It's a terrific movie, and Donna Reed is great in it... (Mary Bailey was kinda too good for George, actually, but... ;))

...did absolutely nothing for Donna Reed's theatrical career. The film did very poorly at the box office in 1946 [it wasn't until it was constantly shown on TV did it become a "perennial Christmas favorite"], and Donna had to wait seven years before she was honored with an Academy Award for her performance in "From Here To Eternity" (1953). And even THAT couldn't help her movie standing! She had to wait for television before she became a "success".

I adore this movie, I watch it every year and I thought Donna Reed was great!

Along with the original "Miracle on 34th Street," "It's a Wonderful Life" is one of
my favorite Christmas movies. I watch it every holiday season, too. Great film.
The chemistry between James Stewart and Donna Reed is an example of
inspired casting.

I did not know that Miss Read was in it's Wonder Life and NBC is Running it's A Wonder Life tonight at 7:00 pm on NBC

I think it's my favorite of hers. She was also in "The Caddy" starring Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis, which had to be one of the most popular films that she appearred in, due to the huge success of M&L. :stooges:




But Wonderful Life was her sweetest.

Me, too. I have a VHS of it, so I don't have to wait until Christmas to watch it.

It's a WONDERFUL MOVIE. George and Mary were a great couple, the epitome of SELFLESSNESS and GIVING. How many couples would give away their honeymoon money to save the townspeople from going hungry and losing their life savings?? The world could surely use more George and Mary Baileys. As good as Ms. Reed was in From Here To Eternity, I think this is her definitive film role. I never tire of watching this movie!! :D

IAWL has become a classic. It was definitely her best film.:)
