Why does Endora have respect for Darrin's wishes to not let anyone of his friends know that they're witches?

Probably because she knows it would have distrastrous consequences for the whole family - not out of any respect or loyalty she feels for him!

In one of the episodes (can't remember which one, but Tabitha is about three in it), either Sam or Endora grants his wish to let everyone know about the witchcraft in his family since he's tired of keeping the secret. (I think it is just in a dream, however.) The government splits up the family for national security reasons when they find out that Sam and Tabitha are witches. (That's all I can remember of this episode.)

I think it was because she knew that was the smartest thing to do. Endora didn't like mortals to begin with (she thought they were greedy and materialistic) & could foresee the problems it would cause if they found out.

Yes, I believe that was supposed to be the reason. Although I've sometimes wondered why the witches, with all of their power, would have been afraid of the mortals on any level. They seem to have had enough power to rule the world if they had wanted to. Ah well, I guess such is a TV show.

I think because the witch community somehow got (and kept) their powers in exchange for the mortal world (at large) NEVER getting the 411. There was one late episode in which Sam tried to show Mrs. Stephens that she was a witch by performing a trick-only to have the trick go flat at the last second. ..then Endora came onto the scene and explained that mortals weren't supposed to know and after Darren asked why he has to, she quipped to Sam 'He doesn't count!'- so I guess ironically enough his marriage to Sam gave Darren some kinda cosmic dispensation!
