View Full Version : Is it acceptable for guys to cry??
peter may 11-10-2003, 05:56 AM I don't think it is really;)
There was this guy at work the other night and he started crying a bit because he thought he lost his job.
What do u guys think?
Mijada 11-10-2003, 06:52 AM I don't think that's funny to laugh about that. Maybe he has a family to take care of and he was concerned about them. Anyway I think it's OK for guys to cry. It shows they have a heart.
There's nothing wrong with a guy crying, Peter. We're brought up to believe that guys can't cry, but women can. Why the double standard? Crying is a perfectly natural way to express one's feelings, including the displeasure and stress that is brought on upon the loss of a job.
Nanny Fine 11-10-2003, 09:50 AM I'm a sucker for a guy who can cry. Shows they have some emotion behind the whole "I'm a big tough guy" exterior.
JoJoJoJoJoJoJoJoJo 11-10-2003, 10:10 AM Peter, that man probably had a family at home depending on that paycheck to come in each week... maybe he wasn't crying for himself, but for his family. Think about that one.
No, there is nothing wrong with a guy crying.
Penny Lane 11-10-2003, 10:13 AM Crying is a great release! A very human thing to do! The last I heard, guys are human too!:p
Mysty Eyes 11-10-2003, 11:09 AM Of course it is okay for men to cry. Why shouldn't they? It's not a sign of weakness, you know. In fact, in my opinion, when a man allows himself to cry I actually see it as a strong sign of his healthy self-esteem. He is comfortable with his emotions.
Now, if you are talking about "poor, pitiful me" type of pouting/bawling, where the person is feeling sorry for themselves over something trivial, or making much too much of something... Well, that is not attractive... for either men or women.
¤I Love Clay Aiken¤ 11-10-2003, 12:31 PM I dont care who cries. I, myself, have personal issues with crying and dont like to. When I want to cry, I tell myself I should just let it all out and release it, but when I do cry I tell myself only weak people cry and that its not worth it. I dont cry in public either... I think it was that whole thing in HS when Id see lil 14 year olds bawling in the hallway because their 3 week old boyfriend dumped them.
LILFACE23 11-10-2003, 12:53 PM I most definitely think it's okay for a man to cry. They have all the same emotions as women so why shouldn't they show their true feelings as we do?!
I agree with everyone else on this one...this guy probably has a family to support. I wouldn't come down on him for being upset and most likely scared about not having an income. I, on the other hand, would help him as much as I could, even if it was just to be there for him as a friend to talk to.
Until you're in his shoes, you shouldn't judge.

It's not showing weakness, it's shows integrity that you're not afraid to be who you are and show it. It's absolutely nothing to be ashamed of.

Yeah, I know its not, but I just dont like to for some reason. Im telling ya I have issues! My friends and such say I have a blackheart, but thats just because I dont sympathize for people the majority everyone else does.

I didn't even cry when my own cat died. It's not that I didn't want to, I just couldn't for some reason.
Ewan's My Man 11-10-2003, 03:50 PM I think it's fine for guys to cry. Over the weekend in my cousin's wedding, my now cousin-in-law had a mother-son dance, and he was crying, and believe me, it was the sweetest thing I've ever seen.

I'm the same way lol. I barely ever cry unless there's some big fight or something in the family, that stuff scares me...or maybe something really big that's affected me. There's times when I want to and I'm practically forcing myself to but I just cant.
Anyway, who cares if guys cry? Why should the fact that they're a guy mean they can't express they're emotions? Crying's just a way of letting what you feel out, not a sign of being a puny, wimp.
KerriBerri687 11-10-2003, 05:00 PM of course its acceptable for guys to cry.
i mean, its the same with girls...if its like...o no my hair looks bad let me cry *b/c believe me i know some guys who wud cry over that* than ok thats really stupid but if theres a legitimate reason i dont see why guys cant cry.
i know in my school, the "tough guys" call a guy gay if he cries:rolleyes: ..but theyre just immature
Microprosa 11-10-2003, 05:04 PM Sure it's acceptable.
DarwinEx 11-10-2003, 05:11 PM Its ok to cry if someone dies, or your team loses. Losing a job, or dancing with your mother are not cry-worthy for a straight-up manly man in my opinion.
dawsongirl 11-10-2003, 07:35 PM Guys are human...humans cry...guys cry. Get rid of the damn macho attitudes.

