Frye in the TV version of "Ferris Bueller's Day Off"
"Give me the keys, you fairy godmother!" -- Todd Hockney in the TV version of "The Usual Suspects"
dandelion wine 01-02-2004, 01:42 AM Jaws
Sixteen Candles
The Breakfast Club
Fast Times at Ridgemont High
Saturday Night Fever
Halloween 2 <-- quit messing with this movie!!
These are the movies I thought of right away, but I agree with AKA when it comes to censorship.

Love Die Hard. :biglove: And Bruce...
Anyway, my #1 DO NOT EDIT movie is My Cousin Vinny. That movie is SOOOO funny, even without the cursing, but all the language really makes it.

SBTB Geek 01-11-2004, 05:22 AM I should be against the law to allow VH1 and Spike to ever air "Showgirls" again. They totally butchered the movie into something that it's completely opposite of.
The way they cover nudity, and change the dialogue is terrible.

It should be against the law for anyone to show "Showgirls" in any form ever again. Softcore erotica shouldn't aim to have a plot.

What do you mean? The plots are very complex in all porn movies. That pizza delivery guy plot is Oscar worthy as is the nurse and doctor storylines.
....and those musical scores.....wow!
From what I've heard anyway. ;)

[Doorbell rings. Semi-attractive busty woman in bathrobe answers door.]
Guy with mullet and mustache: Hi. Did somebody order a pizza?
Busty woman: I did, but I'm afraid I don't have any cash and I've run out of checks. Can you take credit?
Mullet: Sorry.
Busty: There must be some way I can repay you.
Mullet: Well, I don't want this pizza to go cold. It's so steamy right now.
[Cue synthesizer music]
Busty: And I really like things that are steamy. And I love spicy meat.
[Enter a naked Elizabeth Berkley from stage left]
Elizabeth: I want to be a dancer! I'm so excited! I'm so excited! I'm so... scared.
Oscar calliber, I tell you.

Zebra 3 04-04-2005, 12:10 AM Every movie, ever. Censorship is wrong.I totally agree. I never watch censored movies - never!
Nighthawk76 04-04-2005, 02:33 PM A couple that come to mind are...
Taxi Driver (1976)
Saturday Night Fever (1977)
Dressed To Kill (1980)
Scarface (1983)
Body Double (1984)
Goodfellas (1990)
Casino (1995)
These are all films that are always butchered when they are edited for television. For example, Saturday Night Fever becomes almost a totally different movie when it is cut apart for television. The music and dancing may still be there, but the grittiness is lost and it takes away from the over all effect of the movie.
