It was also on VH1 at 11:00am Tuesday. I hate to watch the ending because the music is so sad and when Joyce DeWitt says her final piece at the end she looks like she is about to cry!!:(

I really like her speech on laughter being the center of the earth!

You know....I always thought that the conflict between John/Joyce and Suzanne must have been because both sides were at fault. After watching the movie, Suzanne is the only one to blame. She ruined her career and led the show to thier downfall. She was definitely not the "star" of the show. To be quite honest, I always liked to watch the show because of Janet and Jack. She just added a funny piece. Poor Joyce.....she really got the shaft and went through some hell. I feel for her, but realize that she is a better person because of the adversity.

If most of that was true, does that mean Audra Lindley wore a wig to play Mrs.Roper?

Yes she did!! Audra was a natural blonde and wore the red curly wig as Mrs. Roper.

oh i know what you mean. in the movie it also showed that the girl who played vicki was in joyce's dressing room. what i dont get is why they couldnt give her someone elses dressig room. what was so special about joyce's? the way it ended was sooooo sad. it makes me get all teary. especially when they come out to say goodbye to the audience for the last time.:( i think that john should have told her. or at least someone should have.

i love this movie! Joyce always did get taken advantage of, if u think about it. I mean Suzanne was mean to everyone and ruined her own career as well. john was going to a spinoff sitcom and Joyce didn't even know about it until she found out for herself. my favorite part of the movie is at the end when they come out to wave to the audience and John holds out his hand to joyce then he says "I love you Joyce." that's so sad and the music is really sad to. it always makes me cry.

Yeah, the part that always gets to me is when the music is still playing at the end and it fades into Joyce DeWitt talking about laughter being the center of the universe and then she said how they were all the luckiest people in Hollywood and then she nods and looks like she is about to cry and then it fades away. I began to cry because I thought about John Ritter and the song just killed me!!

BTW, what is the name of that song and who sang it??

I do not know what the song was or who sings it, but I liked it too. My favorite part is the end when Janet takes Jack's hand and then they look into each other's eyes. He says "I love you Joyce!" That is so awesome.

I have two questions: I wonder if Joyce and Jonathon (did you notice that she called him Jonathon.....how cute is that) ever had a thing for one another behind the scenes. I mean.....I wonder if anything ever happened between them? I know John was married at the time, so probably not. They are both really "good" people. I bet Joyce was just heartbroken when John passed away. :-(

Second question is ......Did the producers ever ponder the idea of putting Jack and Janet together? I know the audience wanted them together! I wonder if Joyce and John ever thought that the producers should put them together?

Question 1: IMO, I think that Joyce did like him. She always express such an emotion towards him on interviews and stuff like that and I don't know, I just think that she did like him!

Question2: I remember in the THS, one of the producers said that the reason TAC, didn't work was b/c America wanted to see Jack and Janet together, and since it didn't happen TAC didn't work. and John said that he didn't think it was a good idea, since in order for the show to work they needes parents in law that wouldn't like Jack, and since Jack already meet Janet's parents in season 5, he thought it won't work!

Question 1: Maybe John and Joyce did have a thing for eachother but chose not to show it or give in to their feelings and chose to look at eatchother as brother/sister because of the media and his marriage and all that. Hey, you never know!! But that's what I think!!

Question 2: In the Three's Company book, Joyce said that she didn't know why they didn't choose Janet to end up with Jack. She said in her own words she would've loved for that to happen but I guess the producers wanted an unexpected a turn around into Three's A Crowd!!

The problem with this is that we the fans were never given a real reason to care about Vicky, especially at the expense of seeing Joyce/Janet and Priscilla/Terri (and Don/Ralph) anymore. To me that what was so hard. Vicky was a constant reminder of why we were not seeing Janet and co. Like it or not, John may have been the focus of the show, but even Suzanne says that Joyce was carrying the show as well, and we the audience cared just as much about her as we did John. But the producers thought she was expendable. Boy, were they ever taught a lesson.

