View Full Version : Led Zeppelin
Gert B. Frobe 12-14-2003, 01:51 AM Led Zeppelin is the greatest rock band ever bar none they are the ones who made it possable for the bands today to be as free and open as they want, and be accpected I feel that your Tool, Deftones, Radiohead, should get down on one knee and kiss the ground that Robert Plant walks on. Those are the facts and heres another one Stairway to Heaven still is the most requested rock song ever to this day. If you disagree keep it to yourself I really dont care. And if your that one guy that liked Prince so much, dont even try it buddy you dont want to step to deezz.
DianeChambers87 12-14-2003, 02:15 AM They along with several other people are responsible for making rock what it is. By other people I mean The beatles, the doors, Pink Floyd, the rolling stones, David Bowie, Queen..etc.

Absolutely.
You can hear a multitude of bands in every one of these classic rock icons. It's actually silly if anyone can claim to not be influenced by them (or other classics not named).
You name a band, I can tell you where the sound came from.

Are you asking where Metallica's sound came from?
How about Black Sabbath.

How about Black Sabbath. And don't forget the New Wave of British Heavy Metal in the late 70's/early 80's: Diamond Head, Saxon, Tygers of Pan Tang, Samson, Motorhead, Iron Maiden, etc. That's where their fast sound comes from.
ABlairican Pie 12-14-2003, 05:05 AM I just bought a new Guitar World special issue on Led Zeppelin. It totally bakes.  :guitar:

Well I'm pretty sure Robert Plant and Jimmy Page still kisses the ground that B.B King and Roy Harper walked on. ;) As they were a big influence to Led Zeppelin's success.
Led Zeppelin is on my top five list of the greatest rock bands of all time. Some of their music, Whole Lotta Love and How Many More Times, for example, are best heard though a pair of headphones.
The Beastie Boys better bow down on one knee to Led Zeppelin for their success :notworthy . Since they used samples from Led Zeppelin on their License To Ill rap album.

Yep. All Very true. It's common knowledge that Zepp "borrowed" tons from old blues masters like Robert Johnson & Willie Dixon. Just that w/ Zeppelin, their true talent shined because they were able to not simply take from the past, but they created something completely new with it. Unlike talented favorites like P. Diddy who're known for never sampling other's work. ;)
Man, I have *got* to get that dvd collection soon!

 I remember them! Of all the Zeppelin imitators that came along in the 80s, they sounded most like em. The singer sounded *exactly* like Plant during his prime. I really liked "Get It On", but was I just hearing things or did those guys actually deny being Zepp influenced?? I thought someone told me that in some interview, they claimed to've never *heard* a Led Zeppelin song! (or something to that effect)
Lol! If that was actually said, then it had to've been a deliberately outrageous statement to get a rise. Kinda like Oasis (yuck) claiming to be "the next Beatles".

Actually, their guitarist Danny Stagg was more of a fan of Jimi Hendrix than Jimmy Page, I read. I think it was because songs like "Get It On" and some others were kinda-sorta structured like Led Zeppelin songs because of their lead singer Lanny Wolf. Stagg said that of course he had heard Led Zeppelin, he thought the claims that Kingdom Come "hadn't heard them" were preposterous. Who hadn't heard of them then?

Oh ok! I *knew* the 'never heard Zeppelin' thing was *way* outrageous! But I remember the hoopla surrounding them centered around that one song. It was because it sounded like Zeppelin '87! All these kids in my high school talked about them. The 2nd album crashed & burned from what I recall. Y'know- I'd love to find the 1st album on cd for kicks though! Is it still in print?
Now Playing on the headphones: outtakes from the Zeppelin III sessions. Inspired by this thread. :)

Sorry. I just had to throw this in. ;) I bought my Fiancé a Russian print of Led Zeppelin II (for an Xmas present) when I was visiting St. Petersburg. I guess these foreign releases are worth quite a bit of :dollar: :dollar: :dollar: !!
Rickenbacker 12-17-2003, 12:30 AM Weird to see the title in Russian! Cool gift. :)
On the satanic/ Zeppelin connection, I'd love to sit & talk to Jimmy Page one on one & ask him straight up to tell about his fascination w/ Alistar Crowley & (black?) magic. Doesn't he own his mansion? He's always been so vague about all that.
Also, from what I read a long time ago, Jimmy Page only explained his "Zoso" symbol to Plant once & only once & said that he'd never repeat it again. True story? And what does it mean??
I bet Page is hiding lots of cool, interesting things that most of us don't know... :)
