ILT80s :) ILT80s strikes back is on again now - so lets do that first !!!
we can start with the stuf they are talkin about.... i just watched 87, 88, 89 last night.... WOW
i dont remember the Fat Boyz being THAT BIG
i was in Calgary right before the 88 Olymics, when the Jamaican Bobsled team made their debut - it was such a touching story - everyone wanted them to win, and every time they interviewed them you couldn't help but fall in love with those guys; they really thought that they COULD win!!!
i also remember "eddie the eagle" some independent guy who was trying to get into the ski-jump event, but he was a complete amateur, with no support from any country, and appearently, NO TALENT as a ski-jumper
Moonlight Lady 11-22-2003, 05:52 PM Yeah, the 80's are to start with.
MTV, I remember the first time I watched that channel. My friends and I were in the livingroom trying to something on TV and we found it. We were hooked.
I can remember us actually going outside.
Yeah, we got on our bikes and rode to the corner store
to replenish our junkfood supply.
Fortunately, we made back in time to watch Huey Lewis and the News.
Cactus Jack 11-22-2003, 05:58 PM Cool!!!!:D
I thin its lookin like 80s first :D, but one thing how will us who didnt grow up in the 80s, or were little kids and toddlers etc in the late 80s make comments? lIke me, for instance LOL
Moonlight Lady 11-22-2003, 06:02 PM Uh...Make stuff up...get creative.

Like ummm
"Ferris Bueller's Day Off is a great movie, Ive seen it over 25 times, still havent seen Derris Oueller's Fay Boff ";)
LOL
robyrob 11-23-2003, 09:26 AM I never could understand the big deal with Ferris Bueller's day off - i mean everyone was talking about it, i recently watched it as part of a marathon weekend where one channel showed it back-to-back for 24 hours; i mean I thought it was a pretty good movie, but why'd everyone go nutso?
And of course they made a tv series out of it - :thumbs down:

I remember skipping school so I could stay home to watch the opening video :)
and i was a NERD
when i listen to Huey Lewis now, i just dont understand how it got so big; it seemed so cool back then, now i notice that some of the songs are kinda... well... Lewpy.
...remember when Huey sued Ray Parker over the Ghostbusters' theme song?

Yeah, it's weird, I worked out a plan with my friend Jennifer.
anytime, Huey Lewis came on, I'd call her and she came running over. We were crazy for him for awhile back then.
Looking back on it, I don't get it. :barf:
Yeah, I think I remember that. Huey's a dork.
My niece used to think the the band name was "Huey Lewis on the News."

It was an okay movie. I didn't get why people went crazy for it either. They never shoulda made a tv show out of it.
[-Kelsey-] 11-29-2003, 04:22 PM Best thing about the 80's is Back To The Future:D
Moonlight Lady 11-29-2003, 07:17 PM Rockwell's "Somebody's Watching Me" I loved that video and the song. I had no idea at the time that Michael Jackson was singing backup. I kinda found that odd though. Here he is this big deal in 84 and he's singing backup for a new guy.
This song was kickin...Just makes me wanna moonwalk.

I never knew about that but then I was never a Michael fan - I was actually quite upset when Eddie Van Halen played on his album, I think it was the one with "Beat It" on it - man was that ridiculous - how could Weird Al ] NOT make fun of that guy !!!!
Which makes me think of the old classic Weird Al - i used to have like 3 of his early records, I know one of them was Weird Al in 3-D !!!! (wasn't everything 3-D back then for some reason or other?

I know!!!!! Werid Al was great at making fun of him. my fav song by Weird Al is actually his parody of Jackosn's "Bad", "Fat" I was watching the Bad segment on ILT80s Stirkes Back 1987 on Thanksgiving, and immediately htought o it, I like micheal thouygh the 80s micheal, not the 00s Micheal

the only Michael I liked was the original one from the Jackson 5 back in the 70's - now that was some groovy tunes!!

I loved 70's Michael the best. Eighties Michael started getting really messed up after Thriller.
Weird Al..I loved "I lost on Jeopardy" now that was funny.
Oh Ricky was alright and I can relate to "Another One Rides The Bus." I think that was a weird Al song, anyway, I can't remember the actual date, but I grew tired of him eventually.

"The Day After" - stupid, stupid movie. Actually anything remotely nuclear-winter, end of the cold war, Arms Race-nouveau fear-mongering was pretty stupid.
Risky Business - I'm not a fan of Tom Cruise; as far as I can tell this is the same character he plays in every movie he does - acting! sheer brilliance
Breakdancing - yes. I can honestly say that I broke a few things.
McNuggets - obviously a success as they are still around today, unlike such other ventures as "McPizza", "McRib", and "McTripe"
- coincidentaly, we always thought that they were the magical cure for hangovers when combined with flat coke (also from Mickey-D's)
Donkey Kong - best game ever. shaddup.
Fraggle Rock - pure genius - Jim Henson's post-Muppet reefer madness freakout. They shoulda had Stadtler and Waldorf gueststar though, it woulda lasted longer.
V - the mini-series - that show was amazing, I tried to get into it when they replayed it on Sci-Fi, but I missed 95% of it. Everyone was watching that show, it had these special effects that were so ..... fake. Nightmare on Elm Street's Robert Englund starred in it too. I think it killed his career for awhile, it iwas the main reason he agreed to go back to being Freddie after complaining that he didnt wanna be typecast.
robyrob 11-30-2003, 08:59 PM 1984
Karate Kid - stupid movie. but it had Arnold in it, so that was cool. How the heck was Ralph Macchio a teen idol anyways? wasnt he like 36 when he made this movie, he was just short man - Pat Morita was the REAL teen idol
Beverly Hills Cop- this was the best movie I can remember from that era - as long as you dont think about the Pointer Sisters
- Bronson Pinchot was great, but Balki and the Perfect Stranger was too much man; just take yer goat and get out.
Van Halen- was huge then , although at the time I did correctly predict that it would be their last album . Quiet Riot's Cum on Feel the Noise was really big too, I think around the same time.
Menudo- oh sweet Lord no. I remember the NBC (?) saturday morning cartoons being interspersed with Menudo "special" performances, such as "I'm very Hungry" - yeah i wasn't after watching that
Oh Cherie - Steve Perry. Have you ever seen the video for this? Pretty girl. Steve Perry. WHY?
Tom Hanks - I dont remember how long after Bosom Buddies Splash was, but it was great - watch for John Candy - and Bachelor Party will always be one of my fav movies: "We'll have a bachelor party - with chicks, guns, firetrucks and drugs!!!"
Ed Grimley - I grew up watching SCTV, and I watched SNL religiously - Ed Grimley where are you, don'tcha know?
.... as I was watching I came to the revelation that Pink wants to be Billy Idol, and Jenna Von Oy is still cool
