View Full Version : Older, or younger than your age indicates?
Brad Russ 11-18-2003, 04:38 PM Are you guys older maturity wise, or younger than your age indicates? For me it's kind of a mixed thing. Some people say I'm naive, and innocent when it comes to things like sex, and relationships, yet on the other hand Iv'e also heard people tell me I'm wise beyond my years. Iv'e had more than one person tell me I'm like a 50 year old trapped in a 22 year olds body. I mostly have older friends, and don't go much for contemporary movies, music, and television etc. that alot of people my age seem to enjoy. I do however enjoy talking to younger people who are beyond their years as well. Anyway, what category do you all fall in. Are you younger, or older than your age says you are?
PZelda 11-18-2003, 04:42 PM I would say older (most of the time). Like you, it's a mixed thing. I am 18 right now, but I like a lot of things that 30-50 year old people like. Except for 8 Simple Rules and Trading Spaces, I'm not into the current TV shows and stuff. Same goes for movies...Last time I was to a movie theater was three years ago, in November 2000. I've acted wise beyond my years for a long time, but I'm not into dating or anything, so I'm lacking in that department, but I could give good advice, since I read so many freakin' magazines. :)
But at the same time, I'm still a kid at heart. I look back fondly at the stuff I grew up with, like DuckTales, Growing Pains, etc. You know, stuff that was popular at the time. :)
Georgia's on my Mind 11-18-2003, 04:53 PM older, even people online think so/
*Pleasant Tomorrow* 11-18-2003, 04:55 PM I'd say it's sort of mixed for me, too. I can be really responsible and mature sometimes, but then I can be a lazy, annoying 5 year old like brat :)As far as TV and other things, I'd say I'm into things most kids my age would like... So yeah, it either depends on my mood or the area. If anything, though, I'd say I'm AT my age level, not above or below it, really.

Everytime I read one of your posts, I'm literally amazed. You are honestly so much like me. You're birthday is three days before mine, The only current show you regularly watch is 8 Simple Rules, same with me, you haven't been to a movie theatre in three years, I haven't been to one for 6, since I saw Titanic. Also you love Back To The Future, like me, you're a nightime person, like me. And you are not much into dating and stuff, which is exactly like me. I think I better do one of those family tree things, because we must be related or something. :D
Ducktales was an awesome show! I wish the Disney channel would start airing that, and Chip & Dale's Rescue Rangers again.
Titania 11-18-2003, 05:47 PM kind of a mix....i've had people say i look about 15 (i just turned 18) and i sometimes do things like go to the park and run around with my friends for laughs or disney movies one night. But I also am into old movies/TV, politics, and take my theater and dance very seriously, so i'd say that i tend to act older in those cases.

OMG. No way!! Yep, we must be somehow related.
The last movie I saw was "The Grinch That Stole Christmas". I didn't see "Titanic" when it was in theaters, but I saw it on video and didn't like it. :-/
I miss DuckTales and Chip 'n Dale! They had that on Disney til 2000 or so, then moved it to Toon Disney. I don't have the money to shell out for a pay channel, so I'm screwed. :crying:
Hollow 11-18-2003, 06:06 PM I act immature when im having fun which is most of the time but otherwise i act my age i guess. ive been told alot that i look 4 or 5 years older than i really am though, partly because im so tall.

I can relate with the age thing. I'm 22, and when I'm clean shaven, people think I'm like 15, or 16. When I'm unshaven though, they say I look 25, or 26. Even when I go out to ride my bike at nightime the police always stop me, and when they ask how old I am and I say 22, they say how old are you really? It's so annoying sitting there for 10 minutes reciting my birthdate to them over and over again just so they can see if I get it wrong.
david&maddie4ever 11-18-2003, 06:18 PM Oh, definitely older. *winkady wink*
I've been on Faith Hill's CMT board for almost a year now, and I just told the guys over there that I'm 13...they didn't believe me!!! It's kinda cool to be considered "mature"!

Yeah, I don't even get basic cable anymore, so I'm royally screwed! All I can watch is crappy talk shows, soap operas, and bad modern television that I wouldn't watch if my life depended on it. Thank goodness for the internet, is all I can say.
Kay Scarpetta 11-18-2003, 06:20 PM People have told me I'm a lot more mature than 14. I mean sure, I had a kid side to me, but don't we all?
MaydayMalonesGirl 11-18-2003, 06:36 PM People have told me that I look and act a lot older than I actually am, but I don't really know. The only reason I look older is because I'm like 5 inches taller than most of the other people in my grade. :o

When I first started posting here, I honestly thought you were in your 30's, or 40's, no joke! To think that you were only 12 at the time amazes me beyond words!