It's that primitive thought that guys are supposed to be the strong ones so they can't cry...I think it's funny
Georgia's on my Mind 11-10-2003, 07:54 PM depends on the reason why...
if it's like ".... oh my god, i broke my nail....i need to go drown in my tears..." then no.
Rhiannon 11-10-2003, 09:13 PM Over certain things it is perfectly acceptable.
Crimson and Clover 11-10-2003, 11:07 PM of course, guys have feelings too.

fr00ti 11-10-2003, 11:17 PM If a guy cries, perhaps it means he's not a heartless jerk like most guys are. Everyone should be able to cry without being made fun of. Its a human reaction, for god sake.
Brent88 11-10-2003, 11:45 PM I don't see anything wrong with it... It takes a lot for a man to cry, but, they shouldn't be ashamed to do it.

He just got married...it was emotional...and the whole thing was really sweet.
Besides, who says all guys haveta be manly-man
I personally find crying over a team losing worse then crying when you're dancing with your mom at your wedding. I mean, I've NEVER cried over my team losing...and I'm a chick...
dandelion wine 11-11-2003, 12:34 AM I think it's more than ok for a man to cry. We're human, not robots. That's one of those double standards that I really hate. "Oh gosh, I'd cry and all, but uhh.. I'm a guy." That's bologna. I've always seen it as a sign of strength, not weakness.
The guy who lost his job? I agree that he probably did have a family to think of, and that it's not anything we should make fun of.

JMO.....but crying over a team losing is stupid. I see all these girl baskball players (high schoolers mostly) that cry when they lose a game. omg.
EricIdlefan 11-11-2003, 05:38 AM I love to see men cry because that tells me that they care, are sensitive, and show compassion!!
peter may 11-11-2003, 06:40 AM i understand what your all saying but it is only a stupid bartender job and he is 21 like me and he has no family to support.
You cant take life so seriously!:)

He might be suffering from depression which can be very serious. Try not to be too hard on him!:(
MandieR1980 11-11-2003, 02:54 PM Men who cry show they have a heart and are more compassionate. That's the type of man I'd like to be with.

I agree. Now, am I disappointed? Yes. Am I gonna cry over it? Hell no.

I dont cry....ever....in public like at school even if something is really bothering me.......i dont even cry that much when im at my house alone in my room or sumthin like that.....thats who I am and I dont need to cry about stuff...i dunno y but i just dont cry....thats not really a way I deal with things....some ppl cry...others get pissed off or deal with their problems in some other way. But if you cry when a team loses or you sucked at whatever it wuz that u were doing...like u missed a goal or a basket..then thats a little overboard. I hate when girls cry in situations like that...im a girl and i play sports and i have my days and my team can lose but i dont cry about. I just get over it.
IMO it is perfectly acceptable for a guy to cry...there is nothing wrong with showing emotion and that might just be how that particular guy dealt with the stress of thinking that he was going to lose his job....it isnt at easy for ppl to find jobs as you may think it is. Peter...that job may not mean nething to u but to this other guy it might mean a whole hell of a lot.
MonarC 11-11-2003, 04:22 PM If a guy doesn't cry ever, then there is something wrong with him.
Crying is a human emotion that we all have. Now if a guy cries everyday then that is wrong, but if its a ligitamate reason, like death or pain it's just human. :D

Nothing wrong with crying........
Caroline13 12-10-2024, 04:17 PM I wonder IF most have the capacity to cry? It's about the hormones etc that make up our bodies..... Gay ghuys I imagine have a easier time of shedding the tears.
Dude111 12-11-2024, 01:53 AM Yea crying often helps get the sadness/pain out........
TheLittleFaerie 12-11-2024, 06:29 AM Crying is a natural, biological response, it's not a GENDERED thing. It's actually harmful to your health mentally, psychologically and physically to hold in your emotions.
That is the definition of Toxic Masculinity
KurtfromPitts 12-18-2024, 12:08 PM I cry sometimes and am not ashamed to admit it.
Dude111 12-18-2024, 01:40 PM Thank you for being honest :)