One thought occurred to me was that if they had decided to go with Jack & Janet as the couple, it still could have worked. Instead of the J&J living in an apartment with her parents, it could have been a favorite uncle of Janet's that was way over-protective, or perhaps it could have been Jack's parents who didn't approve of her (I don't recall Janet ever meeting Jack's parents, but I could be wrong). But having that type of shift in focus would have made Joyce the focus, or at least an equal focus, and the producers were too bullheaded to ever consider such a thing...

It's too bad. It would have made for a hysterical show, and who knows, maybe if it had run for another 5 to 10 years, we might have seen Suzanne pop up as well if her reconciliation with John had occurred earlier.

What could have been...

I completely agree.

This is my idea for the ending. Remember the show when Janet shows Jack her engagement ring and then Janet begins to have second thoughts cuz she doesn't want to move out?? Well, the producers and writers should have had Jack, at that moment, express his true feelings for Janet. Then Janet could have said, well I have felt those feelings too, but I have just been shoving them under the rug. She thought that Jack didn't feel the same way. Then they can hug and kiss....blah blah blah. But then she must tell Phillip what she has decided. Then you can get Furley and the gang to react to this.......it would be hilarious. The show could have probably gone on for another couple of years. Instead, they decided to take everyone off the show and focus on Jack and Vicky.

Like you said in your post, what a big mistake. The show only lasted for one year.......cuz who wanted to watch it when none of 3's CO. were even on it. Were they stupid or what???

It just makes me mad!

Do you remember Three’s Company?

The sitcom was a big hit when it aired in the 70s and 80s and it still gets a lot of play in syndication today. Based on a British sitcom (and you would really be surprised to how closely the first season followed the original series), Three’s Company starred John Ritter as Jack Tripper, an aspiring chef who moved in with two single women, Janet (Joyce DeWitt) and Chrissy (Suzanne Somers). Because their impotent landlord (Norman Fell) didn’t want people of the opposite sex living with each other unless they were married, Jack pretended to be gay. Every episode centered around a misunderstanding, though it was Suzanne Somers’s performance as the perpetually bouncy and braless Chrissy Snow that made the show a hit. The show fell apart when Somers asked for more money, Ritter and DeWitt got angry with her, and the studio bosses lied to everyone. Today, the show is legendary as an example of how backstage tension can end even a popular series.

Behind The Camera: The Unauthorized Story of Three’s Company (https://www.google.com/search?q=Behind+the+Camera:+The+Unauthorized+Story+of+Three%E2%80%99s+Company&tbm=bks&tbs=bkt:s&source=newspapers) attempts to dramatize the success and eventual downfall of Three’s Company. Joyce DeWitt appears at the beginning and the end to talk about how important she thinks the show was. In the movie, she is played by Melanie Paxson. John Ritter is played by a lookalike actor named Bret Anthony while an actress named Jud Taylor plays Somers. Brian Dennehy plays ABC president Fred Silverman and other executives are played by Daniel Roebuck, Wallace Langham, Gary Hudson, and Christopher Shyer. The movie recreates all of the drama that went on during Three’s Company without offering much insight or really anything new to the story. Even though the movie was co-produced and hosted by Joyce DeWitt, Suzanne Somers is really the only sympathetic character in the movie. DeWitt comes across as being jealous while Anthony plays John Ritter as being a bland nonentity who chooses his own success over being honest with his costars. The network executives are more interesting, just because watching them provides a glimpse into how real producers and showrunners picture themselves. They just wanted to make a good show about a sex addict pretending to be gay so he could live with two attractive, single women but the agents and the network presidents just keep getting in the way! Won’t someone please think of the mid-level network executives?

Bland though this recreation was, it was enough of a rating hits that NBC went on to produce several more Behind The Camera films. Three’s Company was only the beginning.

The Wikipedia article (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Behind_the_Camera:_The_Unauthorized_Story_of_Three%27s_Company) lists tons of incorrect things. So many that you wonder how far they went into researching for this movie.