Mmmhmm...same with me
I Dream of Jeannie 11-19-2003, 12:04 AM Almost all my Angel friends thought I was in my MID-20's due to my writing. Imagine their shock when I told them I was only 15. LOL
fr00ti 11-19-2003, 12:21 AM People have always said that I act mature for my age. I guess its because I haven't been around as many kids as adults growing up. When you're an only child you're around alot of adults all the time, I guess you pick up some of their traits, and you learn to deal with it. But It's nice to be able to be around people your own age that you can relate to better though. - Thats just my personal experience.
I don't look 17, (people say I look younger) and I guess I don't act my age either but I apparently act older. Bah, I dont know.
dandelion wine 11-19-2003, 12:33 AM I'm 29 but like Karly said about having that kid side to us all, that's me. I just like to have fun. And even though I look younger than my years, most people always comment on the fact that I have an old, wise soul.

When I first started reading your posts, I thought you were much older! Never would've guessed that you were 14.
AnaheimPMWitch 11-19-2003, 02:15 AM i'd say Younger I'm 31 but people usually think I'm younger then that cause I look young and have the time i act young to
Lady T 11-19-2003, 02:45 AM I am a young 28 year old; I love to act silly, dress like a teen-ager, play video games, etc...

Ditto to all that. I mean :p I'm a freakin 24 year old who's never really had a boyfriend. And I'm much more into older stuff from the 60s and 70s than the stuff now.
But I'm more...how do I put this...worldly? I mean like, I had these friends who hadn't been outside the state and were afraid to drive out of town. And I'm like, "How lame are you?" And I pay attention to a lot of the stuff my folks talk about, you know, real-world crap.
And I can get goofy and act like a 5 year old. :D

I can relate to that. Iv'e never had a girlfriend either. Infact, Iv'e never even kissed a girl. :( Iv'e been asked out a few times, and have had quite a few girls who have had crushe's on me, but I guess I was just never ready for all that stuff back then. I'm still not ready for relationships. Right now I'm trying to make God my number 1 focus. Once I get to the place I want to be Spiritually, hopefully then God will send a nice woman into my life.:)
EricIdlefan 11-19-2003, 12:44 PM I am 29 and will turn thirty next year on October 3rd but people say I look in-between 15-22.

I've kissed a boy before, but that was years ago. I haven't had a boyfriend since my 8th grade year (that was 1998-99), and I'm just not interested in dating now. :p Maybe when I'm older and am able to support myself financially. :)
(God, I sound old, don't I? )
Penny Lane 11-19-2003, 04:21 PM I got married at 18 and my husband was 25. He always said that he married an older woman because I was so mature for that age. I had a baby at 19 and was able to care for her with not many problems. I have 5 younger brothers and sisters whom I helped to take care of so I think I was well prepared to cope!:D
Well, that was about 100 years ago and I think that I am now more childish(in a good way) than I was then!:happyface

Pitooey 11-20-2003, 10:36 PM For me I act younger than my age. I'm probably the oldest one at SO. Another thing is that I dress younger. I love jeans and tees so when people see me dressed like that they automatically assume I'm younger.
I could relate to the younger people only because I listen to their music and I have young children of my own. :)

EricIdlefan 11-22-2003, 07:09 PM It depends on how you dress, fix your hair, and make-up that makes you look older or younger than your age!!

Dude111 10-04-2022, 07:05 PM Younger,I would say im mentally about 10 :)
Yong Fang 10-19-2022, 11:41 AM I am 55 and have no white hair whatsoever. I am blonde which might be part of it. If I could legally or otherwise, I would shrink my age ten years to 45. I dont even think I look 45.
I see people on the news who are my age or a year or two younger and cannot believe it. "I am older than him/her?" No way! It isnt really denial, although it could be, but just that I cannot believe I am that old.
Penny Lane 10-19-2022, 12:17 PM I am 72 but people think I am much younger. I have no wrinkles thanks to good genes. My Mom always looked young until she reached her 90's. She is 93 now and her mind is slipping (short term memory loss) and she has aged quite a bit but she doesn't look her age. I color my hair a medium blonde but I am considering quitting that and to go au natural. There is a lot of gray under there! We all must face aging. Some of us closer than others. But that's life! I am just hoping that I can remain healthy for a few years. After what happened suddenly to Dave we just can't be too sure. I worry for my 2 kids . Dementia runs in Dave's family. First his mother and then both he and his brother had it. I was 51 when I first joined the boards. Most members were much much younger.
