View Full Version : Funniest Moment
barwars 12-21-2003, 07:39 PM What scene or moment or line in The Dick Van Dyke Show made you laugh the hardest??
For me.... it would have to be the Christmas episode.... when Buddy, Sally, Laura, and Mel are singing the song about Alan Brady where they just keep repeating his name "Alan Brady, Alan Brady, Alan Brady, Alan Brady"
And then Buddy doesnt say Alan Brady and sings "Buddy Soreil"
I dont think I spelled his last name right.... but IMO that was the funniest thing Ive ever seen on this show. And would have to be my favorite DVDS scene.

Defintely my all-time favorite DVDS moment is in "Where Did I Come From?" That's also Dick's favorite episode, so I guess I have taste! ;) It's when Rob drops the phone down Buddy's pants, and then looks down there and says, "Don't hang up!" As many times as I've seen that episode, I still crack up!

Lolac 12-21-2003, 10:46 PM There are so many, but one of my all time favorite scenes is in "That's My Boy?" when he opens the door and sees Mr. Peters standing there. The look on his face is priceless and I always laugh out loud!
Lolac :stocking:
hank18 12-22-2003, 04:02 AM My favorite funniest moment is in "Never Bathe on Saturday," when Rob is going to break down the bathroom door, and after taking a running start and throwing himself against it and almost breaking himself we hear Laura from the other side ask "Did you hit it yet?"

 I love that one, too! Just reading it here made me laugh out loud!!!

SawgrassSteve 12-22-2003, 08:09 PM Me too, Lolac,
That was indeed a very funny line, Hank.
I also like when, in "My Blonde-Haired Brunette," Rob saw Laura with half a head of blonde hair, he asked her why she was dying her hair blonde, and Millie said, "She's not dying her hair blonde," and Rob said, "I supppose it's turning by itself, then?"
I also like when, in "The Curious Thing About Women," Laura pounces on the package that arrived for Rob, finally opens it, and a boat inflates in the livingroom! No line there, but a real funny scene.
Steve
Petrie Malone 12-22-2003, 10:13 PM I agree with Lolac and Steve; the scene where Laura has the raft blow-up in her face in "The Curious Thing About Women" was one of my favorite moments. (And the part before where she was trying to open the package. Both hilarious moments in that episode!) I also liked the scene from "That's my boy??" when Rob opens the door and finds out the Peters are black. Too many good ones to choose just one!

Lolac 12-22-2003, 10:36 PM This is a great thread. Reading all these posts just makes me laugh! One line that always cracks me up is in "Empress Carlotta's Neclace." Laura and Millie are in the kitchen lamenting the ugly necklace. Laura says, "What am I going to do?" and Millie says, "Wear it to a bad neighborhood. Maybe you'll get held up by a thief with bad taste." I love that line and I always laugh out loud! Also in "October Eve" when Rob tells Laura she's done nothing wrong while leaning on the stove, then when she walks out, he pulls the burners off! I also love the line in "My Mother Can Beat Up My Father" when Laura asks Rob over the phone, "How's your nose?" Rob says his nose is fine and Buddy says, "It looks a little out of joint to me." I love that line also. Steve is right! There are so MANY!

Millie really had fun with that necklace. Remember, "Or we could just put it in the blender and drink it?"

Christina E 12-30-2003, 06:34 PM I'd have to say that my most favorite moment came at the end of one of my favorite episodes. At the end of "Long Nights Journey Into Day", I love the part where Rob goes to step out of bed, and Millie pops up from where she was sleeping on the floor. That never fails to make me laugh even after I've seen it a million times.
I think it's interesting that the things we find the funniest are the things that remind us of ourselves. I know this isn't considered one of the funniest moments, but I find it funny mostly because it's something I would do! I'm a big scardy-cat, and I could see myself doing the same thing Millie did.
Christina :bye:
Lolac 12-30-2003, 06:58 PM Christina, that is also one of my favorite moments!! Millie is a riot!

SawgrassSteve 12-31-2003, 10:14 AM Just saw this one and really laughed hard. In "The Gunslinger" where Rob dreams he's a Sherriff in the old west, he's talking to his deputy (Buddy) about why he decided to become a lawman. "I decided I wanted to once and for all rid the west of everything that's mean, corrupt, and ugly," he said. Buddy replied, "Then you'd better save one o' them bullets for my wife!"
Steve
Lolac 12-31-2003, 10:53 AM LOL, Steve, I just watched that episode, too, on TV Land's Last Things Last. My husband laughed his head off watching that epidode! Lots of good lines!

Lolac 01-29-2004, 12:07 PM I thought of this topic as I was watching my DVDs this morning while folding laundry. I was watching "Somebody Has to Play Cleopatra" and I still laugh at the funniest moments. The first one is the look on Rob's face when Laura is being kissed by Hang Lip Harry. I love the way the camera moves in just as it dawns on him that his wife is kissing another man! The second one comes when Harry's wife hears that his partner's name is Miss Harding and she walks out the door and starts screaming at him to get in the car. Then he peeks in and says,"One of the kids is sick." I love those parts and never fail to laugh out loud, even though I know they are coming. It made doing laundry much more fun!

This is one of my favorite episodes, Lolac. You've pointed out some great moments that also make me laugh every time. I also laugh when watching Jerry's expression as Harry and Millie begin to kiss for the first time. And I crack up as he tells Rob "It ain't that funny!" Then continuing with that scene, I have to laugh as he and Rob are walking toward the kitchen and he tells Millie to drink coffee (and says it again to her thru the blinds).
And of course, when Rob says he'll have to play Marc Anthony after Harry leaves, you know what's coming (Laura's response), but I can't help but laugh out loud.
The ending joke also gets a chuckle out of me when Rob quips, "And I don't think Jerry enjoyed playing Cleopatra either."
B&W "the only other show that even comes close to getting as many out and out laughs from me is The Andy Griffith Show when Barney gets going with something silly" fan
Larry Surrell 01-31-2004, 08:44 PM There are so many bits that crack me up, but here are a few of my favorites:
For years when my sister or I wanted to make each other laugh we would sing the weather song from the Bupkis episode.
Weather weather weather weather weather weather weather weather weather.
One of my other favorites is when Laura is home alone when everyone else goes camping and accidently pulls the cap off of Millie's burglar beeper to write down a phone number.
And, when Laura and Millie are taking a creative writing class, I always laugh when Millie reads her essay about Jerry and gets carried away about how sloppy and lazy he is at home. "He lies on the sofa and he doesn't move..." Histerical!!
Lolac 02-01-2004, 11:44 AM From the episode that was on TV Land today:
" Cheap...chopped...chicken feathers!"

Petrie Malone 02-01-2004, 05:30 PM About a week ago, TV Land showed "Pink Pills and Purple Parents." It was hilarious when Laura was becoming more and more dopey from the pills. I was laughing hysterically when she was under the table looking for her spoon! That episode was some great acting on MTM's part!!

:happyface That is my FAVORITE Episode!
Lolac 02-26-2004, 12:38 PM Another of my favorite lines was in today's TV Land episode "Fifty-two Forty-five or Work." The company is about to go on strike and a worker asks Rob if he cares about human dignity. Rob says, "I'm just a writer. What do I know about human dignity?" That line always cracks me up!
